Chapter 40 - The Mansion Of Nightmares

I knew who I was about to face. I knew this could be my end. I felt a jolt of excitement in finally facing the one I had been talking about for centuries. I knew I was supposed to be afraid but it felt good to face my investigation head on.

The man who had brought me here said, "listen very carefully. The game master has specifically ordered us to bring you here unharmed. We have followed our order. I am going to slowly remove this curtain from your face and I need you to remain calm. Any quick movements and I will be forced to break the one rule I have been asked to follow. I am going to unveil you and you will do as I say post that. Understood?"

I nodded my head. I knew for a fact that even if I did express a need to run, the man before me wouldn't harm me if he was asked not to. I knew by now that all the pawns in the game master's league would never dare break a rule, he strictly asked them to obey. However, I decided to comply to his orders as well because I didn't want to mess up this opportunity.

The man took off the cloth restricting my vision. My eyes narrowed because of the sudden light that struck them. My eyes had been closed for a while and they forgot how light felt when it hit them. After a moment of adaptation, I looked around. I found myself in a huge mansion. There were black walls with golden rims all around me. There was a water fountain with red water pumping out of it. To say the least, the game master's mansion was exactly as I imagined. It was dark and mysterious yet rich and elegant. Even Henry and Anna had never been here. I wondered if Daisy was present at the moment. I wondered if she knew about my presence here. I wondered if the game master had figured out my plan and that is why I had been called here. I wondered if she was okay. An eerie silence surrounded me.

In a mansion this big, any one would be driven mad by the anguish of being lonely. I sympathized with the game master's ordeal. He must have been so lonely. I guess that is why he couldn't resist having Daisy to himself. She was a beautiful divine woman who he could have easily used for his mission but he chose to let her live with him. Marrying her was a bit extreme but it was what he wanted. I finally broke the silence and said, "hello? Who's there?"

The man screamed, "what do you think you are doing? You can't speak here without his permission. You are going to get me into trouble too. Just keep your mouth shut and wait for him."

I replied, "I don't work for anyone and thus I won't be following stupid rules. I don't even know who I am waiting for. Is he a king or something? Why are you so afraid of him?"

The man said, "I asked you to shut your mouth. He is our ruler and I am his loyal servant. I won't ask nicely again. Keep quiet!"

I said, "I am confused why he has this fetish to make everyone his servant. Is he into weird sexual stuff? This sounds so creepy. Okay I guess I will help you serve your master, whatever that means. I will keep quiet. Can you at least ask him to be quick?"

The man groaned at me. I carefully examined what my eyes could see. I tried to find clues regarding the divine women but the mansion felt empty like the game master's heart. Would I ever be able to save all those women now that I was trapped here? It must be so lonely for Daisy. This place resembled hell in every way. i know she might get the luxurious clothes and the luxurious food but nothing could ever make up for the emptiness this place brought her.

I was sure this was my last day and I wanted it to be a useful one. I felt helpless once again knowing that even if I did find a clue, I would never be able to tell it to my friends. I would die with all that information. I found it weird why the game master wanted to kill me in person. Was it another weird fetish he had? He could have easily sent one of his minions to kill me and the pawns of my college would have disposed off my body and found a replacement. It would been so easy for him. he wouldn't even have to waste his time on meeting me. I was sure there was some hidden truth in what I knew. My heart started to race. I couldn't take the destructive silence anymore. I finally said, "look man. I don't even know who you are. I know a little about the missing women and that's it. If the game master is just going to kill me, why don't you just do it. I can't handle all this anxiety. The wait is too long. I don't think any one is home. This place is quite haunting you have to admit. I am sure you understand how I feel because you too are stuck, just like me. They have someone you love right? Trust me this never ends. Just help me please."

The man laughed, "my master doesn't have anything of mine except my loyalty. I look up to hm and I won't be caught talking to his enemies so I request you to help me by keeping your mouth shut. He is going to be here soon."

I was so annoyed at this point that I decided to take a seat on the floor itself. I couldn't handle all the anxiety any more. The floor was cold. It was cleaner than my cleanest piece of clothing. The man looked at me in disbelief. I heard steps. I think he was finally here. That's when I heard, "welcome Mr. Neil, to the land of your nightmares."
