Chapter Nineteen: The Judgment
"Ridiculous! I can't imagine you brought me here to crack jokes," police commissioner Reynold said. Reynold kept looking around to know where the voice was coming from.
Mike stared at him from the order side of the room and said "I am not joking and let me prove to you that I am joking,". Mike pressed a button in front of him and the projector in Commissioner Reynold's room came up and projected an image on the wall.
"Do you know who that is?" Mike asked. He projected an image of his father, Mr. Jack, on the wall.
"I don't know, look I am tired of your jokes, you better let me go, or I will get you arrested," police Commissioner Reynold said. Reynold was still arrogant, without realizing the situation he was in.
"You think I am joking, right? Let me show that I am not joking," Mike said. Mike decided to change the picture on the wall that was projected by the projector.
"Now let me ask again, do you think I am joking?" Mike asked again. Mike changed the projected picture on the wall from his father's picture to the picture of Commissioner Reynolds's daughter.
"What! You don't dare touch her, I will find you if you do!" commissioner Reynold shouted while he was tied to a chair.
"Now answer my question, do you remember him?" Mike asked. He changed the projected picture back to his father's picture.
"I don't know, I swear," Commissioner Reynold said. He tried to lose the rope that tied his hands to the chair.
"Now you are lying, you know who that is," Mike said. Mike sat on his chair in another room monitoring Commissioner Reynold's activities but Reynold couldn't see him.
"Stop playing games with me! Just come and lose the ropes and stop wasting my time," Commissioner Reynold said, still not realizing his present situation.
"Okay, now let me bring you back to reality, how is your wife?" Mike asked. Those words sent shivers down the spine of Commissioner Reynold.
"You shouldn't dare," Commissioner Reynold said.
"So answer my question, do you remember him?" Mike asked again.
"Okay, I remember now, I and my colleague arrested him a long time ago, unlawfully because we wanted to set him up," Commissioner Reynold said. He finally realized his situation and was forced to comply.
"Is that all? You are hiding something, I want you to call names and say it in front of the camera," Mike said. He urged Commissioner Reynold to confess in front of the camera that was recording him but Reynold didn't see or know who was talking to him.
"That's all, I swear," police commissioner Reynold said. He begged to be emancipated.
"Okay, let me show you another clip," Mike said through the microphone from the other room. Mike changed the picture projected on the wall to a video clip, showing commissioner Reynold and his activities this morning and the activity of his wife currently.
"Stop! Please don't bring them into this," Commissioner Reynold said, begging the anonymous voice (Mike) not to harm his family.
"So talk!" Mike shouted. Mike was gradually losing his temper.
"Okay, there is one other thing, the man we arrested, his name was Mr. Jack, I was paid to set him up by billionaire Andrew," scared Commissioner Reynold said. He looked at the camera and confessed his sins of the past.
"And what else!" Mike shouted through the microphone and his voice buzzed through the mini-speakers that were in Commissioner Reynold's holding space.
Reynold looked around, he was scared and energy-drained and he said "And I usually take bribes from smugglers and traffickers, so that they can do their deeds without being caught by the police and Mr. Jack was innocent, he didn't steal the necklace." commissioner Reynold said. He was done confessing his sins to the
Mike looked at him from the other side of the room and gasped and said "it will soon be over dad,". Mike got a text from Pearl that says "we need to talk,". Mike looked at it and dropped the phone on the table close to him.
"I have told you everything I know, what else do you want me to say," scared Commissioner Reynold said. He kept looking around to see the man behind the anonymous voice but he couldn't.
Mike looked at him from his own end and gasped. Police Commissioner Reynold kept asking questions but Mike didn't answer or say a word again, and then the commissioner started cursing and cursing.
Mike just looked at him and he switched off the projector leaving the fluorescent bulb to shine bright on Commissioner Reynold's. Reynold was scared because the projector lights had been shut off and the only light bulb in the room was being shone on him and the rest of the room was covered with darkness.
"What is going on? Answer me!" police commissioner Reynold shouted expecting an answer from the anonymous voice (Mike) but Mike didn't respond.
That made the police commissioner, Reynold, very frustrated, and angry, he then shouted "What is wrong with you?"
"Somebody help!!"
"Help!!!"
"Help!!!!"
The commissioner shouted and he tried to lose himself from the ropes but he couldn't do that. He tried several times and got tired.
Mike sat on his chair and said his thoughts out loud, "Finally it is over dad, I did it, I proved that you were innocent,". Mike gasped after finishing his statement.
After some minutes the Commissioner became silent due to the exhaustion he got when he was shouting and struggling with the ropes he was tied with.
Meanwhile that evening, the police officers were still making efforts to find him. The press kept buzzing them with questions and flashes of cameras. Inspector Eric tries to talk to them to calm them down.
"Sir, what is the development of the situation right now?" one of the news reporters asked, pointing his microphone toward Inspector Eric.
"It's under control, our best men are on this case, we assure you, that the commissioner will be rescued and reunited with his family very soon," Inspector Eric replied with a smile on his face.
"Sir, I am from Daily News and I want to ask, do you think that the suspect in this situation has successfully out-smarted the entire police department?" the reporter asked.
"Umm. I don't think so, we are doing our jobs to get him back," Inspector Eric replied.
Another reporter asked, "Sir, don't you think that this is a disgrace to the police department?" the reporter asked, as he waited for his comment.
"Excuse me, I have something to attend to," Inspector Eric said. He walked away from the press and went back into the station but the press followed him but they were blocked by the entrance and they were not given access to the police station.
Inspector Eric walked back into the station and asked Ruby, "Have the suspect made contact with us?"
"No sir, they haven't," Officer Ruby replied.
Meanwhile, Officer Joe was busy sitting on a chair staring at the security footage and he was replaying it over and over again.
"What are you doing?" Inspector Eric asked.
"Sir, look something doesn't add up, the man in the park said that he dropped our suspect by the station to deliver something,"
"And….." Inspector Eric asked curiously waiting for Officer Joe to complete his statement.
"And from the footage, our suspect was carrying a box out of the station, but the middle-aged man said he delivered a box here, so that means that this footage is reverse footage". Officer Joe concluded.
"Wow, so what are you trying to say?" Inspector Eric asked.
"I think Commissioner Reynold is in this building," Officer Joe said.
