Chapter 2 - Prologue

Ten years prior...

"My lady!" a maid exclaimed loudly rushing desperately down the hallway, " My lady?!"

Just then, a young girl who must have been no older than the age of nine emerged from a room that the maid(in her panic) would have completely run past.

"Martha?" the young girl questioned with a bemused expression on her face, " What's wrong?"

Upon seeing the girl's face, Martha's face instantly softened.

"Nothing is wrong at all my lady!" she said brightly trying to keep a gentle yet optimistic smile plastered onto her face, " The madam just requested your presence that's all."

"Really? Do you really mean it? Mama wants to see me!" the girl asked in excitement.

"Yes, my lady!" Martha said reassuringly, " However, she asked me to give you a letter and for you to follow its every direction!"

The girl nodded along to everything that Martha said as it did sound like the sort of thing that her mama would request, however, she still couldn't help but wonder...

"Did you read the letter Martha...?" she questioned. Martha's face reddened at that; however, she also felt that she couldn't lie to the little girl who was staring at her with such an innocent look on her face.

"Um... well...It was only a little peek! Barely even enough to count as reading!" she stammered, " Besides, don't you think that it's time that you meet with your mother?"

After hearing Martha's words, the girl nodded in enthusiasm and after giving her maid one last hug and kiss, she scurried away almost as quickly as she had appeared. It wasn't long until she reached her mother's entrance although she took the longer route as per her mother's instructions. And, after quickly checking if there was anyone in the immediate vicinity, she quickly rapped on the door before she quietly snuck in. As the girl discreetly closed the door and then turned around to face her mother, her eyes widened in shock. Her mother's room which had always been neat and organised was in utter chaos. Letters were strewn all across the floor, and a flower vase, as well as a mirror, lay shattered into sharp and dangerous shards of glass. The whole room was in complete disarray! And what was the most upsetting thing about the scene that was playing was that her precious mother who was usually so joyous and full of life was lying on the bed making nary a sound.

"Mama..." she said softly. At the sound of the girl's voice, the woman crawled out of the bed rapidly before clawing at her daughter and grabbing her face, almost as if she believed her child to be a figment of her imagination. A figment that she would lose if she didn't grab onto her and hold her as tightly as she could.

"Yuliana …" cried out a hoarse voice," Yuli my daughter, my sweet innocent child! I didn't do it! I really didn't do it! You know that don't you, you believe mama... Stay! Stay with me Yuli we'll be together, together forever! "
