Chapter 53 - Chapter Fifty-One: The Attack

It was another day in the village, and Alex was helping out Sieg with his training. Sieg had really started looking up to Alex as an older brother figure, while Alex was beginning to open up more than he had in awhile. He hadn't felt this calm since his days with his mother and sister.

Regarding Claire, she had been recovering with the help of the village healer over the past few days; slowly she had begun being able to move around without wincing in pain, so Alex had an idea to have her come and help him teach Sieg.

Sieg stabbed a training dummy and an ice spike right inside of it's chest.

"You gave him a magic dagger?!" Claire asked in shock.

"Yup." Alex smirked. "He's learning how to use it pretty well."

"He's what? Nine?" Claire asked.

"I'm ten!" Sieg yelled out.

"Hey, I started training even younger than him." Alex stated. "It's good he learns young."

"I...whatever." Claire said, sighing. "So what do you plan on doing today?"

"Well, I thought we could take a job at the guild." Alex said. "After all, we're a party now."

"Sure...why not." Claire said before she turned around and headed back to the inn. "I'll just grab my stuff."

"Good." Alex said before turning to Sieg. "Now remember, mobile feet until you plan your strike."

"Right!" Sieg said happily. "Are you sure you have to go?"

Sieg stabbed the dummy again, and more ice stuck out of it.

"I do. It's the job after all, but I'll be back soon, and maybe we could spar. Claire might be down too." Alex said, smirking.

"Is she your girlfriend or something?" Sieg asked.

"She's not my girlfriend." Alex said, laughing. "We're...more acquaintances at the moment than anything."

"Oh...she's pretty." Sieg said with a slight blush.

"Oh? Got a little crush, eh?" Alex teased.

"N-No..." Sieg said, his face becoming red as a tomato.

Alex laughed. "It's okay, I won't say anything."

Alex continued to help Sieg with his technique before him and Claire set off for the job. Meanwhile, Sieg continued to train for a few more hours before heading home to his mom. Sieg happily told her about Alex's teachings, which made his mother smile. It's been awhile since she had seen him this happy. Soon Sieg's father came home, and they had a nice and relaxing dinner together. That was until...

"What's that smell?" asked Sieg's mother.

His father looked outside the window, and his facial expression said it all—something was not right.

"There's fire." His father said.

"Fire?" Sieg asked.

"Stay inside and lock the doors. Grab anything you can to defend yourselves." Sieg's father said before grabbing an old sword from the cabinet. He ran outside despite his wife and child wanting him to stay. Many of the other men of the village were outside too, armed with old swords, axes, and pitchforks. However, what they saw was something none of them were ready for.

Fifty armored men on horseback came riding into the town and cut down anybody in their way. The mercenaries at the guild were putting up a fight, but even though they were being pushed back, the armored men went house to house, killing relentlessly. Sieg's father tried to get back to his house; he wanted to get his wife and son out of there, but before he could even get close, there was a very sharp pain on his back. He had been shot with an arrow in his back shoulder and soon was cut down by one of the armored men.

"Search every house. We will find him!" one of the armored men called out.

Sieg and his mother locked themselves in one of the bedrooms, Sieg armed with his dagger and his mother having a kitchen knife. They heard screams and smelled smoke from the outside, but there wasn't anything they could do. They just had to hope Sieg's father would make it back and get them out of here. The door to their house slammed open, and the door to the bedroom shortly thereafter.

A tall, sturdy man with a long black beard and long frizzy black hair walked inside. He smiled with his rotten teeth showing.

"Well, well, well. I think I have my entertainment," the man said, licking his lips and looking at Sieg's mother. He walked up and grabbed his mother by her hair and threw her on the ground, causing the kitchen knife to slide away from her. "Now, how about we have some fun?"

Sieg ran up and stabbed the man in the thigh with his knife, causing an ice spike to shoot through his leg, making him scream in pain. "You little shit!"

The man punched Sieg in the stomach, but Sieg didn't give up and stabbed the man again, this time right in the stomach, then again right in the neck. The bearded man dropped to the ground, and Sieg took a sigh of relief...

That was when he heard more footsteps come up to the door. Three more men, all of which were just as disgusting as the man before, walked in. Sieg was terrified but refused to show any fear as he grabbed the dagger, ready to take them all on.
