Lucian could only grit his teeth as he landed right below the giant zombie. There was nothing for them to do. The two of them were doomed to die. Lucian had difficulty moving the slightest muscle, and Ava… didn't seem in her right mind.
Her eyes were hollow and empty. It seemed that whatever had just happened had traumatized her a little. She kept muttering Trevor's name over and over again… It was as if she was slowly losing her mind. It was clear that if she ever survived here, she wouldn't let this go. Her innocent and naive appearance that she had put on since earlier was nowhere to be seen.
All this happened without Lucian even noticing. He was so engrossed in what just happened that he hadn't cared for a single moment about what had happened to Ava. He was injured and could barely stand up by himself. He was only waiting for one thing: for the giant zombie to eat him as a whole.
'That son of a bitch... Right until the very end, huh? Ah. Fuck! I should have killed him at the beginning…'
Lucian could feel his death slowly getting closer as he kept losing blood from the attack he had suffered.
He closed his eyes, accepting his death. He accepted that he had never done anything worth noting in his life; it was sad, but that's how it was. He was disappointed with the choices that he had made, but it wasn't like he could go back in time and change all his decisions.
The Giant Zombie had decided to step on them instead of eating them, as its giant feet were slowly getting closer to them. They would soon make a good human paste for the rest of the zombies to eat.
'If only someone could come and save us…'
Lucian, just like every other human, had this never-ending hope that he would get saved again and again. However, he knew that it wouldn't happen this time. There was no way he would get saved in the middle of this apocalypse. No one would pay attention to him or Ava.
*Swoosh*
'Wind? Why is there wind?'
Lucian felt the wind brush against his hair and face. He didn't know why it happened since his eyes were still closed, but he could only imagine that the Giant Zombie feet had created it.
He waited, and he waited. But nothing happened. He still hadn't felt the slightest thing. The Giant Zombie still hadn't killed him. Curious, Lucian barely opened his eyes and wondered what had happened.
And that's when he saw him.
His savior.
The person who would make Lucian's dream of surviving and reaching the Otherworld come true. A person so strong that Lucian blinked a couple of times to make sure there wasn't a mistake on his status.
'Am I seeing this right?'
Everything was simply perfect about that person. From start to finish, that person was the incarnation of perfection, his blonde hair, green eyes, and that status… Everything was so mesmerizing that Lucian couldn't stop looking at him.
However, that wasn't the end of it, as his savior turned around to face the rest of the zombies. A huge blue wave of energy came out of it and decimated all the zombies it encountered. Lucian couldn't help but admire such strength. He knew that it needed to go under that person's wing.
He needed to enter that man's team. Even if he didn't have one, he still needed to try. The existence that was right in front of Lucian would be able to make Lucian's life much better.
'Just what are those special skills? And why does he have many?'

Lucian glanced at all the titles, and he was shocked. 'He's a real Cultivator?'
Lucian knew very well what a cultivator was from the stories he had written and read. It's a being with superhuman strength and various other skills that are more amazing than the next. Being allied to one would be amazing and make Lucian's task of surviving and reaching the Otherworld much simpler.
'...If I do this right, then… this tutorial… I might actually be able to pull it off…'
However, Lucian knew that he was a Cultivator or at least the person in front of him was possessed by one, which made things a lot more complicated. Lucian could only hope that the personalities of the Cultivator in front of him weren't the same as those that he had written in books.
Because if their personality were the same, then Lucian knew that this Alex Baker, or whoever had taken over him, would act alone. He wouldn't depend on anyone else. From the tendencies written in his Status, it seemed that this man was pretty easy-going and aloof, which would make things simpler if true.
A few moments later, there were not any zombies close to them. So, Lucian thought that the Cultivator would go up to them or something similar to that. However, he didn't even look back. His eyes focused in search of the next group of zombies.
'He doesn't care about us… Is he really ignoring us after saving us? Those tendencies were right, he's uncaring.'
Lucian knew that he was the one who had the first step forward, and that's what he did by standing up with the help of Ava, who was hugging one of his arms tightly. She seemed scared of whatever was happening, and for some reason, she stayed close to Lucian. Maybe it was because of what he had done before, helping her when she was at her weakest point.
"T-Thank you for saving us…" Lucian muttered with difficulty. He wanted to show how feeble he was at the moment.
But it didn't mean much to Alex or whoever possessed him right now as he glanced away. Lucian noticed the lack of effect and knew he needed to continue.
"Can we do something to help you?"
This time, Alex turned toward them for the very first time.
"Oh, I didn't notice you guys. What did you say?" The Cultivator said without a care in the world.
'Man, this is never going to work. This guy just doesn't give an actual shit.'
Lucian thought a little about what he needed to say next. He knew that his time was limited and that he had to find something smart to say, or else he would lose his chance to enter that guy's group forever. Pressed by time, Lucian said the only thing that seemed somewhat smart.
"Can we join your group? W-We just don't want to die…" Lucian muttered as tears started to appear in the corner of his eyes.
Those tears were fake, but who cares? Lucian certainly didn't. Ava, on the other hand, seemed to care the same as there was the same hollowness as earlier within her eyes.
"Sure, you guys can follow me. Just don't slow me down," Alex said, without much emotion, as he slowly walked away toward the next group of zombies.
Lucian formed a smirk. 'Time to appear as nice as possible.'
