Reon's POV
"You need to chill out, Reon. Your dad is just being worried about you." Torin said calmly. He is the only guy that matches my energy in this park. We've been friends since the third grade of Alpha Academy, and we've been inseparable ever since.
Torin has found his mate, just like all the guys in my age group have found theirs. It's not like I'm desperate to find a mate for myself but I just have to go and get one. My father, the alpha of the Night Park said that was the only way I would receive his blessings before he passed on.
Usually, the Alpha lives for a longer time than other werewolves. They could live up to 250 years. My father is 221 years old and has less than 6 months of his life. He had me promise I'd get a mate. That's why I was so agitated. I know the moon goddess was the one to bless me with a mate instead of going to look for one, why the rush?
For days now I've been feeling my mate clamouring to me. No one had to know that. Not even Torin. I really don't want a mate now. I don't think I can handle a proper relationship. I feel like a bad friend for not telling Torin about it. We tell each other everything and have each other 's backs, but i didn't feek i wanted him in on this one
That's why I made it seem like my dad is pressuring me so much.
"Could you believe he says that if I don't get a mate before the next full moon, he will make you the alpha instead of me?" I said, trying to put on an opulent act.
Torin snickered, "Believe me, that can't happen, he's probably…"
"You know what Alpha Styles is capable of, right?" I asked Torin like I was compelling him to believe my lies.
He sighed and came to the log of wood I was sitting on in the woods; placing his hands on my shoulder, he said "Look Reon, I see no wrong in what your dad had told you. But I'm sure he doesn't mean it that way. Most of our friends have gotten their own mate, I think you're the only one left out in this park, bro."
"I didn't say I'm desperate for a mate. If my dad could let me rule this park without a mate, I'll do it with dexterity." I said curtly
Torin looked at me for some time, it seemed like he had lost the argument to me.
He removed his clothes and hung them on a tree branch, letting his big brown Wolf out as he spoke telepathically to me.
"We should take a run to cool off some steam, Reon."
He said as he goaded me on.
Knowing he had bought my yarning, I sighed deeply. "I'm really not in the mood, Torin," I said as I pulled myself up from the chunk of wood.
Changing into my black wolf, I relaxed my mind as I trudged towards him.
*****
Torin breathed heavily after we'd ran for miles, sweat streaming down our faces. I still had some strength in me to go further but I decided to rest here with him.
I'll rub it in his face of how bad he is in the race, but for now, I am faced with another situation.
The scent that had been taunting me for weeks now is back. It lingers in the air. This scent drives me nuts.
I knew who and what that scent was for.
It's her pheromones
I know her so much that I hate that I know her. But what could she be doing here all alone.
It took all my willpower to resist going after her but I just couldn't. I guess it's my duty to protect this….i couldn't just come up with a curse word.
I groaned in frustration and told Torin through the mind link that I sensed something in the air.
"This your Alpha instincts is really getting too much of you, what does that big muzzle of yours perceive again?"
Now it's annoying as he thinks I'm being stupid.
"Look Torin," I said with I sigh, "it's either you come with me to trace that scent… or whatever that could be or you just wait here while I, the brave one… amongst both of us fearlessly go seeking," I said, trying to coerce him into joining me.
Torin rolled his eyes as he trudged towards me and gave me a little jab, "You're still on that childish stuff, hmm?"
"That's the only way you'd come with me." I said, feeling so good about myself.
"Well, let's hurry up with this "thing" of yours." he said in air quotes through the mind link, "so I can get home to my gorgeous mate, unlike some people who don't have one."
"Other than that your mate, have you got any better thing in that big head of yours?" I asked, trying to dim his humour a bit.
He only laughed. "I have a mate, where is yours?" He scoffs at me.
I shrugged.
I wouldn't let what he said get to me.
"Come on bro"
We both ran off, while I tracked the scent
We got a where the scent got stronger and stopped
"A wolf is here," Torin said, sniffing the air.
"Yeah" I snorted
"Who could be out here at this time? Maybe it's a rogue wolf." Torin said.
I looked at him, fully knowing why it was here, walked a little forward and hid behind the shrubs, Torin did the same.
The moonlight casts its Shadow on it and we could see it clearly through the bush. I'd be lying if I said this wolf didn't look flawless.
"That's a beautiful wolf right there." Torin said, giving me a nudge.
"I think she can see us, she's looking this way." Torin said
"Then we'll have to go ask her why she's here." I said, coming out from where we were scrutinising the young wolf.
Torin came after me.
The wolf looked so beautiful, her eyes were so captivating, just like the first day I met her. Although she looked frightened, she'd seen us approaching her and leaned up to the tree, fidgeting. While we were hiding in the small bush, she looked like she was ready for a fight.
I think her whole concept of fighting with us had come to an abrupt end as she had seen our size.
It gave me an inner joy, a reason I knew nothing of.
I wanted to change into my human form so I could talk to her properly, but then I remembered I'd left my clothes where I couldn't even remember. Thanks to my alpha instincts, I'm able to communicate with any werewolves.
So I spoke to her telepathically.
