--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a day like any other; the sun rose in the morning, birds chirped their songs, and morning traffic always being a pain in the ass. No different from any other day, especially for Alex. Alex was your every-day worker; he got up, went to work, sat through his usually uneventful shift, and then went home to sleep. This pattern of his repeated every weekday, with usually nothing changing. On weekends, he would normally stay at home; he wasn't exactly a social person and typically stayed to himself. He wasn't an introvert or shy, mind you; he didn't mind going out if he wanted to; the thing was, he rarely went out with some friends from work, but he liked sometimes just being alone and watching whatever came on the TV.

It was Friday, the end of the work week for Alex. Like normal, he woke up at 6 a.m., ate breakfast, showered, got dressed, and headed to his job by foot. Alex could drive, but he didn't feel like dealing with the traffic, so he decided that walking was the best way to get to work without dealing with road rage.

Alex, while waiting for a street sign to turn green as he stood at an intersection, looked around at some of the people around him. He noticed a few other people like him—office workers heading to their jobs like they do every morning. He also noticed a brown-headed girl seemingly in high school looking at her phone and listening to music through her wireless earbuds.

Seeing her school uniform reminded Alex that two years ago he went to the same school that she went to. A nearby private academy that was one of the most prestigious schools in the state. Alex had a few of his high school memories flood into his mind. Some of his old friends, old loves, and just general good times that he had.

As Alex was remembering his school days, the light turned green, and the group of people started walking. He quickly got across the street but noticed something off; only the adults had gotten across. Alex looked back at the crosswalk and saw the high school girl on her phone, either watching something or playing a game, not paying attention to her surroundings.

Alex wouldn't have paid it any mind if he hadn't seen something else cross his eyes. While Alex was your every day Joe, he had an abnormal perception of his surroundings. He noticed things that people would miss without specifically focusing on whatever was happening.

Alex noticed a semi truck with a trailer approaching the crosswalk while driving above the speed limit. Ren could see the driver, a bearded older man, maybe in his early forties, yawning with his eyes closed while driving.

"Shit, she's not paying attention." Alex thought to himself before yelling out "Hey girl! Look out!"

Alex's yelling got the attention of those around him but not the girl herself, who was still looking at her phone. The truck got ever closer, and Alex, who was now out of options, ran back across the crosswalk as fast as he could.

"Just have to make it in time!" Alex thought to himself, running towards the girl.

Once Alex arrived right in front of the girl, who was now focused on the man who ran out in front of her so suddenly she was shocked when Alex shoved her as hard as he could, pushing her back a couple feet near the sidewalk that she had started walking from.

But at that moment, there was not enough time for Alex to both get the girl out of the way and also secure his own safety.

The truck that had been speeding to the intersection hit Alex right on his side that was facing the truck, knocking Alex so far off of his feet that he flew into the middle of the intersection and even ragdolled off the hood of a nearby car driving, causing that driver to run into the barrier in the middle of the road.

This scene caused quick panic as onlookers on the sidewalk started to call emergency services to come to the intersection and drivers stopped their cars in the middle of the road.

In the street was Alex, who was barely conscious; one of his legs was now bent in the wrong direction, his right arm lacerated vertically from his upper arm down to his hand, and his forehead covered in blood.

An older man, maybe in her mid-fifties, ran out to the street next to Alex and immediately checked his pulse, trying to ask Alex if he remembered his name.

"Alex..."

But no sound came out of his mouth.

"Dammit, he's unresponsive...we need an ambulance to get here as fast as possible." the older man said.

Out of the corner of Alex's eye, he noticed the girl that he pushed out of the way and ran up near the doctor. She seemed okay and without injury, which made Alex want to smile, but he could move enough to do so. The girl had tears in her eyes, and Alex could tell she was trying to say something, but the only thing he could hear was the ever-increasing muffled noises and a ringing sound in his ear. He could no longer hear what the older man was saying to him, but he could tell the man was attempting CPR on him and ordering some nearby passersby to hold pressure on some of Alex's wounds.

"So...is this it?" Alex thought to himself, finally coming to the realization of what was happening.

Alex started to feel an ever-increasing chill from inside of his body. "Why is it so cold...?" he thought to himself.

Soon, Alex's vision started to leave him, just like his hearing. The faces of the older man and the high school girl soon completely blurred from his eyesight; he realized he was losing his sense quickly.

Alex had realized that there was no other choice but to give himself up to the sweet embrace of death.

But that was when she appeared.

A woman out of the corner of Alex's eyes, compared to everything else around him, she was clear as day. She had long, beautiful white hair that reached down to the center of her back and bright blue eyes, unlike any that Alex had ever seen. As she got closer, Alex could see more of her features. Her face held a beauty he had never seen before, and her body was so perfect that Alex thought it was too good to be true.

The woman approached Alex and knelt down right next to him, but it was almost as if the other people who were now completely blurred out of his vision didn't notice her at all.

"Are you an angel?" Alex thought to himself, seeing her.

He thought to himself "A beautiful woman with white hair and a beautiful white dress had to be an angel, right?" Alex wasn't the religious type; he wasn't an atheist, but he wasn't the type to go to church on Sundays or say a prayer before he went to bed, but he could've sworn that at this moment an angel had descended to take him up to the pearly gates in the sky.

The woman smiled at seeing Alex and put her hand on his cheek, and his now very cold body now had an unexpected sense of warmth that had now coursed through him.

The woman looked Alex in the eyes before saying the words that would change his life forever.

"It's not your time just yet, my dear Alex."

The next thing Alex knew, he was now in a solid white room; the coldness of his body and the blurriness of his vision were gone. Alex tapped himself around his entire body and didn't feel any pain; there wasn't even a cut on his arms.

"Hello?" Alex said, looking around the room and also now realizing he can hear himself, meaning he has his hearing back too. Alex could see nothing but white in every direction, making him quickly ask "Is this heaven?"

He had no response from anyone, making him think quickly "Is heaven just eternal solitude, because if so, heaven is sorely overrated."

In a last attempt, Alex asked out loud "Is anyone there?"

Once again, no response.

Realizing that nobody was next to him, Alex quickly tried to gather his thoughts. "So let me get this straight: I go to work, die saving a girl, and now I'm stuck in the eternal void...so much for good karma."

It was shortly thereafter that a voice called out to him.

"Hello, my dear."

Alex turned his attention to the voice and saw the beautiful woman, whom he thought was an angel, now sitting on a throne made of white metal and blue cushions.

The woman was staring at Alex with a noticeable smile on her face, and one of her legs was crossed over the other.

Once Alex had his full attention now focused on the woman, she stood up from the chair, making Alex realize just how her dress didn't hide her curves in the slightest.

"Are you an angel?" Alex asked the woman, not knowing what to say.

"A Angel? Please don't think of me as one of those lesser beings." the woman said with a quick retort.

"I'm sorry if that offended you. I'm just extremely confused right now." Alex replied.

The woman smiled back at Alex "As you were expected to be, after all, a lot has happened to you just now."

The woman then walked over next to Alex and snapped her fingers. Suddenly, a couch made of the same metal as her throne, along with the same cushions, appeared behind the two.

"Please sit, Alex." the woman said.

Alex listened and sat down next to the woman before asking "I have to ask, what's going on?"

Alex was confused since he thought that once he died, he'd either be escorted to heaven or stuck in eternal darkness, but instead he was just stuck in a white void with a beautiful woman next to him.

"I guess it's not the worst thing to be next to such a beauty; the pits of hell would be ALOT worse."

The woman smiled before placing a hand on Alex's thigh, sparking an immediate reaction from Alex. She then began explaining "It's understandable to be confused right now; anyone who had gone through what you just did would be. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Xymaris, and I'm not an angel like you first thought; I am a goddess."

"A goddess?" Alex asked in curiosity.

"Yes, as you well know, there are thousands of religions in your world, some true, some entirely mythological, but my case is a little bit different. You see, while I do have some influence in your world, Alex, my influence originates from an entirely different world compared to yours."

"A different world?" Alex asked, confused.

"Think of it as an alternate dimension, where your world is very technologically advanced; our world relies less on technology and more on something more natural, at least on the planet." Xymaris said it with a smile.

Alex, still very confused, asked "Natural?"

Xymaris held out her palm and produced a white flame from the center of it, almost as if her palm were a candle. "Magic Alex, people in my homeworld are able to control the natural elements and use them as magic. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light, Darkness, and even a few sub-elements as well, such as Ice and Lightning. For most people, there are natural magical elements inside of them that allow them to use magic. Of course, it depends on the person and how much magic they possess. Some people could fill an entire river with their advanced water magic, while others may only be able to use basic magic."

"So what are you getting at here?" Alex was curious as to why Xymaris was telling him all this. After all, he was dead; why should he care about what world she came from?

"Well, Alex, my dear, you see, I guess you could say me and you have a certain connection, and due to that connection, I have been observing you for years. I spent nearly a decade trying to figure out what makes you so special; after all, no offense, but you haven't exactly lived the most exciting life, but after awhile, I realized something." Xymaris explained.

"Realized what?" Alex asked.

"As I watched you live your life—the ups and downs, the triumphs and heartbreaks—I realized that I started to feel something for you. At first, I didn't know what it was, so I kept to my usual routine, but slowly, my thoughts became constantly about you: how were you doing? Is something eventful going to happen? These thoughts made my imagination run wild, but then today it happened." Xymaris said it with a smile.

"I died; isn't that right?" Alex asked.

"Exactly, seeing this, if I'm being honest, it broke my heart to see you die to save that young girl's life. So I made a quick decision." Xymaris said.

"And what would that be?" Alex responded.

"I will reincarnate in you the world that I originate from!" Xymaris said it with ethuasim.

Alex's face was now more confused than ever, and he could only usher out one word.

"What?"
