Chapter 15 - The inexplicable anchor

Chu Yi was astonished to find out that the strawberry he met was actually a streamer, who only surrendered and danced when encountering enemies. He wondered who would become her fan. Claiming to be a celebrity seemed like an exaggeration.

Unless she had breathtaking beauty… With such natural grace, did she even need to be a game streamer?

She might be a sweet-voiced, enchanting Lolita!

Seeing her surrender so completely, Chu Yi felt a bit awkward to be unpredictable. After some thought, he began to set some rules:

"Let's team up then, but I have three conditions," he said.

"First, you can only carry one gun."

"Second, you must walk in front of me. Go wherever I tell you to."

"Third… actually, there's nothing else. Just follow the first two rules!"

Strawberry nodded in resignation, agreeing to his terms. She timidly asked, "Do I still have to keep dancing?"

"Stop dancing, really, it's too awful to watch," Chu Yi couldn't help but criticize.

"Wuu wuu wuu... I can't control these dance moves, they're part of the game settings…" Strawberry was almost in tears.

Chu Yi scanned Strawberry's gear on the ground and noticed she was wearing level-three head and body armor. He unapologetically equipped them on himself. He also swapped his SLR sniper rifle and Bison submachine gun for her gear.

"Your equipment is really luxurious! You're like a well-equipped courier, just waiting for someone destined to take it," Chu Yi exclaimed.

"Ah… stop teasing me, we need to move, the zone is shrinking," Strawberry said with a sense of grievance.

Chu Yi looked around and indeed, he found that the zone had silently shrunk to seven hundred meters away. He quickly ordered Strawberry to organize her equipment and lead the way. They went downstairs, onto the road, and found an off-road dune buggy. Chu Yi drove, and Strawberry sat in the back. The buggy zoomed through the buildings of P City like lightning, racing towards the lush mountains in the distance.

The journey was surprisingly calm, with almost no enemies encountered. After scavenging a few houses, they continued to drive deeper into the "poison zone," eventually safely entering the final circle.

Chu Yi glanced at the remaining players display, which showed nine people left. Excluding him and Strawberry, there were seven enemies hidden in the shadows.

He instructed Strawberry to move forward ten meters and then jump left and right, as high and as noticeably as possible.

Panicking, Strawberry protested, "Jumping like this, I'll get sniped! Let me lie on the ground instead!"

Chu Yi ignored her plea, holding his SLR sniper rifle with an indifferent expression, "If you don't do as I say, I'll snipe you right now. Hurry up and jump!"

Reluctantly, Strawberry complied, moving ahead and trying her best to move from side to side. Clearly, her jumping skills were not impressive, and her gaming level was quite average.

Chu Yi hid behind a large tree, focusing intently on the woods and buildings ahead.

His intention for bringing Strawberry into the final circle was clear—to use her as bait and a live target to attract enemy fire. This way, he could safely observe from behind and wait for the opportunity to spot the enemy shooters. At this moment, Strawberry's life seemed trivial, as Chu Yi could utilize her sacrifice to gain a tactical advantage.

The viewers in the live stream quickly saw through Chu Yi's strategy, and the comments flooded in:

Watermelon: "Wow, the streamer's tactics are really cunning!"

Gun King: "This streamer is so bad, but in a good way… I like it!"

Chu Yi's Handsome Brother: "How can he treat a girl like this! Using a girl as bait to attract fire, that's too cruel!"

Poor Bunny: "Strawberry is so pitiful. Other streamers would protect her, but this one mercilessly uses her as a target!"

Chu Yi waited for a long time but noticed no one shooting at Strawberry, growing anxious.

Such an obvious target, why isn't anyone shooting?

Did they see through the bait?

That shouldn't be, right?

Just as Chu Yi was puzzled, gunshots suddenly rang out from the southeast! The sound of an M416!

Bullets whizzed towards Strawberry, hitting her body!

Strawberry screamed and began to run around, but soon she was hit by several more bullets. How could she escape under such relentless pursuit?

Her health rapidly decreased, almost reaching zero!

Strawberry cried out in a whining tone, "It's over, it's over, I'm going to die!"

Suddenly, Chu Yi stood up, lifted his SLR rifle, and fired two shots without aiming through the scope!

Two 7.62mm bullets tore through the air, crossed the woods, and accurately hit an enemy hiding in the bushes 300 meters away!

Two consecutive headshots!

The enemy had no time to react and vanished in a beam of light.

Strawberry suddenly realized that the chasing M416 bullets had stopped. She quickly hid behind a large tree, hastily using a medkit to heal. Her health bar rapidly rose from the brink to 75%. She drank a beverage, continuously recovering her health.

In Chu Yi's live stream, his fans' enthusiasm was reignited:

Oreo: "My god, such precise shooting! Unscoped headshots? I'm going to recharge and tip the streamer!"

Gun King: "The streamer is incredible! Sending a hot air balloon tip!"

1Q84: "Amazing, so strong! If it wasn't for the failed report, I'd think this was an aimbot! No more talking, tipping!"

The fans began to tip, and although each amount was small, the numbers added up quickly. In just a few minutes, Chu Yi had earned over a hundred yuan.

In the distance, behind a hillside, a flurry of gunfire suddenly erupted.

The kill feed updated rapidly, and within a few seconds, several more players were down. The final circle was always like this: long periods of calm abruptly broken by intense combat. Everyone lay prone in the grass like ground wizards, hard to spot. Once one person revealed their location, it would trigger a chain reaction of gunfire, exposing even more players. Given the small size of the final circle and the proximity of players, direct confrontations were inevitable.

Now, only four remained in the final circle: Chu Yi, Strawberry, and two other enemies.

Strawberry seemed relieved, "Phew! Finally made it to the final circle today. I guess I've done right by my fans!"

Chu Yi was somewhat speechless, "Didn't you say you're a battle royale streamer? Shouldn't you be making it to the final circle every stream? What's with the 'finally'?"

Strawberry bristled, "I'm good at this! It's just bad luck!"

Chu Yi shrugged indifferently, choosing not to argue with the novice and continued to scan the woods ahead. He paid special attention to the edges of the hillside and the grass around each large tree and other potential hiding spots. Despite his careful scrutiny, he saw no sign of the remaining enemies. These last two were likely skilled players, at least veterans of the game, who knew how to conceal their positions.

They needed to move to the next safe zone, which was only ten meters away. However, the open ground there offered no cover, no rocks or trees to hide behind. It would be perilously exposed. They would become easy targets for enemies.

With no other choice, they had to once again use a captive to help them.

Chu Yi commanded, "Strawberry, continue forward into the safe zone. Then start jumping left and right to create smoke."

Strawberry was reluctant, "Really? Jumping again? The next safe zone is so small, I'll definitely get shot!"

Chu Yi replied firmly, "Don't be afraid. If someone attacks you, I'll immediately aim for their head."

Strawberry was skeptical, "Can I really trust you?"

Chu Yi threatened, "You must go forward no matter what! Or I'll take your head myself!"

With no other option, Strawberry injected herself with two painkillers, hoping the gradual health recovery would increase her chances of survival. She cautiously entered the safe zone, beginning her erratic jumping and creating smoke.

Chu Yi was fully focused on the computer screen, keeping an eye on every little movement around him.

He thought, "Come out, last two enemies!"

Seeing someone jumping around provocatively in the safe zone, he wondered why the enemies wouldn't shoot at such an arrogant target.

Perhaps Strawberry's bold antics were too conspicuous. As the circle shrank, two figures emerged simultaneously from the left and right sides of the opposite hillside, opening fire on Strawberry!

The moment they appeared, Chu Yi quickly targeted them. Without aiming through his scope, he fired his SLR rifle!

Screams from Strawberry, the roar of three guns, and bullets of various calibers whistled over the grass!

Two notifications sounded almost at once; the last two enemies were killed! Chu Yi immediately stood and ran towards the safe zone.

Strawberry was a bit panicked, "What do we do now? It's just the two of us left."

Chu Yi pondered for a moment and then suddenly pulled out a grenade, gently pulling the pin.

Strawberry stood still, not moving. She sighed softly, knowing she was about to be killed by the grenade. But she wasn't overly afraid or resentful; making it to second place in this game was already quite an achievement. Sometimes, playing dozens of rounds wouldn't yield such a result. Now, it was like a free second place, so what was there to be unsatisfied about?

However, with a loud explosion, Strawberry was surprised to find the "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" screen popping up on her computer!

Chu Yi hadn't thrown the grenade at Strawberry. Instead, he held it tightly in his hand, choosing to kill himself.

"For me, winning is routine. But seeing you win doesn't seem easy, so I'll give you a leg up this time. Being a live target is hard work," said Chu Yi.
