" Milo ? "
The black haired boy was woken up by his mother and realised he had fallen asleep in the car .
They were on their way to the supermarket to buy groceries, something Mom and Dad did when they were together but , Dad had gone to work , for a meeting that would last for about seven days.
That left Milo with his Mom and it had sounded like a blast but after yesterday at Ryomen's house , things were looking grim . Milo regretted coming to his house , no matter what Ryo said.
But how could he not ?
They had been together for nearly a year now and yet even though Milo's parents knew , Ryo had not ever wanted to tell his dad. Milo could count the times Ryo called him over to his house only when his dad was not around, and Milo never even went inside sometimes . They'd just hang by the outdoor pool in the back yard .
" Milo ?! " His mother said giving him a pinch on the cheek and the boy was taken out from his thoughts .
" Sorry Mom. " He said rubbing his cheek .
" That's the third time you've been distracted since getting in the car . Even at home yesterday you looked like you hadn't had fun at Ryomen's house. " She said, " I know I asked you if something was wrong and you said you were fine ,but after calling you for nearly ten minutes , I know something is wrong . "
" It is . But i dont want to burden you . " He said and his mother gave a huff.
" Oh come on, I'm your mother. You were a burden when you were a baby inside me but now you're outside and I'm not carrying you." Mrs Saki said , " A bit of small talk won't break my back. I could help."
Milo sighed knowing she was not going to quit and that she was right.
" Mom, do you ever think about what you're life would be like if you and Dad did not work things out? " He asked her and she was quick to laugh.
" I'm sorry, I'm sorry. " She said as Milo pouted," It's just I was not expecting that."
" But I'm serious...did you? " He asked again and this time his mother gave a slight pause to think.
" Yes...once in a while. " She said softly and gave a small smile.
" Do you...think you'd be happ- "
" What did Ryo do? "
" What!? Nothing! " He said as his mother gave him a dangerous frown.
" Oh? Ok...then why do sound like that? " She asked him with concerned eyes.
" Like what? "
" Like a bride having second thoughts after saying ' I do '." She said and Milo's cheeks blossomed pink.
" Mom! "
" Well you do." She said waving her hand," I just don't understand why though. If Ryo didn't hurt you- "
" I don't feel good enough. " Milo said with a sigh," Everytime I go to his house, see his life...I don't even see myself fitting in. "
" You never said this before." His mother said and he shook his head.
" I didn't know I felt like this until Ryo and his Dad argued infront of me. I don't mind the family issues, I told him that months ago. But I just feel like...our relationship is going to sink.
Does that make sense? Nothing major happened but I just FEEL like it will.I want to talk to Ryo, don't think I don't. I'm just not sure how to...I'm afraid he'll think I'm having second thoughts. I am not but I'm just worried, without reason but still I'm worried and-"
" I would be selling burgers. "
" Huh? "
" If I had not had you, not married your father then I would be selling burgers." Mrs Saki said with a shrug," I was never good at school and the only real talent I had was cooking. You're grandmother said I would open a restaurant, remember? "
" Yeah. " Milo said softly.
" It is usually what my life would be in my head without you or your Dad OR Ryo. " She said," It would be nice and maybe I'd feel and be different. But, I doubt I'd be as happy as I am now. "
" Really? "
" Yes! Listen Milo, life is complicated and love is weird but remember me and your Dad aren't the typical Romeo and Juliet." She said with a chuckle," Neither are you and Ryo. But we're all happy with each other. I know you love Ryo and that Ryo loves you.
If you feel down or afraid of something, you should talk. Remember the family rule ; No lies. I'm sorry if you feel confused or worried honey, but just know I'm here and so is your Dad. Just promise me you'll talk to Ryo."
Mrs Saki's words hit home and Milo felt a wave of relief wash over him. His mother's advice made him feel so much better and he decided right there and then that he'd try to stop worrying and talk to Ryomen.
" Now let's go buy food. We've been parked here for nearly ten minutes. " His mother said and Milo remembered that they'd come to the supermarket.
Looking out of the window, he saw that they were in a parking lot. The sun beat overhead and yellow leafed trees stood around. His mother gave a smile and opened the door going out if the car.
Milo smiled and opened the door, but as he walked behind the car , another vehicle, with no care about people zoomed by.
Mrs Saki's scream echoed across the whole parking lot, and if one was to listen closely they would hear a soft chuckle.
