Chapter 3 - Chapter II

After I arrived back in my room, I quickly wrote the letter which I had already created a draft for2. And, after putting it in the pouch that matched my disgustingly pastel dress, I headed over to my aunt Felicity's room. There isn't really all that much to say about my aunt. She is a chatterbox who cannot keep another person's secret even at the cost of her own life and my father's older sister. Other than that, well... there isn't really much. I often dislike going over to her room, firstly because the mix of "perfumes' ' is so overwhelming it makes the room smell horrific. Secondly, it was on the other side of the house to me so by the time that I got there, I was already exhausted. Nevertheless, out of all the family members, she was the most tolerable(mainly because of how ignorant and childish she is). After I got there, and my nose and eyes were bombarded by the worst mix of substances to ever grace this country, it didn't take long for me to see the disastrous abomination that I was expected to wear.

Even though it was my debut, I didn't actually get to choose my own clothing(well, not really anyway). Whilst I got to choose the colour and length, the rest was already decided for me. Without me even knowing. The design, the accessories even my hairstyle. And of course it played into my stereotype of Loopy Yuli, which was fine if the dress didn't look like this! A light blue and pink dress that reached my ankles and was covered with frills and feathers in some of the most unflattering places. As well as that the sleeves were shoulder length long (a style which did not flatter my figure at all due to me having relatively wide shoulders) and worse of all, the dress as a whole was about half an inch too small which meant that I was going to have to go through this entire event without consuming anything of proper sustenance. As for the accessories, they weren't all bad with me being provided with the typical brooch(which was way too big to actually compliment my outfit) as well as my fragile ribbons that always seem to loosen whenever I do any sort of basic movement. Nevertheless, I put them on, and after applying some makeup, I left my Aunt's room and made the way to my father's study to hear another one of his basic speeches about how much of a disappointment I am to the family.

Surprisingly, after I made it to the study, I found that it was completely empty. I assume then that he has probably gone before me and after checking with the butler, Ronan, it looks like my assumption was right.

Unexpectedly, it was colder outside than I had thought but I still hurried to the carriage before my father could complain about me wasting too much time. Unsurprisingly, the ride there was quiet and extremely awkward however it luckily didn't take long until we arrived at the venue. Instead of using the main manor, my father had decided to host the event at one of the houses we owned in the countryside. And now, I could definitely see why.

The house was simple yet sophisticated in its own way. The golden gates that surrounded it gave it a feeling of luxury and the tables outside were all neatly organised in the recently spruced-up garden. As we came closer, I could see the maids and butlers inside hastily getting on with work whether that was carrying a dish here or changing a tablecloth.

The carriage was stopped almost right in front of the house's doors and without saying a word, my father stepped out. I had already heard what the plan was going to be for tonight from Fran so I made sure to quickly follow his retreating figure. He opened the doors without looking to see if anyone was behind him so after ducking the slammed door, I also headed inside.

If the outside was impressive, the inside was breathtaking. The plain floor had been polished and its soft brown colour began to shine. Loking up, I saw extravagant white chandeliers that twinkled like stars. The walls were painted the same blue as my dress and the family crest and the white, dusty large windows had also been cleaned. Towards the back of the ballroom was a large table filled with refreshments and snacks. In spite of everything that was about to go down tonight, I couldn't help but smile. Who would have thought that cold, misanthropic man would put in so much effort?

"There are maids waiting for you upstairs," he said, "I have some matters to sort out so I'll be late. Dance with your brother when he gets here."

And with that, he was gone.

Although this was a long-standing tradition in the Carthian kingdom, I still found it odd that a young woman on her debutante was expected to stay at the venue whilst the rest of the guests(including family) arrived later on. Nevertheless, there is a plan I need to complete and nothing will stop me from doing it. Not even the many odd traditions of Carthia.

I quickly ran upstairs and it wasn't long before the guests started to arrive. This season's most popular couple Lady Rosalind and Sir David, my first sister Elizabeth, members of the house of Pitch among countless other faces that I hadn't even expected to show. I suppose that our family name still held some sway in the nobility.

"Are you ready to make your appearance my lady?" my lady-in-waiting Martha asked.

"Yes! I presume that Father isn't here yet so I'll have to go alone," I replied. Based on her silence, I could tell that I was right.

"It seems that Father really was very busy," I said, trying to appear unbothered, "You're dismissed, Martha!"

Although I felt like I was about to cry, I rushed out and holding myself up, made my way towards the suitcase. It's time to put on an act again.
