Chapter 9 - Sorrowful Maiden

Adam and Crystal remained locked in an embrace. Though now, Crystal had forgotten her lust as Adam revealed her heritage.

"What is… the Ice Soul Maiden? And why am I destined for pain?"

"I know not the true tale of the Sorrowful Maiden. Nor can I ascertain her origins and her mystery. I know my father, but as for her, no one knows. All that I know is that she, too, is despised by Fate and Destiny. Like me, she was deemed too dangerous to exist. And so, ever since she appeared, she would suffer the same end for countless lifetimes. And soon, her memories continued to be passed on. She desired to escape Phatom."

"Is that… possible?"

"My father said so."

"I thought he left?"

"He did. And just when I was about to die, he appeared again. He taught me a way to live. He was a being uninfluenced by such powers. And he helped me. The body you see before you is not even my original body. I tried many ways to escape the will of Phatom. I lived as Lucifer, and that is why, in this life, I bear the name my father gave me. Adam. All this to hide my soul in deception through death. I was reborn in one of the Dragons of Antiquity, where I would wait to be awakened."

"Then… you escaped Fate and Destiny?"

"I do not know… My power is far from my true form. I am weak. Upon awakening, I find myself fighting against those mysterious men who hold the blessings of many legacies and even the great devil, Dagon. But… this could be only a remnant power that chases after me… or it could be chance. Because I met you."

"Because… Phatom wants me dead?"

"Not dead. They want you to suffer. The Sorrowful Maiden attempted many things to escape Phatom. In the end, she dispersed her soul into numerous fragments that were scattered all over the universe. You are born under the fragments of her soul. A soul that bears her sorrow, her pain, and the Fate and Destiny that she will face. Do you understand? This is why you've lived a sorrowful life."

Crystal could not help but reflect on the past pains of her life. She was tossed aside by her family for a fault, not her own. She grew up beautiful, but instead of favor, she brought many troubles to her family and friends.

"A cruel life is given for you. You will always see rays of hope in your life. Was it not the case on your capture? A man of power and fame sought to make his bride and even gave you and your family gifts, enrolling you in a mage academy. But then you were kidnapped. This is the path of your Fate. To always have hope and have it taken from you. This is your Destiny, to weep and weep until your last breath."

Crystal felt a strange, hollow despair. It was as if her stomach vanished in the painful truth set before her.

She could not deny or argue the prophecy that Adam spoke. For this was indeed her life.

"Then… even if I were to survive this… I will still bring tragedy not only to myself but to those around me..."

"Fate and Destiny may bear its fangs again. But do not panic. We have an advantage. Though the scenarios have pitted us to suffer such trials, we have won. I dare not underestimate the power my father used. I believe that, in some manner, I have escaped Fate and Destiny. And now, my soul is in you. Do you know what this means?"

"My soul is now hidden from Phatom!"

"Yes. I had to also make you exhaust your soul and use mine to keep you alive. All to fake your death. But it's not enough. Because unless you hide yourself away forever, you will still be noticed by Fate and Destiny. My pride will not allow such a life. I will rise. My time now is hidden from Fate and Destiny, and I will amass great power so that Fate and Destiny won't be able to keep up with my power!"

A strange heat began to appear.

"Adam… it's too hot…!" Crystal voiced out.

Adam realized that Crystal had no ice energy and withdrew his heat.

"I apologize. It's just that… this life now excites me. I will be greater than those Twins! And the time will come that I will devour them!"

Crystal was amazed at Adam's will and pride. To speak of devouring Gods was inconceivable to her.

"Um…. Adam… What about me?" Crystal dared to ask.

"This is why I have not escaped yet. I already have enough power to move out of this mountain… but if I did, those weapons would not be reached."

"Those weapons? You mean… The weapons of my kidnappers?!"

"There are only three remaining. The orb and the spear are no more. But the Blade of Blue Fire, Twin Swords of Many, and Petroto remain. Of these three, two shall be mine. But as for the Twin Swords of Many, it will suit you. It will help you divide and wield the fire and ice in you and will help you train the magic of your souls. But… I need a lot of energy to do that. Because when I grab these weapons and leave as it might cause instability in this mountain as I would break a lot of ice. So I have to grab it these three instantaneously, and warp out here."

"Warp magic! Amazing! So... Erm... How long until you can move?" Crystal asked. Secretly she hopped for more time with Adam.

"About three days."

Crystal froze.

"Three days?! I'd be dead by then!" Crystal exclaimed. She was already very hungry and thirsty.

"Dead?"

"I'm not a dragon! I need food and water!"

"Are you hungry now?"

"Yes! I'm too weak! My body is exhausted, and I- Mfff….!"

Adam gathered much life energy and fed it directly to Crystal.

Crystal felt the hot rush of energy that fed and quenched her thirst. But since this transfer was done mouth to mouth, another hunger and another thirst exploded.

Adam quickly withdrew her mouth and pinned Crystal back as he pushed his head to the side to evade sight and touch from Crystal. Crystal was panting and trembling.

"There… I've fed you. Now, control yourself. I know it's an unreasonable request. But this is the only way." Adam hid his fearful expression from Crystal.

It was very addictive. The taste of Crystal was very delicious, but Adam knew he could not allow his urges to get the better of him.

Crystal was hugging Adam tightly, still smiling from the kiss. With the ice exhausted, her emotions of loneliness were gone. There was bliss. Even greater than the previous kisses she had.

"Um… I'm still hungry." Crystal tucked her head down his shoulder.

Unseen, Adam smiled. He was very happy of how Crystal yearned for him. But his smile turned into sadness, for he knew this heaven wouldn't last.

"Liar." He answered with a blank tone and ignored Adam.

"I must not... give in to my emotions..." Adam told himself as he firmly secured his position and even prohibited Crystal from moving.
