"What out!!"
When David turned his head, he saw an energy beam hurling right for his exposed head, and when he tried to block it with his arm shield, he couldn't move his hands, something was restricting him, he was surely a gonner, Bethany was also being restricted, David saw his life flash before his eyes, and in the next moment he saw the gallant blackclad back of Nathan, he was so fast all you could see was a shadow, even the leaves would only shake, seconds after they had been passed, far longer than the normal instantaneous reaction, so this is the speed of a lvl 3 physical type, David thought.
"Materialize your helmet immediately, something isn't right here"
Nathan said as he disintegrated the last of the headless Trelfs who were getting ready to shoot at David,
"I can't move, something is restricting my movements!"
David said, vividly trying to move but to no avail, just then, grumpy who was following behind Nathan finally emerged from the dense forest,
"Your just in time, help Dave and Beth activate the armour's neural force barrier."
"Understood"
Nathan was still staring into the distant darkness while he said this, although the armour's helmet covered his face, you could still tell from the tone of his voice and the presence he gave off, he was wary, wary of something in the darkness.
"Why couldn't we move just now"
David asked Nathan, while moving his joints to test his mobility, completely ignoring grumpy, who was passionately scolding in the background.
"I don't know for sure, but the real question is why our rader isn't picking up on that... it "
Nathan retorted in a solemn tone, still brandishing his force gun, his neon green eyes gleaming in the night and pierce through the abyss of darkness,
"Why isn't it picking up on what?"
David inquired, ignorant and confused, he stared into the abyssmal darkness, confidently and curiously scaning from left to right, then right to left until, the abyss stared back at him.
He was startled and broke in cold sweat, instantly freezing in place upon locking eyes with the abyss, his throat seemed to lock and he instinctively knew not to make any sudden movements, they were quite tall individuals but the eyes of the abyss was off considerable height, they were sure they were looking at a behemoth, the abyss continued to stare and they didn't dare to avert their gaze. By now the whole squad was in complete silence and still as statue, finally a soothing voice resounded in the coms
"You guys slowly back up and don't make any sudden movements, it might be blind or asleep"
Nathan said, and in response grumpy complained,
"With his eyes opened!?"
Bethany finally spoke,
"Shut up and do as the Captain says, dwarf!"
"what! I am 186cm,i am of average height I will have you know".
"You are a dwarf, I dare you to talk back"
.....
"Enough guys, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but this is not the time or place"
Nathan scolded.
"we will do as I said, on the count of 3"
"understood"
Nathan reiterated.
"one"
"two"
"Three"
The two behind begin to move back slowly, but David continued to stare, lost in his thoughts,
"Hey! Dave"
"Did you..."
Before Nathan could finish that sentence a deep voice bellowed, it was so deep it seemed to vibrate the surrounding air.
"Oh! So you live"
"You stood, silent and still for so long, I was starting to think my senses had began so fail
me"
"Are you perhaps allies of the foolish bunch in the distances or the slaves of... Alberith"
"It spoke", David said over the coms, with a tone that projected a sense awe, grumpy wanted to make a cheeky remark like,
"we are not deaf, we heard that" or "oh thank you, you have very good hearing" (sarcasm)
But his remarks were stuck in his mouth, he was no longer in the mood to make cheeky retorts, he would rather take them to the grave on base planet.
Nathan who was usually eloquent and collected, was also shocked and short of words, as for Bethany, you couldn't tell, she is always this silent.
"What are the consequences for being of either side"
David asked.
"If you were slaves of Alberith I would have immediately reduced you to ashes, but it appears you are not"
The behemoth answered.
"How do you know we are not slaves of... Alberith?"
David inquired.
The behemoth still imbeded in the darkness answers the inquiry with a question,
"Why are you here?"
David defiantly answers his question with a question of his own,
"How can you speak and understand our speech?"
The behemoth releases a pristine and calm flow of pressure, putting the four under stress, finally Nathan came to his senses and quickly answers,
"We are looking for something of ours, it is required to fight off the....slaves of Alberith"
"Please be lenient!"
The pressure was realesed but followed with a scolding from the behemoth,
"fools! , the more you fight... her, the stronger she gets, you can't win, leave now or be forever buried on this forsaken world"
The four were confused by his reaction, he had the presence of a lvl 6 transendent, lvl 6 transendents were strong enough to colonise a neo industrial age civilization, alone and without battleships, and yet an entity of the same power level is, afraid to mention... her name, who is Alberith, an entity who could make the behemoth so afraid and cautious, she and the emperor who was the superior being, these were the questions that run through their heads.
