Chapter 12 - 12: A walking bomb

After the previous shock. Everyone was in the large yard that they'd been training in for the past few years.

"Huaaa~ I feel a bit sleepy..." Asher yawned.

"Oi! We're not leaving till we're done with this test!"

"Ugh." Asher grunted.

"Just make one fireball spell with mana and you can go to sleep. Shouldn't you be more excited about this?!" Emilia shouted. Her excitement was getting the better of her but she couldn't help it.

"I know, I should be a little more excited but there's this sleepy feeling trying to call me in... Ugh."

"Brilliance of flames, light– What in the world?!"

He didn't finish his incantation and the fireball materialized on top of his palm way thicker than any normal fireball would ever be.

"Asher... You didn't whisper the rest of the incantation did you?" Emilia shivered as she spoke.

"Or you used some sound magic?" Bariel asked too.

"Of course I didn't. I'm as surprised as any of you. I think... It was because I'd already envisioned the spell in my mind, I didn't need the incantation anymore."

"Asher! That's impossible! You've broken 253 magic theories and 222 magic laws with that one sentence!"

"I know, but I have proof here."

As he began to envision the fireball, one dangerous thought popped up in his mind.

'What if I use Essence?'

He used one point of Essence and immediately he had a literal sun floating on top of his palm. It had a surface temperature of 9800° and a core temperature of 18,000,000°! It was burning hotter than the sun of Earth's solar system.

Asher had made the heat to not radiate more than 2 centimeter of the glowing orb of power and he was glad he did. He stopped the spell as the light was blinding to look at and he looked around and his face displayed shock in the next second.

Emilia was on her knees with all the light in her eyes gone, Bariel had collapsed like dead weight with the same light-less eyes. Cashel was still standing but his body toppled over in the next moment.

"Cashel! Mom! Dad!" Asher's thoughts began to race. "What have I done?!"

———

Cashel grunted as he woke up and he had a splitting headache that went as soon as it came.

"What..."

Emilia and Bariel were lying in the same bed as him and Asher was sitting on a chair and he was muttering four words at high speed in repeat like a broken recorder.

"What have I done?! What have I done?!"

"Asher?" Cashel called out. "Asher?!"

Asher snapped out of his daze and he looked up and that's when Cashel noticed the bags under his eyes.

"Hey bro, what happened?" Cashel asked as he got out of the bed.

"Cashel... You can see me right? Ahh, I'm saved!" Asher spoke.

"How long have I– we been asleep?"

"A week."

"For real?!" Another voice entered the conversation. It was Bariel.

"Damn it kids! I missed the party..." He stopped talking as soon as he started because it was something he wasn't meant to say.

"THE WHAT?" A dark heavy voice could be heard this time. It was Emilia. As Bariel and Emilia began to talk, Cashel glanced at Asher. His whole body was shaking, probably in fear and Cashel looked at how skinny he seemed.

"Hey Asher, did you eat at all during the entire week, we were unconscious?"

All the eyes in the room turned tl the shivering figure on the chair and an awkward silence filled the room.

"Wait, we've been unconscious for a week?" Emilia shouted. "I missed the par..."

"THE WHAT?" This time, it was Bariel's turn to get angry.

"Asher, what really happened?" Cashel asked again but Asher didn't reply. "Asher!"

"Ha! I'm sorry! Mom! Dad! Cashel!" Asher knelt on the floor face first. "T-the truth is... I accidentally blinded everyone with that spell of mine... I thought... I thought I'd lose everyone after you guys didn't wake up for days! The doctor said your conditiona were getting worse and... and..."

~Drip~ ~sniff~

"Uh?"

"Asher is..."

"Crying?"

Indeed, he was.

Everyone was stunned, wasn't this the boy who'd fallen from an entire storey and didn't let out a single whimper? He stepped on a nail and he didn't even flinch.

"I can explain this. Ugh. I told you to make these doors larger."

A fat– No, fat was an understatement. A bloated man in a jumpsuit walked into the room and Cashel's face brightened up.

"Dr. Carter! What are you doing here?"

"Well, my moneybags fainted for a whole week, why wouldn't I be there. Imagine the pay for an entire week of treatments!"

"Right..." Cashel's excitement dwindled as soon as it came.

"Back to the topic. Asher here didn't want to go to sleep without you waking up so he took a... dru...d-drug..." Carter ended with a stutter he glanced at Emilia.

The hairs on his body stood up. The crazy woman didn't react! What was she thinking?! He couldn't tell.

"The side effect of the said drug is just a small case of amplified emotions, nothing much. Hehe... Anyways, I'm taking my leave. Send the money to me later. Ciao!"

He ran through the door like his life depended on it without looking back. Even a money loving man like him would choose life before money... or not.

"Asher, you can rest." Bariel tapped Asher's back and immediately, he blacked out.

"What do we do now?" Cashel asked.

"I have somethings to do. Put Asher in his bed and get someone to take care of him. I'll be busy for the next hour or two." Bariel said.

"You?" Cashel looked at his mother.

"I have a doctor to kill."

———

Asher's 'body' was floating in a purple space with his eyes closed. His body had any sized writings across his body, resembling the magic runes that his mother created daily.

His eyes slowly fluttered open and he looked around in confusion.

"Where am I? Cashel! Mother! Father!"

He moved his arms through the purple fog around him and he pinched himself. It was all too realistic to be a dream. Suddenly, he heard an emotionless female voice.

"I welcome Asher Ecrizich, heir to the Ecrizich clan and holder of the @$$+;"!# physique."
