The satisfied smile of James that made him realize the safety of his parents was misunderstood by the neighbor and his mother right after hearing the father-son conversation.
"Ahem!"
"So when did all this start, huh? " Her eyes were sparkling with expectations, while the neighbor was going to faint from all the blushing.
After hearing those words from his mother, he had no choice but to give a cold reply, "No. There's nothing going on between us. We. Are. Just. Friends!" and switched on the radio. Even after changing dozens of channel, there was no broadcast going on.
"Hey, son. There is still time for the broadcasting of news channels. Why are you mashing the buttons right after disrespectfully talking to your mother."
*Static Voice Over the broadcast*
"This *buzz* is a *buzz* national emergency! Citizens should close their house and not take a step, *buzz* outside. There has been an epidemic causing the people to go berserk and attacking each other…I t is suggested that people stay at home and wait for *buzz* who are you? Hey, what is that in your hands? *Buzz* Security! what are you doing? Hey! I'm talking to you! D-Don't come near me! Ahhhhhhhhh! Save meee!"
After hearing the broadcast, everyone was confused beyond reason. His father questioned him, "What is happening outside, Son?"
The neighbor was terrified after hearing the broadcast
James explained,"The berserk people out there are…zombies!" and paused his speech after looking at Alita.
Johnny asked "Huh!? Zombies!?" after the pause but before he could say anything else, there were distant explosions that can be heard from their house and choppers roaming.
James told everyone to lock the doors and windows while running around the house, turning off the lights. His parents followed the commands without any questions. It didn't take much time to turn the whole house into a dark room.
"Son, please explain to us what's happening, and why did you mention zombies? Aren't they just fictional."
"Mom, they were fictional till tomorrow, but now they are alive somehow. I can't explain much, but I assure that all of us will be safe."
Her mother questioned Alita, "Dear Alita, is what he's saying the truth?"
Before Alita could say anything, there were countless screams audible outside their house. James pointed a finger on her mouth, telling everyone to keep quiet.
The screams were not audible after a few minutes, but there were only snarling and growling zombies. James's father spoke softly with a quiet manner and pointed towards their door.
There was a shadow visible in the light downside their door. It stood there for a couple of minutes and went away growling.
After the zombies were not audible, Alita explained every single detail but kept the part where James killed the zombie a secret.
"Everyone, listen to me." asked James with a cold look on his face. His father questioned him, interrupting him,"No! We will wait for the military to come over and rescue us, and before that we will spend the night in this living room."
Everyone agreed to him including James, and they all were in a hurry collecting the supplies and managing the beds but quietly.
When everyone fell asleep, James went inside the Library and checked out the quest completion alerts he ignored earlier on.
Right after his command, "System, show me the alerts." there were three pop-ups of the quest completion.
"Congratulations, Host! You have completed the hidden quest. Please check the Reward."
"Congratulations, Host! You have completed your first quest. Please check the Reward."
"You have completed two quests at the same time. The probability of receiving a high rank skill will be increased once."
James was excited about the rewards, so without wasting any time, he opened both of them at the same time. The sound of beginners lucky draw was similar to that of a pinball machine.
*Ding,* "You have received the SSS-rank skill 'Spiritual Devour'."
*Ding,* "You have received the F-rank skill 'Three Style Boxing'."
"Skill name-Spiritual devour
Rank-SSS
Description-It will increase the absorption rate of all kinds of energies to the maximum."
"Skill name-Three Style Boxing
Rank-F (Evolvable)
Description-Any damage dealt will be experienced three times the original value. It will grow along with the host."
After the skills were received, a huge amount of information was entering James's head, which made him lose consciousness.
After losing his consciousness, he saw the scene of his parents getting bit and telling him to run away. As soon as he dashed towards his parents to save them, he woke up and saw his parents sitting in front of him quietly.
Mother was shocked by the broadcast already, but she still asked, "How was your sleep, son?"
James already knew her condition from the tone of her voice. "It was fine, mom." After this small conversation between the mother and son, father threw a bunch of magazines and duct tapes toward both of them. "Wrap yourself tight and don't get bitten, we're going out."
"Father, why are we going outside."
"Son, we are out of food."
James knew that his father would do this as soon as he woke up because his father was an Ex-military officer before an office clerk.
He had no choice but to agree,"Aye, Captain."
They discussed for half an hour about how to avoid the zombies and bring resources from the nearest mall. James remembered that there was a sudden zombie breakout in the mall and convinced his father to let him go alone.
His father was enraged, "Do you think I can't help?!"
James had to reply, "No, father. It's just that there should be someone to protect the house." because he knew this reason could stop his father from arguing about the mall.
His father gave him a kitchen knife, telling him, "If we had a gun, I would be less worried. Make it back safely."
James had a sudden fire of confidence and fearlessness lit in his eyes and replied, "Sure."
He walked slowly towards the main door and Alita gave him a surgical knife, stopping him in the middle of the living room, but he refused, telling her, "You'll need something to protect yourself too."
He opened the door quietly, watching the surroundings from his window. All that he could see was black smokes from the buildings, Half burned vehicles to broken windows and military choppers roaming in the sky.
He had only one thing to speak of the scenery before his eyes.
"I will not make the same mistakes again."
