MAGIC - Magic was a supernatural force that changed aspects of the world at fundamental levels.

The ability for humans to use magic was a hereditary trait passed down from a person's ancestors, which allowed witches and wizards to practise it.

Rather than being a mystical or unnatural pursuit that defied the laws of nature, however, magic simply allowed those who could wield it to exploit them in very specific and creative ways that Muggle science were unable to replicate.

--------------------------

One example of this, for example, was in how vanishment did not actually make objects cease to exist, but rather,

according to Professor McGonagall, go "into non-being, which is to say, everything", which was consistent with the law of conservation of matter and energy.

__________________

Magic also followed its own set of rules with respect to what it could do, such as how Conjured objects could only exist for a temporary period of time, and objects couldn't be enlarged beyond a certain point without becoming unstable and/or exploding.

The basic concepts of magic were fairly simple — even a two-year-old wizard could do some form of magic — but the inherent power and potential for misuse were great indeed.

It was for this reason that promising young witches and wizards were sent to schools of magic, such as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to refine their craft and learn the art and responsibility of their power.

+++++++++++++

There, they learned a variety of magical specialities, general theory and the history of magic in their world.

Magic was unable to be performed by non-magic people (more commonly known as Muggles), which was what separated the Muggle world from the wizarding world.

As a substitute for magic, Muggles used technology, but in the same sense, many wizards were ignorant of the workings of most Muggle devices, including electricity.

Both Muggles and wizards viewed their choice of tool as completely and utterly logical and ordinary, although each would find the other's tools fascinating or even mysterious.

In humans, the ability to perform magic, or lack thereof, was an inborn attribute. The former was the norm in the children of magical couples and rare in those of Muggles.

The wizarding gene (found in witches and wizards) was dominant, while the non-magical gene (found in Muggles and Squibs) was recessive.

Those unable to do magic who were born to magical parents were known as Squibs; this was when the non-magical gene resurfaced, causing the offspring to therefore be non-magical.

A witch or wizard born to Muggle parents was known as a Muggle-born. This was when a Muggle family was descended from a Squib, and the wizarding gene resurfaced many generations later.

Muggle-borns were far more common than Squibs, which might be a feature of the disparate sizes of the Muggle and wizarding populations.

Other intelligent magical beings in the wizarding world, such as veelas, goblins and house-elves, could also perform their own brand of magic, distinctly different from human magic.

Other magical creatures might possess their own forms of rudimentary magic, including fairies.

Like the human race itself, magic was supposed to have originated in Africa.

Wizards and witches were known to society at large and were held in awe and high esteem due to their unique powers. Ancient Egyptian wizards placed curses to protect their tombs from plunderers.

Ancient Indian wizards created the Snake Summons Spell. The wand was invented in Europe during the B.C. era.

Dark Magic was practised and evident in ancient Greece, with Herpo the Foul being infamous for pioneering a multitude of forbidden practices, including creating the first known Basilisk, as well as the first known Horcrux.

These genes were portions of human DNA that determined whether or not an individual had magical abilities.

Those people born with the genes active were witches and wizards, while those who were born with the gene but it was inactive were Squibs, and those who did not have the gene at all were Muggles.

Magic genes were described as being "dominant and resilient".Squibs, while unable to use magic, were often still able to function within the wizarding world to a limited degree.

The descendants of squibs who instead integrated into the Muggle world and married would usually be Muggles, although the magical abilities occasionally resurfaced in later generations, producing a Muggle-born witch or wizard.

This the muggles were actually descendents of purebloods ( squib) .

There are 7 types of spells in the Harry Potter universe: charms, curses, transfigurations, healing spells, jinxes, hexes, and counter-spells

. Each of these types have their own properties and purposes, all being able to be cast by a single wand.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Wand is most important thing in Harry Potter so we will start with it .

What is a wand -

WAND- A wand is the object through which a witch or wizard channels his or her magic. It is made from wood and has a magical substance at its core.

Wands made by Ollivander have cores of phoenix feather, unicorn hair or dragon heartstring, and are of varying woods, lengths, and flexibilities.

A wand was a quasi-sentient magical instrument through which a witch or wizard channelled their magical powers to centralise the effects for more complex results.

(Most spells were cast with the aid of wands, but spells could be cast without the use of wands.)

Although wandless magic was more common in other countries, such as some in Africa.

European wizards were generally used to using the tool and found wandless magic more difficult, requiring much more concentration and skill to perform these spells.

It is same same choosing between option of starting fire - you can to primitive way by rubbing rocks ,or use a match or a lighter.

Now the thing is you can consider wands as a lighter and these lighters are very easily available.

If you have a lighter, will you use rocks or matches to light a fire , no .

Same is with wands , it is not that complex magic is not possible without wand or anything,

It is the issue of ease of use ,

Wands are very easily available in the magical world,

And the wands amplify the magic and makes it easier to do magic. So why would anyone want to try ridiculously hard and barely achieve same results ,.

Now some will say what if a wand broke or lost , well if a knight lost his sword then what .

A swordsman fights with a sword , does that mean he is nothing without sword. .

And every one have more than one wands , yes , thought ministry says only one wand is allowed, but nearly all adults have spare ones .

And one more things , even if a wizards learns wandless magic and excell in it he will not be able to match one who uses a wand as wands amplify magic .

Wand is not a liability, just like e dictionary, if a person can download dictionary in there phone then why the hell would he buy a hard copy .

------------------

-----------------

Some magical creatures such as house-elves and goblins were known to perform magic similar to that used by wizards and, in fact, were forbidden to carry wands.

This had been a point of contention between wizards and goblins for centuries.

Wands were manufactured and sold by wandmakers, the most famous of these in Great Britain being Garrick Ollivander, and in Eastern Europe, Mykew Gregorovitch.

Each wand consisted of a specific type of wood that surrounded a core of magical substance.

Although the wand cores might come from the same creature, or the wood might come from the same tree, no two existing wands were exactly alike.

The study of the history and the magical properties of wands was called wandlore. Wands were often buried along or burned when their owner died.

Wands were developed in Europe at an unknown point, though it is known that it was in the B.C. era.

The first witch who was a wandmaker in North America was Irish witch Isolt Sayre, who came to North America and started making wands for her adoptive sons and the students of her school Ilvermorny with her husband James Steward.

With the passage of Rappaport's Law, no child was allowed a wand until they arrived at Ilvermorny and they had to leave them there during the holidays until they reached the age of seventeen.

By the 1920s, the use of wands had become common in North America although every witch and wizard, including tourists, needed a Wand permit.

At an unknown point in history, wands were introduced to Asia. Cherry wand masters received special prestige at Mahoutokoro school in Japan.

In the 20th century, wands were introduced to Africa, where they were less commonly used compared to other parts of the world.

There was at least one known business that specialised in tuning wands to improve their performance. Repair services were also available.

The Ollivander family started manufacturing wands in 382 B.C. Over time, they earned a worldwide reputation.

In the 13th century, the Elder Wand, which would become known as the most powerful wand in existence, was created.

Magic and wands

Magic with a wand was usually performed with an incantation, but more experienced wizards could cast nonverbal spells, which concealed the spell until cast and might thereby prevent an opponent from adequately protecting him- or herself in time.

Wands were referred to as "quasi-sentient" because their being imbued with a great deal of magic made them as animate as an inanimate object could be.

Every single wand was unique and would depend for its character on the particular tree and magical creature from which it derived its materials.

Moreover, each wand, from the moment it found its ideal owner, would begin to learn from and teach its human partner.

+++++++++++

WANDLORE -

Wandlore was a specific class of magic that referred to the history and magical properties of wands.

Ollivander claimed that it was a "complex and mysterious branch of magic". The idea that a wand chose the wizard and could switch allegiance was a part of wandlore.

The Celtic Tree Calendar had assigned trees to different parts of the year and it sometimes played a part in wandlore.

This calendar showed each month and the wood that went with it.

Some wands and their owners aligned with the calendar such as: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley (his first wand), and Draco Malfoy.

Their wands were made of the wood that was linked to their date of birth. Harry was born between 8 July–4 August, and his wand wood was holly;

Hermione was born between 2 September–29 September, and her wand wood was vine;

Ron was born between 18 February–17 March, and his first wand was made of ash;

Draco was born between 13 May–9 June, and his wand wood was hawthorn.

In almost all documented cases, the wand chose the wizard who matched its character because the wizard might have difficulty or be unable to perform magic if his or her wand's characters conflicted, or the magic might be sub-par to magic performed with a matching wand.

Although Ollivander said that wizardkind could channel their powers through almost anything, optimum results could only be achieved with those they had a natural affinity for.

When trying out different wands, a wand that was not suited to its wielder would usually not do anything at all.

However, a warm feeling was an indication of having chosen the right wand, and the wand sometimes emitted a few sparks or did some similar, small sign of magic.

Wands were quasi-sentient: although they could not think or communicate like a human, they could perform certain actions through their own will.

This ability may have been how they chose their wizard or witch and also explains Harry's wand's autonomously acting against Voldemort.

In addition, some witches and wizards were able to sense their own wand if it was close by, even if they themselves were not holding it.

Interestingly, Ominis Gaunt seemed to use his wand as a means to navigate his surroundings despite his blindness. He could be seen walking around the Castle with his wand held in the air, with it occasionally blinking a red light at the tip.

Many wandmakers simply match the wand length to the size of the witch or wizard who will use it, but this is a crude measure, and fails to take into account many other, important considerations.

longer wands might suit taller wizards, but they tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, and those of a more spacious and dramatic style of magic.

Neater wands favour more elegant and refined spell-casting.

However, no single aspect of wand composition should be considered in isolation of all the others, and the type of wood, the core and the flexibility may either counterbalance or enhance the attributes of the wand's length.
