Chapter 12 - Questions and no answers

As Adara stepped to follow him, leaving the horse hear, Lucas grabbed her arm. Before instantly letting go upon seeing the a spark of pain to on her face.

"What are you doing? We can't follow this guy!" Hushed Lucas, hoping that Can't would be out of ear shot.

"Why not? He said that he'd take us to the auction, that's where we need to go." Responded Adara, nonchalantly, seemingly confused at Lucas's apprehension.

"Look at him! He's lying!" Said Lucas now slightly infuriated.

Adara shook her head, giving Lucas a sharp look now in a bad mood, she explained.

"See the scorpion on his head, that's a symbol planted on him by Eris, enslaving him. He can only do what he is told to do by her."

Lucas nodded, finding clarity in her explanation, continuing with her as Adara walked, Adara tried to hold her wound without being spotted by Canor.

Canor led the way, striding ahead confidently as Lucas and Adara followed, keeping a cautious distance.

Curiosity gleamed in Canor's eyes as he glanced back at Adara and Lucas, his interest piqued by the mention of Hypnos. "So, you're under Hypnos's domain, hm? The lord of solitude and isolation. Quite an intriguing association, I must say," Canor remarked casually, his voice laced with curiosity.

Adara remained composed, her expression guarded, but she replied evenly, "Yes, his domain is where my allegiance lies."

Lucas stayed silent, observing the exchange with a mixture of curiosity and caution. The conversation about Hypnos intrigued him, but he opted to listen rather than interject.

"Tell me, what's it like serving under Hypnos? I've heard tales, whispers of his domain, but little more."

Adara's response remained deliberately elusive, her tone guarded. "It's a domain of solitude and loyalty. Those who serve understand their place within it."

Canor's curiosity only seemed to intensify in the face of Adara's evasiveness. "I see. A mysterious lord, veiled in secrecy and power. Fascinating. How did you come to serve under his banner?"

Adara's tone remained cryptic as she replied, "Circumstances led me to his service."

Ending the topic of conversation there, an awkward silence overtook them as they weaved through the outskirts.

Lucas was sure people were avoiding them, most likely because of the obvious symbol on Canors face.

Canor, noticing the reticence of the locals and Lucas's observant nature, turned his attention to the young man, his curiosity piqued. "You seem quite perceptive, lad. What brings you to this particular company?" Canor inquired, his eyes fixated on Lucas, attempting to glean more about the enigmatic young man.

Lucas, adopting an air of guarded reserve, decided to reciprocate Adara's vagueness when it came to discussing their affiliations. "Just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time, I guess," he replied evasively, careful not to reveal too much about his origins or motivations.

Canor's gaze lingered on Lucas for a moment longer, an inscrutable expression crossing his features as he processed the response. Sensing Lucas's reluctance to divulge further information, Canor didn't press the matter any further, realizing that the young man was intentionally being elusive.

As they continued their journey towards the auction, the air remained thick with unspoken tension and a shroud of secrecy, each member of the group harboring their own concealed motives and affiliations. The enigmatic nature of their circumstances created an atmosphere fraught with mystery and guardedness, leaving Canor with more questions than answers about the pair that accompanied him.
