Her cute little body was inches from mine as I placed my hands on the workbench on either side of her. I could smell her heavenly pheromones that were telling me to get closer as I asked again. "Tell me the doubts you have." Molly was clearly nervous and there was a tinge of blush on her face as she tried to be angry with me. "Why the hell would I tell you such a thing?"
I smirked. "Because you know damn well you don't have anyone else to tell." I stared into her soul as she pursed her lips, and I knew that I was so close to getting her to talk. 'Come on, baby, tell us and we'll use it to destroy your relationship! Tell us! Tell us!' Erin said with anticipation. I had almost forgotten that there were voices in my head and the short moment of peace I had suddenly left.
Molly managed to break eye contact with me and gasped as she looked beside us. I wondered what she saw and unwittingly let her slip out of my grip. She ran to the side of the garage and kneeled in the corner. "Is that-?! It is!" She moved some tarps and spare tires away to reveal ten gas cans sitting in a row. She unscrewed the lid and smiled in delight to find that they were full. "Oh my god! Come and help me carry these, Kane! This is amazing! Ten whole cans of diesel! We have a helicopter at the settlement that has been out of fuel forever! With these, we'll be able to finally get it off the ground and find supplies outside our previous range!"
I was disappointed with how quickly she found a way to change the subject, and it was too late to change it back now. "Isn't that car fuel? Would that work on a helicopter?" Molly shrugged one shoulder as she picked up another can. "Car fuel might not have as much octane that a helicopter needs, but it's sure to get it off the ground for a little while. And that's all we'll need. Luckily, ours has a turbine engine." I was impressed with her knowledge of helicopters and wanted to keep hearing her talk. Her voice was so lovely whenever she got excited.
Suddenly, the sound of gunshots started firing close by which ripped me from the moment. "They're in trouble!" Molly gasped as she turned to look toward the way we came in. "Oh for all the-!" I became too pissed to finish my sentence and then ran out of the garage. Molly put down the gas can and followed me hurriedly as she pulled her gun from its holster.
Once I was outside, my eyes were given the image of a hoard of the undead, ungracefully attacking Jay as he stumbled away while firing his pistol. It was obvious the gun was doing nothing for him against the great number of zombies. James and Sarah came out from the stores to the sound and started firing as well. I didn't stop running and the team halted their shooting once I was in the crossfire.
Jay then ran out of bullets and a zombie grabbed his arm. Jay tried to pull away but the zombie was stronger and restrained him. It raised its jaws to his arm and he was being closed in on by the others. Before the corpse could take a bite out of him I then kneed the zombie in the stomach. It went flying into the corpses behind it, losing limbs as it flew. I ran into the remaining hoard and leveled them ten at a time, only having to use my legs as I said before. Every roundhouse kick I gave shattered the decaying bones of the enemy, and ruptured any of their remaining organs.
The only way they were able to touch me was by the spray of their dark blood on my clothes. As I fought, I felt anger bubble up inside me and irritation became anger. I didn't know where the sudden rage came from but I assumed it was because this fucking interruption ruined my alone time with Molly. I probably would've been able to get our conversation back on track if I didn't have to run out here. All the hard work of getting her to talk to me was suddenly tossed out the window. I was so close to finally becoming someone she could tell her concerns to, but it was ripped from me because Jay wouldn't bring a better gun.
My anger translated into my fighting and I felt as if I was doing more damage than before. I could hear every bone crumbling to dust upon the impact of my foot, and body parts went flying out of sight. Once I finished them all off I stood with my fists at my sides and tried to calm down. I was brought out of my murder spell when Jay spoke from behind me. "Wow, thanks. I would've been toast if you weren't here. Did you pick up some new moves, bro?"
I turned my head to see Jay in the aftershock of almost being eaten. I glared at him and he stood nervously with a hand behind his head as if he knew that this was all his fault. His coffee skin showed a hint of sienna from the late afternoon sun and I would've winked at him if he hadn't pissed me off. "What do I look like, a babysitter?" I then walked past him after his face became surprised and I scoffed. "Next time, bring the automatic."
As I expected, James then continued without acknowledging that I just obliterated a hoard in less than a minute. "Now that it's confirmed that everyone is okay, did anyone find anything useful?" Molly responded with confidence. "Yes, in fact, Kane and I found ten whole fuel cans full of diesel in the auto repair shop!" James blinked. "You and Kane?" He then looked my way with irritation on his face. "You followed her?! After I specifically told you not to?!"
I shrugged as I crossed my arms. "Pretty much." His hands shook a little as if he wanted to strangle me but he put them down a second later. "Diesel. That's actually great news. Come on, guys. Everyone grab a can. Then give it to Kane. Hell knows he's strong enough. No need to waste any valuable energy." I rolled my eyes and we all headed to the shop to load up on loot. Sarah had found some cans of food as well in the other shops and we filled the rest of the backpacks with them.
The trip back to the settlement was uneventful and before I knew it I was walking back to my place for the night. Hank was pleased with how much we found and thanked me personally for protecting the team once again. I didn't care for his thanks but didn't voice my thoughts. He said that the test for the helicopter would start tomorrow and if we were able to get off the ground we would have a risky mission to grab provisions from the island off the edge of the city.
The island was unfortunately infected due to the frequent ferries that went to and from there, but the location was sure to have all kinds of useful supplies because of how hard it was to get to now. It was most likely that no other settlements had been able to loot there yet.
