Chapter 27 - Hero! (with system)

A boy named Sun Jin Yeon, 15 years old, wakes up in a completely white place, without windows or doors. He feels that his feet don't touch the ground.

"Where am I? What happened?", he asked himself, confused.

He remembered being on his way back from school by bicycle, when he spotted a strange bright light in the sky. Then he woke up in that mysterious place. A floating screen then appeared in front of him, like a computer screen. On it was an empty form. Suddenly, he heard a voice coming from nowhere:

"Sun Jin Yeon, you have been summoned as a hero of the world of Hua. Please edit your persona in this new world."

Sun examined the screen cautiously. He remembered the RPG games he used to play. Maybe he was in a virtual world, like those. He then decided to fill out the form anyway. He comically described his physical appearance, skills and objectives for this new life. However, before sending the voice spoke again and said:

"You died in your homeland, but you were granted a new life in Hua, please build a persona in the best possible way, since it will be you in your new life"

Sun was confused by this unusual situation. Did he really die in his world? And now would he have to live a new life in this place called Hua? He then carefully filled out the form, choosing characteristics that best represented his personality.

In the "Name" field, he typed: "Sun Jin". In "Age": "15 years old". In the "Physical Appearance" section, he described himself as a handsome tall boy, with black hair and eyes. In "Skills and Talents", he distributed his points fairly and came to talents he realized he could not edit that part. And finally, in "Goals in This Life", he typed: "Understand this reality, help people in this world called Hua". When finished, he pressed "Send". Soon the voice sounded again:

"Very well Sun Jin, your request has been accepted. Now descend in peace, Hua awaits you!".

Suddenly, a brightness took over the place. When he opened his eyes, Sun found himself in a hall with some people around him. He was alive in a new world, and eager to get to know it. When he opened his eyes, Sun did not find himself in a flowery field, but inside a large stone hall. There were some people around him watching him closely. Sun realized they were very happy and relieved. "It worked!", said a bearded man in strange clothes. "We must inform the queen!", shouted another.

Slowly getting up, Sun realized he was naked. Quickly, a man brought clothes and covered him. His mind still tried to process everything that was happening. "Where am I?" he thought to himself. He only remembered being in his world, the world before. The people in the hall helped dress him and recover from what seemed to be a long magical ritual. Soon they led him outside.

Curious as he had always been, Sun observed every detail of that strange place. The clothes, architecture, symbols on the walls... Everything was new and exciting for his investigative habit. Soon they arrived at a great throne room, where a queen awaited them. Would she be able to explain what was happening? Sun watched Queen Helena in awe. Despite her young and beautiful appearance, something in her gaze denoted wisdom and power.

"Welcome, hero Sun" - she said with a warm smile.

"It was through ancestral magic that we brought you here."

Understanding from the games he used to play, Sun knelt respectfully before her.

"I am at Your Majesty's service to help your people" - he replied gallantly.

"A great calamity threatens Nitrea" - Helena told him regretfully.

"A terrible demon lord wants to dominate our kingdom."

Sun soon understood the weight of his mission in this world. Though so young, he wished to help in some way.

"Order me, queen, and I will do my best to fulfill it" - he spoke, full of determination.

Helena smiled, admired by his courage.

"First you must strengthen yourself" - said the queen.

"My weapons master, Sir Brass, will prepare you for the challenges to come. Let your training begin!"

Excited, Sun followed the valiant knight to begin his journey as a hero in Nitrea.

In the weapons hall, Brass asked Sun to choose a weapon. He meticulously chose a broad normal sword, which seemed to be the best among those available. Now Brass asked him to choose armor, and the best option was chainmail armor, which also appeared to be the best of all in that place. Finally, Brass asked Sun to go to the Falcon Guild, the adventurer's guild of the kingdom of Nitrea.

As Sun went to the guild he noticed that the capital of the kingdom of Nitrea, Heallas, was in a terrible state, with many people living on the streets and crimes occurring in broad daylight...

When he saw the girl in trouble, Sun's instinct spoke louder. Although he knew he was not yet fully prepared, he could not ignore those in need of help. He approached the bandits decisively. "Release her now!" he shouted, trying to sound confident. The men just laughed at the boy's audacity.

"Get out of here while you still can, boy," threatened one of them. But Sun stood his ground. He needed to buy the girl every second until she escaped. On an impulse, he threw himself at the first bandit, knocking him down. He took advantage of the surprise to push the woman in the opposite direction. "Run!" he ordered. She obediently fled as fast as possible. The second criminal then advanced furiously against Sun, drawing his dagger.

The boy tried to avoid the blow, but ended up being hit in the neck. He felt the acute pain and fell to his knees, stunned, watching his own blood gush out. The bandit laughed, convinced of his victory. But his accomplice shouted: "Let's get out of here! Reinforcements will come soon!". Both fled in a hurry. Sun tried to get up, but had no strength left. He lay on the dirty ground, trembling. "No... it can't be!", he thought desperately.

Everything became blurred. In the distance, he heard cries for help and hurried footsteps approaching. "Hold on, boy!" pleaded a distant voice.

Then darkness took over. His mind wandered: would he really not be the promised hero? Would he die without fulfilling his mission? Only time would tell to discover.

Sun woke up confused, lying where he had been attacked. He looked at his dried blood on the ground, incredulous. Upon realizing that his wound had disappeared, he could hardly believe it. At that moment, the mysterious screen with his data reappeared once more. In the "Talents" tab, he now had the new ability "Miracle". Reading its description, he understood: it was a power granted only to heroes, allowing a daily miracle that saves from death.

Finally he understood what had actually happened: his special ability had saved him from a fatality. But it would only be once a day. "I was defeated so easily...", he thought, embarrassed. He was still far from being prepared. The bandits were just common enemies, and they almost ended his life. The sun was already setting on the horizon, indicating he had spent almost a whole day for the "miracle" to happen. He decided to proceed with caution from now on, until his powers matured. He got up unsteadily, determined. Rescuing women in danger continued being his mission, but now he would act in a wiser, more strategic way, not to waste his special gift too soon. His training would continue.

Sun hurried to the Falcon Guild, anxious to begin his training...

When Sun arrived at the guild, he found few adventurers, likely due to the hour. Upon identifying himself, the receptionist immediately called Master Manet. Surprised, Sun was led to the main hall, where the master and three others awaited him. Sitting in a corner, wearing chainmail armor with the number 5, was the dwarf warrior Tadeus, with a serious and silent expression. Standing next to him, the elf archer Yohanna demonstrated restlessness. Finally, the human mage Marin seemed anxious.

Noticing the bloodstains on Sun's chainmail, Marin inquired: "What happened?". He just smiled awkwardly, remembering the miraculous event. Manet made the introductions:

"They are your new companions, to help you evolve."

Sun cordially greeted them, relieved to no longer be alone in Nitrea. Marin smiled and said:

"We are here to help, friend."

"You will go on missions as a team!" completed the master.

Despite the initial difficulties, Sun was already understanding the magnitude of his secret mission to protect Nitrea from evil. By the side of these valiant allies, he would certainly strengthen skills and powers to fulfill his destiny as a hero.

Manet considered the group ready for the first incursion. He led them to the mission board and chose "Exterminate slimes on the borders".

"Slimes are weak, but in large numbers they can be dangerous," Manet explained.

"Consider this a warm-up. Good hunting!"

They headed to the indicated area, at the edge of the forest. Soon they spotted several green slimes crawling through the grass.

"Five each, let's go!" shouted Tadeus, drawing his battleaxe and going into battle.

Marin supported Sun with magic and long-range attacks. Yohanna dropped their targets with accurate arrows. After a few minutes, they had filled their quota. Another horde of slimes approached, drawn by the bodily substances of the dead creatures.

"Let's flank them and attack from behind!" plotted Sun. They circled around and quickly finished off the little monsters.

Tired, they decided to stop and rest. On the way back, they spotted a clearing with goblins

"They are weak, but in greater numbers," evaluated Yohanna.

"If we act carefully, we can defeat them!"

This time, Yohanna and Marin supported from a distance, while Tadeus and Sun attacked the goblins. After a short battle, they emerged victorious once again.

"Great work, team!" praised Manet when they returned. Their training was yielding results.

Sun carefully analyzed his data, seeing that his level had increased after the mission. "Soon I will be ready for greater challenges," he thought confidently. He was preparing to sleep when he noticed an owl at the open window of his room. Surprised, he saw the bird turn its flaming eyes in his direction.

"Sun Jin Yeon, you were brought to destroy the evil that always plagues these lands," said the owl in a wise voice.

"Your journey has only begun. I see glory and sorrow in your destiny, but I trust you will follow your noble heart."

Before he could question it, the creature disappeared into the air. Sun sat stunned, reflecting on the enigmatic words. Was his purpose truly greater than he imagined? New mysteries surrounded this magical world... and new challenges would certainly come. He resolved to rest his body but his mind was buzzing with questions. He fell asleep with a racing heart, eager to continue evolving his gifts. His future seemed promising, but full of uncertainties. Only time would tell if he was up to the task of fulfilling his epic fate.

The team followed to the Mountains of Beasts, where reports of a troll terrorizing travelers. They located the creature in a cave.

"Beware, trolls are devastating!" warned Tadeus.

The monster measured 3 meters, with thick skin and hungry eyes. It roared upon seeing them, shaking its heavy club.

"Team, get in position!" ordered Sun, drawing his sword. He and Tadeus attacked up front, while the women supported from afar. The troll resisted the blows, ferociously counterattacking. In an impulse, it knocked down Tadeus and charged at the weakened Marin. Without thinking, Sun threw himself in front of her. Seconds later, he felt his body crushed under the weight of the enemy club. He heard horrified screams from his companions upon seeing his last breath.

"No! Sun, hold on!" pleaded Marin through tears.

The hero lay motionless. Suddenly, his body began to glow. In moments, he rose again, miraculously healed.

"My 'Miracle'...worked again!" said Sun, relieved.

Renewed, they returned to battle the troll. This time, united, they managed to defeat the beast after a long fight. But it had been close to his mission ending there. He would still need to perfect his skills to survive the dangers that awaited them.

After defeating the troll, the team looked at each other open-mouthed by Sun's resurrection.

"Sun, how did you achieve such a feat?" asked the admiring Yohanna.

Sun hesitated to tell about his secret mission, but the companions had proven their valor. He briefly explained about the mysterious "Miracle".

"Your destiny seems greater than we imagined," commented Marin, pensive.

They returned to the guild, where they reported the success to Manet. He congratulated the group for another feat. Alone in his room, Sun analyzed his data once more. He noticed points to improve his skills. He chose "Armor Reinforcement" and "Weapon Reinforcement", which would increase his attributes.

"These improvements will certainly help with my challenges," he reflected, noticing the immediate improvement in his battle statistics.

He was still far from the full potential of his power. But each new technique conquered brought him closer to the true dimension of his secret mission to protect Nitrea from evil. He would push forward, strengthening more and more. The next day the team followed towards the Sinister Cave, a feared dungeon on the outskirts. Inside, zombies, spiders and goblins were sowing chaos. It was hours of battle under constant attacks. They mutually supported each other, increasingly in tune. Still, they suffered wounds.

When they finally reached the last level, their potions and magics were almost gone. But the reward would be worth their efforts. In the center of the final chamber rested a golden sword with a broad blade, encrusted with yellow stones.

"It is beautiful...and powerful energies emanate from it," said Marin, enchanted.

Carefully, Sun touched the weapon. A wave of heat passed through him, renewing his strength.

"It has chosen me. I will call this valiant ally 'Miracle', in honor of my special hero power."

They emerged triumphant from the sinister dungeon, their objectives complete. And Sun could feel that "Miracle" was ready for future battles by his side, further amplifying his abilities to defend Nitrea. The team celebrated the valuable treasure and bonds of fellowship forged in that difficult but rewarding adventure.

The team rested after another mission when a royal messenger called them. In the throne hall, Queen Helena awaited them.

"My brave champions, you have done excellent work defending our kingdom," she praised.

"But I fear new dangers may arise soon."

The adventurers looked at each other in surprise at her serious tone.

"We have received rumors of strange activities in the Gloomy Forest. We would like you to investigate the case."

Sun spoke up:

"You can count on us, Queen Helena. We are ready to face any threat to Nitrea."

"Such devotion comforts me," she smiled.

"However, I fear this may be above your current strengths. You must strengthen yourselves first."

She indicated a scroll:

"This royal seal will grant you access to advanced training. When you feel prepared, depart on a special mission to the Forest. Discover the source of the darkness and stop it, if possible."

Sun's most dangerous challenge likely awaited them there. Would he and his companions depart ready to face the dangers and save the kingdom once more? Only fate will tell.

The queen had faith in Sun and his team, but recognized the threat may be too great yet. With the royal seal providing the best training, the heroes had the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities further before embarking on their most critical mission. Though eager for adventure, Sun understood preparation was key to success. He was grateful for the chance to properly empower himself for whatever evils lurked in the forest's shadows. With fortune, they would return, empowered as protectors of Nitrea.
