Chapter 14 - LONG TIME CRUSH

Returning to his office to retrieve his keys, Detective Philip encountered Yaw engrossed in serious notetaking. Amused by Yaw's intensity, he couldn't help but stifle a chuckle.

When Yaw sensed his master's presence he got ready to share what he found.

"I've got the information," Yaw reported, ready to share his findings. "He wasn't here that night. Nate Oppong and Peter Adjei were on duty. With the surveillance cameras, he..."

Detective Philip, interrupting him, posed an unexpected question, "Do you know how to drive, Yaw?"

A surprised Yaw replied, "Um, yes, sir," a hint of a smile crossed his face as he envisioned piloting Detective Philip's Maybach.

"Good. Get ready; we have somewhere to be," declared Detective Philip. Observing the gleam in Yaw's eyes, he swiftly addressed the unspoken desire, "But you're not driving my baby Maybach. Don't worry;  you'll be driving a flashy car. You'll love it. Now, let's move," he directed, and they exited the building.

"This is where the body was found," Elvis said, pointing to the ground behind the prison about 10 feet away, as Detective William observed the scene.

Detective William inquired, "And this spot is outside the coverage of the surveillance cameras, correct?"

"Yes," confirmed Elvis.

Curious about the immediate response to the discovery, Detective William asked, "What safety measures or protocols did you initiate when you found the body?"

"We sent the body to the lab. As I mentioned earlier, some of his organs were missing. Let's head to my office; I'll provide you with the results of the post-mortem," Elvis suggested, leading the way.

As they proceeded, commotion in the prison compound drew their attention. A group of people appeared to be involved in a scuffle, but Elvis dismissed it, saying, "Leave them be; they always do this."

Upon reaching the office, Elvis handed Detective William the papers that Joe had instructed him to provide.

As Detective William perused the documents, he noted, "So, his name was Dede Gyan, a 36-year-old man. Whom do you suspect, Mr. Elvis?"

"I genuinely don't know who would commit such an act. Could it have been one of his fellow inmates?" Elvis questioned in return.

Detective William pondered and replied, "I'd like to meet his closest friends during his time here and ask them some questions."

"Alright, no problem. I'll gather them here if you'll allow me," Elvis offered.

"Sure, I can wait," Detective William said, a hint of a smile on his face.

Before Elvis left, Detective William halted him with a question, "Is this the first time such an incident has occurred?"

Elvis hesitated briefly before answering, "I don't know how to answer that. Three days before discovering this body, we found drops of blood in the same spot. Superintendent Joe advised us to withhold information until he investigated further. That's why it wasn't disclosed to the public."

"Understood. I'll be waiting," Detective William nodded, contemplating the unfolding mystery with a focus on safety protocols.

Tamsin settled into her breakfast, savouring the crunch of her cereals while engrossed in the television show, "Ante Naa," where people candidly aired their life grievances. Her younger sister, Victoria took a seat beside her, causing the couch to sink slightly under their combined weight.

"Cereals?" Tamsin offered, speaking with her mouth full, creating a muffled tone.

"Nah, I'm good. Thanks, though," Victoria casually declined the offered food."

"Where's Thomas?" Victoria inquired, prompting a casual shrug from Tamsin.

"Probably at the bar lounge, I assume," Tamsin replied.

"He must be drunk by now. Go pull him from there before he destroys himself," Victoria requested.

"Can't you go pull him yourself, Vicky? I'm tired of Thomas," Tamsin sighed, casting a reassuring gaze at her distressed sister. "Everything will be fine, I promise. Have you had lunch?"

"Nope. You?" Vicky responded.

"Can't you see I'm eating?" Tamsin retorted.

"But that's not lunch, Tasmin."

"Sh..." Tamsin was cut off by the doorbell ringing. Victoria rose to answer it.

As the door opened, a tall, dark man with a charismatic smile greeted her. "Um, how may I help you?" Victoria asked, immediately noticing he wasn't alone but accompanied by a timid man, presumably around four years older than her 21 years.

"Oh, I'm Detective Philip. I'm here as one of my crucial pieces of evidence is stuck here," he explained. Victoria was puzzled at his words.

"Who is it, Vicky?" Tamsina's voice called from a distance as she approached.

"Hey, Philip," Tasmina greeted, as she smiled, her eyes sparkling with joy upon seeing him.

"I can see you haven't changed," Detective Philip complimented.

"What? No, I've gained some weight, in the right places, of course," Tamsin said, her voice carrying a sultry allure. leaving Vicky staring at her sister in surprise.

"Well, I was just telling your younger, beautiful sister that I came to fetch evidence concerning your father's... um, sorry, I didn't offer my condolences," Detective Philip apologized.

"It's okay, Phil. Get in. I'll get you a drink and we—" Tamsina began, attempting to convince Philip.

"I don't have much time, Tasmina. I would like to retrieve the car that was sent here the night your father died. I learned it was a Mercedes-Benz. Can you get it for me?" Philip requested.

"Um, sure, but are you sure you wouldn't like a drink? It's been a while, and we can catch up," Tamsin insisted, attempting to persuade Philip.

"Another time, Tasmin. Now is not the right time. Is Thomas in?" Philip asked.

"Yes. Would you like to see him? Let's go. He's at the bar lounge. Follow me," Tamsin said.

"Tasmina, I said another time. Just greet him and get the keys for me," Philip urged.

"Alright. I'm not sure where the keys are. I'll go and search for them.," Tamsin replied.

"It's in Thomas's room, in his drawer," Vicky chimed in.

"How did you... never mind. Give me a moment," She uttered before stepping into her brother's room to search for the key, following the direction her little sister had pointed out.

" Couldn't see the phone," Tasmina said as she handed the key to Detective Philip.

"Don't worry I'll come by another time to collect it you can search for it or perhaps ask Thomas." Detective Philip said.

Upon receiving the key, Yaw inquired, "Where are we sending the car, sir?"

"Just follow my car, Yaw," Detective Philip directed, making his way to his Maybach

Yaw took the wheel of the late Regional officer's Mercedes-Benz, following Detective Philip.

Detective Philip then drove out of the house as he waved at Tamsin, who couldn't help but admire her long-time crush.
