Chapter 1 - The Package

Isaac was just a normal person. He didn't really have friends and all he did was go to work and then go home every day. He lived with his sister and her boyfriend. Working at a grocery store his days were very monotonous repeating the same tasks every day. The only thing that made his boring life easier was the joy he got from reading and learning new stuff.

All day at work he listened to audiobooks on anything that interested him. When he got home he sat in his room and spent his days reading before going to bed and restarting it all the next day.

One of his main interests was magic and witchcraft hoping that he could use magic like in the books he read but no matter what he tried nothing worked so he gave up on it.

Every time he got paid he would order more books to read. His room was covered with stacks of books from floor to ceiling and it was dangerous to walk through the room because you might accidentally take a wrong step and have a tower of books fall over on you. Isaac learned that the hard way multiple times but he simply restacked the books and moved on.

One day his roommate let him know that he received a package in the mail he went to collect it thinking it was just another book that he had ordered.

Opening up the package it was a thick book looking quite old inside with no title on the book whatsoever but Isaac decided to read it anyways.

Cracking open the book he saw that it was completely empty. Looking confused he saw words begin appearing on the page and as they appeared Isaac read.

"You oh child born with a love of books you have been selected as the keeper of the library. We await your arrival eagerly as the library cannot exist without a keeper. You oh child born with a lover of words we wish you will accept our offer and take your place somewhere you will truly belong. "

It was short but Isaac read it many times over in shock and confusion. How was he supposed to reach this library if there are no instructions.

As if on cue the book pages began to flip open fluttering without Isaac touching them. The book reached the end and as it did a slight shimmer appeared as a key materialized. The key looked like a rusty iron key with a circle at the top and an open book in the middle.

Grabbing the key Isaac inspected it and as he did the book in his hand seemed to turn into particles of light before disappearing.

He was really confused still on what to do so he spent a while trying to figure out what to do from holding on to the key and trying to meditate trying to follow books he read on how to use mana or qi or whatever energy. After awhile of nothing happening he decided to try something else.

Going around his house he spent a while trying to put the key into every lock and trying to turn it but nothing happened.

Heading back to his room he grumbled about not having enough instructions and being clueless but maybe this was like a test.

He kept trying to figure out what to do looking at the key for a hidden mechanism or something but there was nothing.

He remembered about a fantasy book he read where they had magic keys that did different effects. So deciding to try what they did in the book he held the key out into the empty air in front of him. Moving the key around he didn't feel anything until suddenly he heard the sound of metal hitting metal. He kept moving the key around till it felt like it slotted into a lock. Giving the key a twist he let go as the empty space in front of him seemed to open up like a door into a black void with a pathway.

He barely hesitated to walk through the doorway as it closed up behind him and the key seemed to disappear.

Walking down the pathway he didn't see much except emptiness and the glowing white pathway underneath him. Walking on and on he felt like he wasn't making any progress until he finally managed to see a door in the distance.

Rushing his way to the door he opened it up and found himself in a library.
