While I sat back and thought about the deep kiss I had shared with the love of my life, she walked down the aisle with another. My mind replayed her 'I love you' over and over again. She had finally admitted to it and I would have had my fairy tale if it weren't for the plan.
When Henry and Anna returned from the wedding, they ran towards me to hug me.
"Well, how was it? The wedding of the decade?" I asked.
"It was so sad. Let me tell you what happened. Brace yourself for it. When we reached the venue, I asked Henry to wait outside while I checked up on Anna. I entered her chambers and I found her on the floor, having a complete meltdown, shattered, crying like it was the end of the world. I held her tight and tried to comfort her but it just made her cry more. I asked her to calm down. She started screaming about how she really didn't want this for herself. I feared that someone would hear us so I grabbed her hand tighter and asked her if she wanted to take a step back and run. When she heard me, she immediately let go off my hand. She said that she wanted to be a better person before she came running to you. she wanted to earn you and earn your respect. She said that there was no way she would return to you without your best friend and your sister. There was no way she would choose herself over all those women again. I hugged her again but I knew by then that there was absolutely nothing I could do to comfort that broken heart. I helped her wear the wedding gown. She looked like an angel. She looked like the sky when it is having its prettiest morning. She looked like the doors of heaven. She looked like someone you deserve Neil. She asked me to clip her veil in such a way that it covered her face. Even though her make up was absolutely flawless and the mask she wore covered her identity, she wanted her face hidden. She told me there was no way for her to face that monster and not cry. I alerted her that she was meant to go home with him. Her eyes numbed with pain. She reassured me that she was aware of her situation but she wasn't ready to face it all. I did as she asked me and clipped her veil in such a way that her beauty was hidden. She tried to hide her pain and tears from me but I knew her heart was shattering. She said she was ready. The monster was waiting on the other end of the aisle."
Henry interrupted, "are you sure you want to know more, Neil?"
"I am sure. Please continue Anna. I need to know what she is going through. I have to face it."
"The game master had asked me to walk her down the aisle beforehand. I held her arm as the music began. Every woman dreams of this exact moment their entire life. Every woman wishes to see their man in tears as they watch their beautiful bride enter. I am sure it must have felt like hell to Daisy. She held strong. The aisle felt long, like a long path that led to the gates of hell. The beautiful decoration and the mesmerizing view of the location couldn't make that path heavenly. The man standing at the end of the aisle was enough to ruin everything. I regretfully handed over Daisy to the game master. He held her hand as the wedding rituals and promises began. After the ' I do', everything went downhill. Let me quote what the game master said,
'Welcome all loved ones. I am sure you are all waiting for the kiss between the bride and groom. Well, I have a surprise for you all. This beautiful young lady here is about to wed me. She will rule over all of you by my side. There will however be an exception. While my identity remains a secret, my bride's face will be unveiled today. Honey, be a dear and lift your veil so that I can unmask you.'
All the guests awaited eagerly to find out who was behind that mask. Whispers started getting louder. Daisy wasn't moving. I nudged her shoulder. She whispered to me that she didn't want this. She begged the game master to let her identity be a secret. He ordered her to do as he said since she was now his wife. I had no say in the matter whatsoever. The game master ordered me to take off her veil. I had no option left. I carefully unpinned Daisy's veil. Her mask was covering up the fear in her eyes and tears she had bled because of her troubles. The game master asked me to step aside. He said,
'That will be all. Now let me handle my wife. She is my property now. She will be unmasked by me. Come on darling don't be shy. Show the true face behind the evil ruling beside me. Show these peasants their queen.'
Daisy stepped back and tried to stop him but he held her arm tight. I am pretty sure he was hurting her. She gave in. the game master forcefully unmasked her. Everyone was staring at her. Her eyes were swollen because od all the crying. Her make up was ruined completely. She tried to hold it all in but her tears won't stop presenting themselves. The game master said
'Well. Meet your queen Daisy. I know she might look a little messy right now but it has been an overwhelming day for all of us. Wipe your tears darling, we don't want anyone to think you are weak now do we? Everyone knows who you are now. You are mine forever.'
With these words, he held her hand and took her to his chambers. Eventually all the guests left. I am sorry Neil. None of us could've guessed this would happen."
Anna's words hit me hard. I said, "you know what Anna, we all could've guessed this would happen. We all could've saved her. We were selfish about our agenda and we just sacrificed her life. we did this. We just killed her. I can't live with this. I think we made a huge mistake."
