Chapter 10 - Friend (3)

Once I was in the alley behind the bookstore, I started pulling out a few things from my pockets.

These were things that I had prepared a long time ago just in case I ever needed to help the main characters.

This time, it was some wool, some wood chips, and a match.

Though it did seem dangerous to do something like this, there was no choice since this was the best way to handle this matter.

With a bit of regret, I lit the match and set the fire. But I made sure that this fire would die out on its own and wouldn't cause any harm at all.

Once the match was lit, I immediately ran back to the main street and stood at the entrance of the bookstore as I shouted, "Fire! Fire!"

With the smoke that came from the alley and my screams, people immediately started to notice the fire and they all started to run. The ones in the bookstore were no different as they immediately evacuated the bookstore.

The old man spider had tried to take a few of them hostage when he saw them running off, but Yan Huang stopped him from doing this.

In the end, it was only Yan Huang and the old man spider that were left in the bookstore.

But there was a moment where Yan Huang was distracted…

"Isn't that Lin Fan's voice?" Yan Huang couldn't help muttering to himself.

The old man spider took advantage of this to…not attack, but run. He knew that he was in a bad position being trapped in the bookstore with Yan Huang like this, so he didn't hesitate to jump out the window.

There were some people that were surprised by the window suddenly breaking, but they didn't notice the old man spider at all.

Yan Huang was snapped out of his daze when he heard the window being broken.

Under his breath, Yan Huang cursed, "Damn it." However, he immediately ran out the door and chased after the old man spider.

The old man spider didn't stay in the shopping district and ran off in a different direction.

While there would be hostages, too many witnesses wasn't what he wanted.

So he didn't hesitate to run from Yan Huang.

Yan Huang took one quick look around before chasing after the old man spider.

As he looked around, it was as if he had been looking for something.

I knew that, so I hid in the crowd.

I knew that raising my voice like this would certainly get Yan Huang's attention, so I hid myself in the crowd so that he wouldn't find me. At the same time, I was avoiding the police and firefighters that had shown up since I was the one that had started the fire.

Once Yan Huang left, I quickly ran in the direction that the two of them headed off in.

It didn't take long for me to arrive at the spot they chose for their battle.

It was a river bank.

As expected of a main character, of course he would choose a river back for a showdown.

On that river back, the old man spider and Yan Huang were standing opposite each other.

There was no one else around, so it was hard for me to find a place to hide. However, I was able to find a tree to climb up into to hide and watch over the battle.

Yan Huang and the old man spider didn't attack each other, they just stood there glaring at the opposite side as if they were staring each other down.

Finally, it was the old man spider that suddenly spoke as he revealed a smile and said, "You never expected a trap like this, did you?"

Yan Huang didn't say anything in response, but the look on his face made it clear that he was bothered by something.

I couldn't help being confused until I took a closer look.

As I looked more closely, I found that there was something that seemed to be glowing that was in the air.

It seemed like some kind of very thin thread that was hanging in the air.

This was…a spider's thread?

That was why Yan Huang wasn't moving at all.

The old man spider monster didn't just have spider limbs, but could also shoot webs like a spider.

These webs were hard to see, so they wouldn't be discovered right away.

Before Yan Huang had caught up to the old man spider, it had already placed webs all around itself in a net. It was just waiting there for Yan Huang to run into that net to trap him.

So right now, there were many different spider webs that were around Yan Huang, preventing him from moving.

The old man spider didn't care that Yan Huang didn't say anything.

Rather, he embraced it and started monologuing like a proper villain.

"It seems that the Qilin's Descendant really isn't as the rumours say. It seems that you're quite easy to deal with." The old man spider revealed an evil smile as he said this.

But Yan Huang still remained silent.

Though, the look on his face made it clear that he wasn't giving up and was looking for a way out of this situation.

The old man spider felt a bit annoyed seeing this, so he decided to taunt Yan Huang a bit.

"It seems that the Qilin's Descendant is quite good at acting cool, but I wonder if you can remain cool if I tell you something."

Yan Huang couldn't help knitting his brows when the old man spider gave a dramatic pause.

Seeing this look on Yan Huang's face, the old man spider's evil smile became wider as he said, "After we take care of you, we're planning on taking out all those that are related to you. Nothing good comes from leaving behind loose ends, don't you think?"

Yan Huang's eyes narrowed and he glared at the old man spider when he heard this.

The old man spider gave a shiver as he felt a chill run down his spine, but he forced himself to stay calm as he looked at Yan Huang.

In a voice that had a slight tremble to it, he said, "The first one is…someone called Lin Fan? I've heard that you're quite close to…"

Before the old man spider could finish, Yan Huang suddenly said, "Huh? What did you just say?"
