"Your son has to clear all suspicions before he will be allowed to leave prison. Please understand this," Inspector Evans said for the umpteenth time this morning. Maame U had gone to the police building to ask about her son's whereabouts. She couldn't understand why her son had not been released. But as the chief inspector explained, it seems they will not release him until he has cleared all suspicions. There were traces of tears on her face, and she looked depressed.
Inspector Evans found the woman causing a scene at the reception area, while Peter and Maddy were trying to calm her down. He quickly invited her into his office to assure her that her son would be released soon, but only after clearing the suspicions. If not, she would have to pay for bail, which she couldn't afford since she didn't have that huge sum of money.
Maame U had no option but to leave. She was accompanied by another policeman whom Inspector Evans had told to accompany her. She walked slowly as she exited the police building.
Detective Philip arrived at the regional police building with Yaw. They got out of the Uber and entered the building.
Detective Philip looked undeniably handsome in a black fitted turtleneck, paired with a sleek black shirt and tight trousers, complemented by an edgy undercut shave.
Which had Yaw captivated from the moment they finished dressing at the hotel, lingering through the Uber ride until they reached their destination.
Heading towards the reception area, Detective Philip found his gaze involuntarily drawn to a woman with red, puffy eyes, indicative of recent tears. She donned a faded blue dress and had dishevelled permed hair, moving slowly towards the exit, accompanied by a police officer.
Detective Philip," a call to his name interrupted his gaze fixed on the woman. Shifting his attention, he regarded the man in the police uniform—an average-height individual with a prominent nose visibly affected by the detective's presence. Peter, compelled by the detective's aura, spoke up, "I've been instructed to escort you to Inspector's office as soon as you arrive."
Detective Philip assessed him from head to toe, casually sliding his hands into his side pockets.
Detective Philip's scrutiny left Peter visibly uneasy.
"If I may ask, how did you discern that I'm the detective you'll be escorting?" Detective Philip inquired, leaving Peter standing there utterly confused, earning a pitiful gaze from Yaw.
Peter stood there, appearing foolish, just staring at the tall man.
"I, uh, searched you up—no, I mean, you're among the best detectives, so it's not hard to identify you," he finally managed to speak visibly embarrassed.
Detective Philip chuckled, a self-assured gleam in his eyes, as he found the young policeman's confusion rather charming.
"Ah, I see. There's more I'd like to delve into regarding this 'search-up net' mystery, but time is precious. Lead the way, Peter," he said, flashing a knowing smile that hinted at hidden secrets. At that moment, it seemed Detective Philip was well aware of his allure, leaving Peter admiring him with an unspoken fascination.
Detective Philip, accompanied by Yaw and Peter, entered Inspector Evans' old, small, and somewhat messy office. Peter saluted Inspector Evans before hastily exiting the room.
Inspector Evans greeted Detective Philip with a happy grin, "Long time no see."
"I just arrived last month in Ghana to solve the Assembly Man's case," Detective Philip shrugged, his keen eyes scanning the office. "Oh, that case! I heard about it. I was quite shocked at how you were able to gather the clues and wrap it up. But, well, when it's you, we shouldn't be shocked, right?" Inspector Evans chuckled.
Inspector Evans noticed the young man accompanying Detective Philip and asked curiously, "And who is that young man?"
"Oh, him? He's my boyfriend. I'm the jealous type; I can't leave him in Kumasi as I come here, you know, so I kinda dragged him with me," Detective Philip said casually.
Yaw's eyes widened, and his heart began to pound upon hearing Detective Philip's answer including Inspector Evans, who just uttered an "oh."
Detective Philip, observing both of their expressions, burst out laughing. "Oh, just kidding," he managed to say amidst his laughter. "He just finished his degree in criminal investigation and decided to do his attachment under me, of course, for which I took a huge sum of money to allow."
"Here you go again with your silly jokes," Inspector Evans said, taking a seat.
Detective Philip followed suit, settling into his chair. His gaze lingered on Yaw, who was still standing, evidently not yet recovered from the shock of Detective Philip's playful revelation. Clearing his throat, Detective Philip caught Yaw's attention, prompting him to pull out a chair and sit beside his mentor.
Before Inspector Evans could delve into their business, the rhythmic click of heels echoed in the office. Inspector Evans looked up and saw Detective Elena entering, accompanied by a distinguished middle-aged man.
"You didn't mention we'd have visitors, Evans," Detective Philip said with a smile, rising to bow before the two newcomers.
"Detective Elena and..." Detective Philip raised an eyebrow, prompting the middle-aged man to provide his name. "Detective William," the middle-aged man supplied. "Oh, and Detective William," Detective Philip added. He then gallantly pulled out a chair for Elena and instructed Yaw to offer his seat to Detective William. As they settled into their seats.
"So, he's taking over Rexford Osei's case?" Detective Elena snorted.
"Well, would you like to take that up? Maybe I'd prefer the Josh case; it seems like an easy one, you know," Detective Philip said, seemingly unaffected by Detective Elena's comment.
"You're to look into the prisoner's murder, Elena," Inspector Evans stated sternly.
"I know; I heard of it this morning," Detective Elena answered.
"Why don't we exchange, huh? I'd gladly take whatever prisoner thing you're talking about. Since it's a prisoner murder case, the murderer is still there in the prison. Let me take it; it will make my whole work simpler here in Accra," Detective Philip suggested, batting his eyes to convince Inspector Evans.
Inspector Evans, tired of their bickering, sighed. "Philip, the order was for you to take Rexford's case, Detective William to take the young man Josh's case, and Elena to look into the prisoner's murder with Superintendent Joe."
There was silence for a few seconds before Detective William broke it. "So, that's settled."
