Lin Yu, carrying medicine and a worn-out military bag, leisurely strolled along another street. This street was a full kilometer away from the Hui Chun Tang pharmacy where he had purchased medicine earlier. If anyone from Hui Chun Tang happened to see him here now, they would probably be astounded. Did this lad strap a rocket to his back? How did he arrive so swiftly?
Reflecting on the previous events, Lin Yu found it somewhat amusing. Some matters weren't particularly astute or insightful on his part. Instead, certain individuals within the scheme often had unclear perceptions. It was the inability to see the true face of Mount Lu while being on the mountain. Lin Yu believed the middle-aged man to be intelligent and capable of comprehending the implications behind his words.
If one were to be driven by external matters and relentlessly seek them, it would only harm oneself. Even if obtained, what difference would it make?
As for the old professor, Lin Yu genuinely admired him. The professor had no airs, possessed a broad mind, was open to learning, and deeply respected those with genuine capabilities. This displayed exceptional grace, especially his profound reverence and passion for traditional Chinese medicine. His tireless pursuit of knowledge left Lin Yu somewhat impressed.
Humming a tune, Lin Yu, with the worn-out bag slung over his shoulder, contemplated for a moment and decided to take a stroll around the Haifu Building. The Haifu Building wasn't far from there, housing the West City District's Human Resources Market. Enterprises often displayed job vacancies here, and Lin Yu intended to try his luck.
Since returning, he wished to experience the life of an ordinary person, progressing step by step according to the ordinary way of life. Lin Yu's requirements for life were straightforward: food, clothing, a surplus; that was all sufficient. Material indulgences held little significance for someone like him. The position one stands in determines the breadth of one's view of the world and of things. Though Lin Yu didn't claim to be superior due to cultivating this perspective, at the very least, he was indifferent to external matters. Fame, fortune, material, and pleasure were no longer essential to him.
Thus, he had no lofty demands. Having a job to support himself and his grandparents, alleviating their worries, was all he sought. Beyond that, he desired nothing more. The quality of the job wasn't a consideration; it was all a matter of fate.
He took a USB drive from his military bag and went to a nearby photocopy shop to print out several resumes, intending to try his luck.
The Haifu Building wasn't too far from there, merely three stops away. Having grown up in the West City District, he was quite familiar with this area. Without taking any transportation, he leisurely walked towards the Haifu Building.
Navigating through streets and alleys, he arrived at the entrance of the Haifu Building in no time.
The Haifu Building had ten floors, with the bottom three floors serving as the Human Resources Center. The first two floors were for labor-intensive job markets, essentially hiring laborers. The third floor was for high-skilled professionals, where at least an associate degree was required.
Arriving at the first and second floors wasn't an issue; most migrant workers were dressed similarly to him, some even worse. Hence, he didn't attract any unusual glances. However, after reaching the third floor, his attire garnered considerable attention.
It was because his attire stood out among a group of well-dressed young men and women in suits. It felt somewhat conspicuous, akin to a lone chicken among a flock of cranes. Moreover, he even carried an ancient, worn-out bag. Did he resemble someone looking for a job? He seemed more like a performer of performance art.
Wherever he went, people sidestepped him, especially the girls who clutched their purses, eyeing him as if he were a thief.
Lin Yu paid no heed to their curious stares, leisurely strolling amidst the crowd, continuously searching for a suitable position.
After a few rounds, he noticed that most positions didn't have many applicants. However, a particular position by the window attracted numerous people, including the old and the young, mature and youthful, plain and attractive, tall and short—diverse in every aspect.
However, the most crucial aspect was: they were all men.
It appeared to be a gathering of men; at least forty to fifty of them had gathered there, crowding the recruitment office so densely that Lin Yu couldn't see what was happening inside or what position was being offered.
"Goodness, why is this position so popular?" Lin Yu scratched his chin, finding this situation rather intriguing.
"Hey, buddy, what's going on up there?" Lin Yu turned to ask a disinterested man in his thirties sitting behind a signboard of "Tian Cheng Chemicals."
Both units were hiring, but while one was bustling with activity, the other, which seemed to be a solid and well-established company, was eerily quiet with no one showing any interest. It was quite perplexing.
"What's going on? We don't look as good as the other side," the man's tone held a tinge of bitterness.
"What do you mean?" Lin Yu wasn't quite clear about his intention.
"What do I mean? It's just a mediocre private school hiring a male PE teacher, but they've made it all about the looks. They're looking to attract bees and butterflies all day long. What's the point? This is a human resources market, not a matchmaking event," the man grumbled, sounding even more bitter.
Upon hearing this, Lin Yu finally understood. It seemed a private school was hiring a male physical education teacher, and most likely, they had a beautiful woman to lure in a crowd of eager suitors.
"Could she really be that beautiful to attract so many people? That's intriguing." Lin Yu's interest was piqued, scratching his chin, he moved towards the commotion.
"You should save your effort. With your appearance, you don't stand a chance," the man glanced at his worn-out sneakers, his expression disdainful. The phrase "no hope" held a double meaning for him—no hope for the job and absolutely no chance with an attractive woman.
"Well, you never know," Lin Yu chuckled, unruffled. He smoothly squeezed through the crowd, akin to a fish swimming in water. People nearby felt an invisible force pushing them aside, and before they could react, Lin Yu had already moved past them, causing annoyance to many.
Lin Yu didn't care, effortlessly making his way through the dense crowd until he stood in front of a table. Ah, indeed, she was a beauty, a considerable one at that.
