Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

"Sir," Adonis turned to look at the man speaking to him.

"Yes?" There was gravel in his voice and an authority in his tone that shook everybody.

No one could really manage more than ten seconds of eye contact with Adonis Kane.

As was usual, the attendant flinched and shifted his gaze to the floor as he stammered a response, "The c-chairman asks that you wait a few m-minutes. He wants to speak with you and s-says it won't be long."

There was a heavy pause.

Adonis stood outside the luxurious hotel that his sister managed that was a tourist attraction all on its own. A shiny Mercedes stood waiting for him to get in and several of his men from the Mafia house stood around him, ready to leave when he did.

The dark-haired boss waited a second longer before his eyes shifted to one of the men who stood holding the door of the car open.

"I get word through, Bruce. Where is he?"

The man stammered, "I- He did say he would assist Ms. Kane for the day."

Adonis nodded once before closing his eyes. He had been the one to tell Bruce to assist his little sister for the next month. Things would be hectic, and Bruce handled situations well and always lent a stable mind in times like that.

"I see."

The men waited in silence.

Adonis turned to the attendant and nodded, "Sure. Ready the parlor for us. I want Ms. Derson and Mr. Kahn to join us as well."

"Yes, sir!" The attendant scampered up the stairs and almost collided with doors as he went inside.

Adonis sighed as he turned back around and nodded to his men.

They were quick to hurry inside with only two left standing beside him as though as guards.

"We-"

Adonis stopped when he heard the sound of a car speeding up to the front.

His first instinct was to dodge but he could tell from experience that it was no threat that approached him.

The car screeched to a halt just behind his expensive Mercedes and a blond girl almost toppled out.

She was sweating and her face showed tension and yet, a strange resilience.

One of the valets stepped up and she almost threw her keys to him before she hurried to the front of the stairs where Adonis and his men stood.

She had beautiful blond hair and pretty eyes. Dressed in business clothes, a small silver necklace nestled against her collar bone, shimmering where the light hit the metal. Below the neck, a top hugged her large chest and a small curve showed in her belly. She wore sharp black heels and long business pants. The strap of her bag snuggled between her breasts.

Her focus seemed elsewhere as she hurried, almost running, past the men and took two of the stairs, right in front of Adonis.

Her black heels made a soft noise on them and ran up.

Adonis watched her go up keenly.

Very few walked straight past him without even a glance. They either looked at him because he was stunningly good looking or because something about him scared them.

There weren't many who could just ignore him which made his undercover missions rather impossible.

"Ah-"

Adonis looked up sharply as his ears heard the soft noise that the blond made.

Her leg had just slipped, and she was falling slowly backward, her hands reaching desperately to the front for balance.

Adonis reacted quickly as he always did.

Two stairs up and his arm had reached up to grab up at her waist.

Her body sunk into him slowly, softly and he grabbed her, blond hair flying into his face.

He wrinkled his nose and raised an eyebrow.

The pretty girl made another noise before she looked up.

A small cry from her slender neck.

Her eyes had widened in surprise, and she clearly had no idea what had just occurred.

Adonis looked down at her, his arms now wrapped around her body and his chest supporting her back.

A moment passed and her eyes showed emotion. Her lips stayed parted as she stared up at him. There were dancing lights in her pretty eyes and the way she stayed in his embrace despite the situation amused Adonis.

After a second longer, he decided to break the moment, "You alright?"

She blinked and, in a minute, her body flinched away from him.

The blond girl took several steps upward, clearly putting distance between them.

Adonis watched as her cheeks flushed pink and eyelids fluttered as she tried to compose herself.

The strain on her face from before had disappeared and now, a growing embarrassment was heating up her face.

"I- Sh- Oh no- I," she stammered over her words, eyes glued to the ground as she adjusted the strap of her bag a million times.

A corner of Adonis' lips lifted slowly.

That was the reaction he was used to. The hesitation, the averting of the eyes, the general feeling of needing to get away; that was what Adonis got from those around him and that was what he was comfortable with.

Never before, however, had he ever derived pleasure from the interactions.

--

"We are to join them in a few minutes," Frank said.

Tim adjusted his coat quickly.

Cassandra stood next to the two men, slowly sinking a necklace between her large breasts.

"Will the boss be there?" She asked quietly.

Frank raised an eyebrow, "Who, Ms. Kane?"

Cassandra groaned internally before adjusting the waves of her red hair, "No, Frank. I'm talking about our boss, Mr. A- Mr. Adonis."

Tim and Frank glanced at each other quickly.

"Wha- Why would he be there?"

"Well, shouldn't he?" The three agents were going up the elevator to Ms. Kane's expansive office to join her new meeting with the Party organizers.

She turned around to examine her outfit in the mirror that extended all the way to the roof of the elevator.

In casual clothes for the next month, Cassandra had picked out her clothes with care.

She was going to be very careful with her makeup and clothes so she could snag the boss when the time was right.

The night before had been an unforeseen disaster.
