Chapter 39 - 'THE MOON HAVE EYES'

The fire emanating from all over the Luminary's body disappeared immediately time resumed, and the weapon in his hand had disappeared, much to his and the twins surprise. Similarly, the Pesodent lost all his abilities, the zombies he had created dropped dead immediately and his eyes returned to normal. He looked at his hands and then looked around. Laos deactivated his arm, wondering why the zombies stopped.

Lemon turned to me. I stood over the body of a dead child, staring at it. My eyes still glowing blue, I could feel tears coming out. She ran over, grabbing me in an embrace. I looked up at the sky, my glowing eyes gradually turning back to normal and the tears rolling down my cheeks.

"They died because of me Lemon," I bellowed, my voice calm and remorseful.

"You didn't do this," she replied, tightening her grip. "It wasn't your fault."

But it was. If I had just stayed back at Yolo Central, these people, mothers, children, fathers may still be alive. How did they even find us?

"Everywhere I go, bad things happen," I said, looking around.

She let go of me. Her stare sat on my face, then she looked around at the dead bodies.

"Then technically, it's the same for me," she said. "Cause everywhere you go, I go."

Laos walked right into our conversation, interrupting the stare we were giving each other as we silently tried to comfort each other. He came to us with the Luminary and the Pesodent cuffed and the twins guiding them along.

"This place is compromised," he said. His stare fell on the dead bodies around. "We have to find a new location."

I exhaled. "We need to give them a proper funeral before we leave, at least."

"He's right," Fegor agreed. "Or their spirits would hunt us!"

"That's a load of nonsense," Foma replied. "There's no such thing as spirits of the dead. For Pete's sake, even after everything that has happened since 2030, humans still think backwards."

I chuckled a little. Then with a stern I stared at the bodies.

"Nonetheless, my conscience would hunt me if we left them without a proper burial," I said.

"Eh…what do we do about these guys?" Foma asked, pushing the Pesodent to the front.

I looked at their faces. The memories of what my subconscious did to them immediately flashed back, and a sharp but transient headache passed through my head.

"Are you alright?" Lemon asked, watching as I held my head. Then she noticed she was still holding me in an embrace, and she immediately let go, giving a nervous chuckle.

"I'll take them into custody," Laos said. "Given that they no longer have their powers, the hexagon would be hard for them to escape."

"How did they loose their powers anyway?" Fegor asked, leaning on her sister's shoulder.

"Yeah, I'd like to know that too," Foma added. "One moment they had their powers, the next moment, they didn't. How did you murderers loose your powers?!"

They looked down to the ground, unremorseful faces. The Pesodent did his best to keep his distance from me and avoid eye contact. While the Luminary kept fidgeting like a drug addict.

"He's gonna kill us," he said looking at the Pesodent. "He's gonna kill us Maney!"

"Shut your trap you piece of crap," the Pesodent growled in reply.

"Who's gonna kill you?" Lemon asked.

They kept silent, pretending that the question was never asked.

Laos exhaled. "Don't worry, they'll talk, once we force it out of them at the precinct."

He was about to walk away with them, but then I stopped him. There was one thing I needed to know, something that had been bothering me since we encountered them.

"How did you find me?" I asked, moving closer to the Pesodent.

He eyes shone with fright as I drew closer, he tried to step back but Foma pushed him forward. The way he responded to me, it was like he was seeing a monster.

"Tell me," I said calmly. Almost close to his nose now. "Who told you I was here?"

He trembled. "The…the…moon."

"What?" Everyone asked.

"The moon have eyes," the Luminary said, laughing as he saw Maney tremble at my presence.

"What does that even mean?" Lemon asked.

"Even if we knew," he replied. "We would not tell you. The only thing you should know is that, the boss is always watching. And with your little display back in Arena, you are go—"

"Shut the hell up, you piece of shit!" Maney exclaimed, kicking him in the guts.

I ignored that, thinking of what the Luminary said. The boss, he was probably talking about Eldenstar. He looked at Lemon when he said that last part, which made me look at her too, surprised.

He coughed hard as though he was going to cough his guts out when Maney kicked him. Laos exhaled, grabbing both of their arms.

"That's enough from both of you," he said, pulling them away. "Time to go. I'll be back in fifty hours to take you both to a new location, try not to get into trouble."

I turned to Lemon the moment he was out of sight.

"You were in the Training Arena?" I asked.

She shrugged. "It's a long story."

The twins drew closer, looking at both of us curiously.

"What do you know about the Training Arena?" Fegor asked me, her brows up and judgy.

"Who are you people?" Foma added.

Lemon exhaled, looking at me. "Are you going to tell them, or should I?"

"Were they the ones who took you to the Arena?" I asked.

She nodded nonchalantly. I looked at them with a glare.

"You knights always do reckless things," I growled. "She could have died!"

"Yeah, but she didn't!" Foma defended immediately.

"Again, who the hell are you guys?!" Her sister asked.

"You don't need to know that!" I replied.

"He's the blue Guardian!" Lemon announced almost simultaneously.

"Dude," I said, shaking my head and rubbing my nose bridge.

"Sorry," she replied, shrugging coyishly.
