Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 – Dire Situation

Scarface reached for his waist and pulled out a black pistol that was tucked into a black leather holster anchored to his belt.

The sight of the weapon forced the old lady and the Vance brothers to freeze in one place.

They couldn't afford to trigger Scarface into shooting.

"Yo, man! Put the gun away. What the hell? What do you want?" Nate uttered.

Damon froze and remained silent.

He could not move or even utter a single word.

They understood that they were at a disadvantage and all it would take for Scarface to end any of their lives was the simple flexing of his trigger finger… and bang!

Just like that it will all be over.

It wasn't so much that they would risk being killed for nothing.

The old lady was the first one to go down on the floor the minute she heard Nate mention the word "gun".

She did not see it and did not wish to know what was about to happen if the men in black suits decided to use the gun.

"Please, spare me!" she begged in ragged breaths.

"Who are you guys?" Damon asked. "Who sent you?"

Scarface facepalmed and heaved a sigh.

He was disgruntled that he had to repeat the same thing he just finished saying to them.

"If you are going to kill us in cold blood, you might as well just tell because we don't even know what the fuck we did to you guys."

Stutter smiled and Scarface chuckled. Both of them exchanged glances and started laughing.

They found Damon's sudden bravery amusing.

"Oh, my friend," Scarface said, trying to control his laughter so he could talk to Damon.

"You've done nothing. As I said, it's nothing personal. This is just my boss being careful."

He lowered his gun and moved closer to the couch where Damon sat.

Patting the gun gently on his forehead, he said, "You see, he doesn't want a situation where someone comes back in... let's say, in five years... all in the name of avenging their missing sibling or family member from years ago."

'Missing sibling' — these were the two words that Damon picked from everything Scarface had said and still continually rattled.

Damon put the pieces together in his head. It made a little sense now why they would come after him and his brother, Nate.

All his conclusions came down to one thought.

'These men have a hand in Beth's disappearance.'

It was all too convenient that their sister who did not fear even the dead of the night suddenly disappears and only hours later, unknown men are after the lives of her siblings.

"You work for them, don't you?"

Damon revealed the finding of his deduction to Scarface without any fear in his eyes, nor was there even an ounce of doubt in his mind concerning the matter.

"You see, kid. By 'them', I don't know who you refer—"

Damon interrupted him. "NERVE!" he shouted

"You work for the NERVE, don't you? You work for that doctor, don't you?"

"Ohh... I am impressed. You're a smart kid. Your kind is even more troublesome."

Scarface sighed again, raising his black pistol and pointing the muzzle of the silencer to Damon's forehead.

"You see, kid. Being too smart can get you killed. In this case for example, tsk!"

Scarface cocked his gun loudly, with his trigger finger moving slowly and softly over the trigger like he was caressing and preparing it to fire.

"If I was you, kid. I would have kept my mouth shut," he said, making a zipping gesture over his mouth.

"...and kept what I know to myself. Now you have to die."

"Don't do this," Damon pleaded with him.

Scarface clicked his tongue and shook his head in refusal.

However, his attention was instantly stolen away from Damon when Stutter let out a loud groan.

Sparks of electricity sizzled within the room's space.

Scarface had a glimpse of it when he caught sight of a blue flash from the corner of his eyes.

Turning around immediately with his eyes broadened behind his dark glasses, he saw Stutter flying through the door, overwhelmed by an electric power that threw far away.

Scarface's gaping eyes shrunk to normal and narrowed with his mouth widening into a devilish grin, an ugly one that made his face look repugnant.

Scarface lashed in anger from what he had just witnessed and turned his gun away from Damon, now pointing it at Nate.

"Perhaps I should have killed you first, Nathaniel Vance!"
