AN: Hey everyone, I'm back! So I haven't wrote in forever as I've been recovering from laser eye surgery. I got some editing done but realized my eyes were far from ready to do much on a computer so I waited a bit until my eyes finally got ready. Now hoping to get this arc finished within the next few chapters!
Days continued as normal inside the town of Haven. Alex was still taking jobs at the mercenary guild like normal and also giving Sieg training advice on the side. Sieg had gotten used to the knife, with Alex guiding him with every movement. Sieg was even beginning to impress the other mercenaries with how quick he was learning.
One day after training Sieg by running laps around the town to improve his cardio and stamina, Alex accepted a job from the guild. It was a quick monster extermination mission. Apparently a group of undead Skeletons had taken over an old abandoned castle in the woods. Skeletons were usually created by a necromancer who used their unique type of magic to utilize the dead. However, even if the necromancer is killed, the undead they raised would still wander. Considering they had taken over an old castle, more than likely the necromancer was still alive and was there in the castle.
Alex went into the woods alone and traveled to the castle. On the outskirts, there were about a dozen or so skeletons, armed with swords and axes.
"This should be easy."
Skeletons strengths were in numbers; however, they were incredibly brittle.
Alex charged at the skeletons and sent a wave of lighting at the skeletons, already eliminating about four of them. The others outside ran towards Alex, who just used his lightning magic to shoot them from a distance. Quick, easy, and effective.
Alex strolled inside the castle with little worry. There were a few other skeletons inside, but they weren't in large groups, meaning they were extremely easy to cut down, and soon enough Alex had arrived inside what would've been the main room of the castle. It was covered in debris and vines showing the castle's age. And in the middle of the room, a guy who looked like he had to be nearly a hundred years old, face wrinkly, body more bone than anything, rotten teeth, and bloodshot eyes was looking at an old book.
The old man looked at Alex and frowned.
"Why are you here? You've ruined everything!" the old man yelled out.
"And?" Alex said. "Tell me, old man, what exactly was the gameplan here?"
"Old man? I'm twenty-seven." the man said.
"Oh..." Alex said, genuinely shocked. "I should just put you out of your misery then."
"Huh?" the man said before Alex shot lightning at the man who barely managed to create a shield in front of him.
"Ahaha, nice try! But you're pathetic; magic can't-
While the man tried to gloat, Alex quickly ran up to him and slashed his throat with his sword, causing the old man to grab his throat in order to try and stop the bleeding; however, it was pointless in the end. The man collapsed as blood spread across the ground.
"Now, what book were you reading?"
Alex looked at the book, and it was written in some language he didn't understand.
"Fuck it. Might as well burn it." Alex said as he lit a torch on fire, causing it to burn to ashes. "Job done. Let's get out of here."
Alex walked out of the old castle, but something still felt off. There was a weird feeling that he just couldn't shake. It was almost like he was being watched-
Suddenly multiple ice bullets were fired at Alex, who only barely managed to dodge, and in a counterattack, Alex shot a bolt of lightning at the tree where the bullets came from.
"So...care to introduce yourself?" Alex asked.
A figure suddenly dropped from a tree. Alex could tell they were female by their build; she also had long blue hair, bright red eyes, and a black mask covering the lower half of her face.
"So... mercenary or assassin?" Alex asked.
"..."
"Thrilling response." Alex said sarcastically.
The girl placed her hand on the ground and spikes made of ice formed in front of her and headed towards Alex, who dodged them. Alex then launched a wave of lightning at the girl who ducked below them.
The girl then ran at Alex as she covered her fists in ice and threw a punch at Alex, who quickly blocked it. The two engaged in a back and forth, with neither of them gaining any ground.
"Look, I'd rather not kill you, so if you could just tell me who sent you, we can end this and go home. Deal?" Alex asked with the girl's response being a punch to the side of his head, which he dodged. "Guess not."
Alex got serious as he channeled his lightning through his body, and his speed became enhanced. The girl didn't realize he could do this and was soon taking blows from Alex's offense.
Alex decided enough was enough and hit the girl so hard her back ended up hitting a tree. The girl couldn't move as her back was more than likely broken.
"So, about my questions." Alex said as he walked up to her. Alex took off her mask, revealing quite the beautiful girl underneath. "Hmm...so I'll ask again. Who sent you?"
The girl again didn't answer as her eyes closed.
"Damn it..." Alex said, sighing. Alex then picked the girl up in a bridal carry and walked back to the village with her in his arms, which...earned him some unique stares, to say the least. He then walked into the guild, and the receptionist gasped in confusion.
"What's going on?" The receptionist asked.
"Is there a healer in the village?"
