Chapter 39 - Julian’s sudden visit

They reached home.

"Esme…" Silas called out to her when he saw her entering her flat. 

Esme's pulse quickened. She didn't want to be apart from him. The desire to prolong their time together lingered in her mind. Excited to know what he was going to say, she turned to him. 

"I wanted to say good night," Silas said. 

Esme thought he would say something else, something romantic. But his words disappointed her. "Good night, Silas. You should rest. It's late now." She tried to sound indifferent, but her voice betrayed her annoyance.

Silas, undeterred by her grumpiness, moved in closer, his hand casually resting on the doorframe behind her. "What if I want to stay in your house?" His eyes sparkled with mischief.

Esme's excitement returned in full force. She felt a flutter in her chest. His proximity sent electric impulses through her, and she was eager to tell him not to leave. However, she found herself asking, "Why would you stay here?"
