As the two of them passed on the horse, the crowds split, despite the frenzy they had been reduced to during the climax of the civil war within Corcilus, they were still smart enough to not get in the way of a warhorse.
Adara, keeping her eyes on the dirt road through the city, watched with increasing horror at how quickly they became rabid. Unable to move forwards, the people began to tear forwards, eager to escape the ongoing battle behind them.
Children were crying, seemingly loosing sight of their parents, adults were throwing eachother out the way and the wardens, former peacekeepers of the city, were nowhere to be seen.
But she steeled herself, she was aware that it would be wrong to help them, wrong to leave those in need, but she had to anyway, because if she didn't, it compromised her objective, it compromised her Lord.
So she ignored them, ignored the cries for help, the babies offered to her, she ignored it all.
And by leaving them all behind, Adara felt that she left something else behind to.
Lucas, meanwhile, was having the time of his life. His head craned to look at the aerial fight behind him, his jaw hung in amazement.
They had both turned into completely different creatures that the bodies they once inhabited, Eris was now a long red snake, crimson lightning bursting from its jaw.
Moros was a Gargoyle, his dark wings of shadow shielding the burst of thunder by malforming into a sphere around him.
He had known before of course, but it was simply impossible to deny now. He was in another world, a dark, dismal one of war and magic.
But strangely, he was loving every second of it.
Maybe he really was his father's child? He shook his head, discarding the thought, he would never be like that monster.
As he had that thought, Adara drew Anox to a sudden stop, forcing Lucas to try and catch himself, almost falling off.
"What? What is it?" Called Lucas turning his head to the front, "why are we stopping?"
Adara did not respond her eyes staring forwards, following her gaze was a mysterious figure, a steel mask staring straight at Adara.
Jumping off the horse Adara fell to her knees, "my lord, I thank you for coming all this way..." Said Adara, Lucas was mildly shocked at the reverence in her voice.
"No big deal, girl, I'm merely a projection as it right now," said hypnos, wiping imaginary dust of his imaginary cloak. "I'm actually in a bath right now, dragon blood is great for my skin..."
Adara, nodded, with some difficulty, considering her head was still pushed into the ground with a bow.
"You see, Adara, I just wanted to check you had the horn. It is very important you bring it back safely,"
"Of course my lord, I have recieved it from lady Eris, and I will bring it to you as quickly as I can," responded Adara, "One more thing, My lord..."
"Speak girl,"
Adara hesitated, "...I have gained an ally in Corcilus, he has assisted me greatly, and due to the current state of this city, was wondering if he may stay with us?"
Hypnos tilted his head slightly, "that's strange, you've never asked for anything before."
Adara remained silent, unsure if Hypnos was asking for further explanation or not.
"Bring him with you then," said Hypnos, making an exaggerated sigh of defeat, like a parent getting a child their favourite toy.
"Oh, if he's boring though..." Said Hypnos, his tone changing.
"I'll kill him."
And with those chilling words he vanished, leaving the two in silence.
Silence? That wasn't right, what about the crowds?
Looking around it soon dawned on Lucas why it was so quiet.
Due to his presence alone. The entire nearby by population, of at least 100 meters, were all sleeping .
