While the two groups of demigods were searching for the Golden Fleece, I was secretly transforming the whole world without even the gods being none the wiser.
I started by creating the Hollow Earth, which was easy since it didn't clash with any other Underworlds. The Underworlds of all Pantheons were a dimension underground but the Hollow Earth was a physical place you could reach by drilling down. The main entrance naturally had to be in the Sea of Monsters.
The first signs the world saw that signaled that something wasn't right was when Godzilla actively started destroying ships that went too close to its layer. Since the stories of Godzilla already existed and many people believed in it, the veil proved very ineffective. It started as only a rumor but that was enough for many people to either start a fan club or to move away from Japan and America.
The demigods on a mission were pretty lucky and only had their boat destroyed by Godzilla's fins but as usual, their luck would take a drastic turn for the worse. They soon reached Polyphemus' Island where the Fleece was located, only to not be greeted by Percy's half-brother Cyclops but by an angry Ape Titan.
Kong didn't take intruders kindly, especially if they came to steal his things, and he wasn't as stupid or weak as the Cyclops who originally lived on this Island.
At first, they tried fighting but Kong was unlike any monster they had ever fought, he was stronger, smarter, and very much unaffected by their toothpick-sized weapons. Watching the daughter of Athena wreak her head about what kind of monster Kong was, was delightful. As knowledgeable as she was, she didn't spend her time watching movies and only studied monsters and mythology.
Although Percy knew what it was and voiced it, it was promptly ignored by everyone because this was real life and not a movie, there was no way these fictional beings would just come into existence, right?
And while the demigods were ready to give their lives to complete the quest, the Fates had other plans. Even if they too were confused, they needed Percy to live so he could continue playing by their plan, even if it meant dooming Camp Half-Blood.
They suddenly had the urge to abandon the quest, even if their nature as a demigod protested, but once Kong threw a three and killed Grover, they decided to leave and grieve their friend. Ironic how a Satyr was killed by nature.
Their luck only got worse as they woke up one Titan after another during their retreat. It is already a wonder how they were even able to escape Rodan but I guess the credit went to the Fates who worried overtime to keeping Percy alive.
While only Rodan was chasing them, they woke up many other Titans who decided to venture out of the sea, causing massive destruction in many coastal areas.
Without the Golden Fleece, the tree/Thalia died from poison, and the barrier around the camp was completely destroyed, causing the monsters outside to overrun the camp and kill anyone who didn't escape.
Zeus would probably have sent Artemis or at least Apollo to help but they were all too busy hunting the escaped Titans. In the end, the survival of their worshipper was more important than their free child laborer, they could always make more.
The whole world was a mess and I loved every second of it. The gods of this world were so weak that they could barely handle one titan, not to mention dozens. Their battle with Typhoon destroyed several cities, which might sound impressive until you realize an entire Pantheon ganged up on him and only caused so much damage and most of it could be attributed to the Father of Monsters.
If you add the fact that the Titans had an unusually strong resistance against divine power that I might or might not have given them, the world was practically screwed, even if Chronos revived, there would be nothing he would be able to rule over.
I still had control over the titans I created but I only gave them the order to not destroy the world but damaging it was ok. I was only using them as a distraction while I explored the other Pantheons but any divine casualty was welcome.
While I went to explore Asgard and Valhalla, Nidhogg went to explore Hollow Earth. Somehow I was having a hunch that something big was going to happen and you should never ignore the hunch of an omnipotent being but I knew there was nothing there that could threaten her, so I did the unthinkable and ignored it.
