By the time I got downstairs, the table was already set. My aunt now stood in the doorway, speaking to mom in hushed tones. I found it hard to make out their words, but I heard 'loan' and 'husband.' As far as I knew, Aunt Geraldine didn't have a husband so it was probably someone else. Or had she remarried? A part of me wanted to eavesdrop, but I decided against it.
Mom would eventually catch me, and she would be angry. So, I walked into the dining room with a huge grin. "I'm ready." The both of them jumped in shock, before casing their looks of surprise with a smile. Something wasn't adding up.
Aunt Geraldine walked to my side and kissed my forehead. "You look lovely, dear."
"In sweatpants and crocs? I hardly think so." The only thing that probably improved was my hair which I combed into a low messy bun. According to Catherine, it made me look cute which was what I went for.
