Arriving at Ashlyn's house after few minutes of driving, Kait parked her car at the only free space in Ashlyn's garage and turned off the engine.
"Let's go in." Kait said and looked at Ashlyn.
"You don't really have to go with me, I'll be fine... No, I'm fine." Ashlyn said politely trying to decline but just as she expected, knowing her best friend too well, Kait wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"If you think I'm going to go and leave you all by yourself tonight just because you told me to, then better get that idea out of your head. Now get down from the car and let's go in."
After dropping those words, Kait came out of her car and waited for Ashlyn to do the same and after Ashlyn had done the same, she locked her car and they left the garage. Walking to the front door, "You haven't changed your passcode right?" Kait asked and Ashlyn replied no before pressing her door passcode to open her door.
They entered the house and Kait locked the door before going to the living room and Ashlyn slumped down on her couch in exhaustion and closed her eyes. "Ah! I hate today." She muttered and sighed.
Hearing Ashlyn words, Kait who was standing at her front only glanced at her for a moment before speaking, "You won't be going anywhere tomorrow, right? Especially work."
"No, I have lot of things to do tomorrow." Ashlyn answered without opening her eyes.
"C'mon Ash, you need rest... You can't choose to be working for the rest of your life."
"I'm not choosing it. I have no choice."
Hearing Ashlyn's reply, Kait raised her brows, "And who's not giving you a choice? yourself or your mum? We both know your mum priority right now is to see you get married and live a happy life not burying yourself with work." She said and it was enough to get a reaction from Ashlyn.
Opening her eyes, she seated properly on the couch and looked up at Kait. "If I can't bring myself to trust any man not more of marriage then this is the only thing I can do for mum. She's gone through so much..."
Cutting her off, "By working so hard? Your mom doesn't want that. Just take a look around you Ash... You leaving all by yourself here, what if something happens to when I'm not around or Clara isn't. I know you're going to say your mum asked me to talk to you or I'm sounding like her but I don't care right now... What's more important to me is your safety." Kait said and Ashlyn could see the concern on her face.
She knew she has made this friend of hers worry so much and now she was ready to take all the nagging but yet... was the issue of marriage getting to her or was she so scared that it would get to her and instead push it out.
"I know I made you worried and I'm sorry, but..."
"You still don't want to talk about it... You still see them in the same light." Kait completed Ashlyn's words. "Ah! it really can't be helped, right?" She asked and got a nod as a reply.
Massaging her temple, "Why are we even talking about this?" Breathing out loudly, "You know what, just go and take a shower, I'll prepare hot coffee for you. Kait said and Ashlyn stood up and started walking towards the stairs without a word but before she stepped on the first stair, two words left her lips.
"Thank you." She said sincerely and ascended the stairs. It was only four so she could easily arrive at her room.
Hearing Ashlyn words, Kait sighed. She felt frustrated and tired but overall was concern for her best friend. Lifting her feet, she carried herself to the kitchen to make the coffee.
Inside Ashlyn room, she had taken off her clothes and entered her bathroom. Turning on the shower, she entered the bathtub and she felt her muscles relax as the warm water fell on her skin.
Enjoying the warmth, she leaned backwards and an image flashed on her mind. The silent and strange man image appeared on her mind and she quivered. Remembering his eyes, she just couldn't understand why it troubled her.
"Ah!! Ashlyn you're going crazy." She muttered while pouring water on her face. "Those eyes... Who is he? Is he after me or we're just meeting by coincidence?" Slapping her both cheeks gently in frustration, "Why am I even thinking about it?" She sighed.
Turning off the shower, she got out of the bathtub and left the room. She dried her body with her towel and changed into her night gown before leaving her room. On getting to the living room, she saw Kait seated comfortably on the couch while drinking her coffee and facing the TV.
"What are you watching?" Ashlyn asked.
Hearing her question, Kait turned to her, "I'm waiting for my 10 pm show. It'll start in less than ten minutes." Kait replied and Ashlyn lips formed an 'O' shape.
"Go to the kitchen, your coffee is there. You took long in the shower so it might be cold already." She added and Ashlyn responded, "Thanks," Before going to the kitchen and seeing the cup of coffee near her jug.
Taking a sip of the coffee, "It's really gone cold." She mused before gulping down every single drop slowly. Washing the cup, she kept it neatly in the cupboard before leaving the kitchen.
"Are you really going to watch the TV tonight?" She asked as she came back to the living room.
"Yes, I can't miss this episode. You can join me if you want." Kait said, her eyes still fixed on the screen.
"No, I'm pretty tired. Good night, you can join me anytime you're done." Ashlyn started walking upstairs immediately she completed her statement and she heard Kait reply. "I'll join you later. Good night, Ash."
