Chapter 20 - The White Room

The barrier in the limo was indeed not sound proof. The driver was recording every information we were giving him. He was a spy, the game master's own little pet. My fear had come to life as I watched them drag away Henry. I heard a knock at my door. The drain pipe was my only choice. As I opened the window and started going down the drain pipe, finding my way to run away from here, I watched a few of the masked men gather underneath the pipe as well. The knocks grew louder and my distance towards the floor where they were waiting for me like hungry dogs grew shorter. Amidst all this, I could only see one truth. There was no escape, no plan at all. Nothing could save me. no one would be left alive to save the women we had lost. Their only hope walked towards the angel of death. I slid down the pipe. My hands were hurting for holding on too long. In the same limo that caused all this, Henry and I were thrown onto the seats like dirty bags of garbage being disposed. Anna was there too, tied up by ropes made up of black lace. The game master must have thought it was poetic to let her have her aesthetic even if she was about to be painted red in blood.

I looked at Henry in terror as I tried to scream through the piece of cloth tied around my mouth. Henry and Anna joined me. They looked like beat up chicken on its way to the restaurant where it was about to be cut open and devoured. The air conditioner had been turned off. The cold night we had expected in the beginning of the night was turning out to be a hot one. It felt as if the red-hot flames of the sun were on the game master's side. Even in the middle of the night, it felt as if the sun had personally showed up at the game master's door to help him torture us. It was dark inside the limo. The black tint on the glass hardly let any light in. The driver would peak through the window every now and then, giving us a devilish smile. He must have been proud of himself to have found out the mole amidst his game master's team. He surely expected a promotion, a praise of some kind, to reward him for doing his work.

When the limo finally came to a stop, we started screaming again, increasing the sound of our agitation with every breathe. The door opened and a bright light shined upon us. We were dragged out the car like children and placed at the center of the lit-up room. The room had white walls and white floors, as if it were themed up to match the limo. The red it was about to be tinged with would give it the pop of color it really needed. I accepted my fate as I gulped down my fear. I had to look strong. I couldn't give the pawns the satisfaction they would get at every tear I wasted on them. They had been turned to stone by the game master. They had been brain washed into believing that they were on the right side of the competition. There would, however, be no competition left once we were all murdered here in cold blood.

Amidst all the fear and act of confidence, I saw them. My best friend Sammy and my sisters, Emilia and Jane. The love of my life Daisy stood before me. Their hands were tied up just like ours. Their mouth was taped, refusing to let them speak to me. Their eyes were teared up, as they too accepted their fate. There was a loud bang. The smoke from the gun still went up after I watched the light disappear from Jane's eyes. She was the first to go. They mercilessly murdered every single person I had ever loved right in front of my eyes. I screamed my lungs out but the brutal pawns had to continue in order to stay alive. I was going insane as one of the pawns held me down to watch the only member of my family left alive to be killed. Emilia was the youngest and smartest and I had lost her too. Sammy didn't move. She didn't try to run. She didn't shut her eyes out of fear or turn her head away from the gun's nozzle. She faced the killer with confidence. It felt as if she was smiling. She was strong even in death. She was the strongest. I watched her fall to the ground. It was a greater loss than ever. My whole world came crashing down. I had lost the only person in the world who ever understood me. If there were an afterlife, I wished I could spend it with her. I wished I could have met her one last time. I wished I could have told her how much I loved her.

Daisy, Henry and Anna were all killed one by one. With only me left as their last target, I decided to embrace death, just like Sammy did. When I saw them keep the gun aside, I was in shock. That's when one of the pawns said, "the game master wishes you an eternity of hell. You will never be able to live with yourself after what you have seen today. Just know one thing for sure, we will never let you die. You will grow old and grow miserable but you will never get them back. you killed them, Neil. Now try to live with that line stuck in your head forever. Leave him here. Take the bodies. It is a pizza night, good word boys!"

The miserable life I would live would have haunted me. I screamed myself awake, realizing with relief and reliving the pain in my heart from the shock I had just lived, it was all but a dream. A nightmare that would never let you sleep well for the rest of your life.
