Chapter 12: Demons and Madness III

The silence after the explosion was deafening. Aleis was breathing heavily, feeling her energy almost completely drained. The suit, though designed to amplify her abilities, also required a great deal of concentration and mental strength. The light that had shattered the surrounding terrain still flickered in her eyes, and the smell of burnt sulfur and scorched skin permeated the air.
Reed Richards, ever alert, was the first to speak.
"Did we make it?" he asked, his gaze still fixed on the spot where Madelyne had been moments before.
The invisible woman's force field still surrounded them, but even she seemed exhausted from the prolonged effort of keeping them safe. She slowly lowered the shield, though it still kept a thin layer of protection over them. Her face was bathed in sweat, but her eyes remained fixed on the point of impact.
"I don't know," Susan said, her voice hoarse. But whatever it is, it won't last long. Limbo is alive. Don't forget that.
The dust and flames began to clear, revealing a deep crater where the towering figure of Madelyne Pryor once stood. The ground around it continued to twist as if it had a life of its own, but the center of the crater seemed still, like a momentary pause in the chaos of Limbo.
"I see no sign of her," Aleis said, though something inside him told him it wasn't that simple. His experience with enemies of that caliber had taught him that beings like Madelyne Pryor didn't go down so easily.
Suddenly, the ground shook violently beneath his feet. Aleis took a step back, as cracks spread out from the edge of the crater. Then, laughter echoed from the depths, laughter that made the air feel heavier, denser. The laughter rose from the very bowels of Limbo.
—Did you really think that a simple explosion of energy could stop me? —Madelyne's voice resonated from every corner, reverberating like an echo that multiplied until it became deafening—. This is my kingdom. Here I am the law, the creator, the destroyer.
The cracks in the ground expanded, and from the crater emerged a column of dark, twisted and vibrating energy. At the center of that energy, Madelyne's figure began to take shape, emerging from the shadows as if she had been woven from the very essence of Limbo. Her eyes, now completely black, shone with an indescribable fury. Her body radiated dark power, and a layer of evil energy spun around her like an unstoppable vortex.
Aleis felt a chill run down her spine. She was not only facing a sorceress with immense power; she was facing an entity that controlled the very reality of that place.
"I have no more time for games," Madelyne said, her voice calm but laden with menace. "It's time for you to know the true power of Limbo. And when I'm done with you, there will be nothing and no one left on Earth."
With a simple wave of her hand, Madelyne Pryor unleashed a storm of dark energy that tore through space, shattering the protective barrier Susan had put up in an instant. The impact was brutal; Susan screamed in pain as her force field collapsed. Reed tried to leap toward her, but was hit by a blast of energy that sent him flying into a pile of rubble.
The psychic mutant felt his mind begin to distort. The energy vectors around him were completely out of control. For the first time, he realized that Madelyne's power was not only immense, but beyond what any human could comprehend or contain.
The ground beneath his feet tore apart again, and Aleis fell to the ground, unable to keep his balance. He looked around, desperately searching for a way to fight back, but every attempt to control the vectors proved futile. Madelyne had transformed Limbo into an extension of her own will. Everything that happened there was under her absolute control.
"This can't be happening," Aleis muttered to himself, feeling his confidence waver for the first time since he had entered that hell.
Madelyne slowly descended, like a dark goddess, floating in the air as shadows and corrupted energy surrounded her. Her gaze locked on Aleis, and her lips curved into a wicked smile.
"Aleis, Aleis…" she said softly. "Did you really think you could challenge me in my own realm? That you, a simple mutant in a nice suit, could stop the end of everything you know?"
The albino gritted his teeth, his hands shaking as he tried to get back to his feet. He felt the pressure of Madelyne's power crushing every molecule in his body, but he wasn't about to give up. He'd come too far, seen too much to give in now. The real world depended on him, on them, and he couldn't fail.
"No," he finally said, his voice firm despite the chaos. "You're not invincible. This isn't over."
Madelyne laughed again, but this time it was a short laugh, as if Aleis had said something mildly amusing, but not worthy of real attention.
"Brave, but useless," Madelyne replied. "Limbo is an extension of my will. You have no power here. None of you do."
He didn't answer. In his mind, he was desperately trying to find a solution, a way to reverse the situation. He knew the only way to win was to break Madelyne's absolute control over Limbo, but so far everything had failed.
Just when it seemed all was lost, a figure rose from the rubble. Reed Richards, bruised and wounded, but still with his calculating mind and willpower intact, struggled to his feet. He held a strange device, one that Aleis did not recognize.
"Aleis…" Reed said in a weak, but determined voice. "Listen to me… this device… can… alter the frequency of Limbo's energy. I just need… a few seconds."
Aleis nodded in understanding. If Reed managed to adjust the frequency of the energy, they could temporarily destabilize Madelyne's control over Limbo. It wouldn't be a definitive victory, but it would give them a chance.
"Do it!" Aleis shouted, her eyes once again shining with determination.
Madelyne, sensing what was happening, raised a hand towards Reed, ready to annihilate him before he could complete his plan. Aleis, with a final burst of strength, channeled all of her remaining energy, forming a vector shield between Reed and Madelyne.
"Now, Reed!" Aleis shouted at the top of her lungs.
The device emitted a high-pitched sound, and all of Limbo trembled.
