Chapter 36 - I will never let you die again!

In the morning, Chou Ping made several phone calls, but Kailin still didn't answer.

Chou Ping had to temporarily give up and continue refining his proposal while waiting for the notification from the colleague.

After some small talk, Chou Ping picked up his external hard drive and headed towards the meeting room.

This time, Chou Ping intentionally didn't set his phone to silent mode, fearing that Kailin might call and he wouldn't be able to answer.

In the meeting room, after a brief exchange with Stephen, an elderly man who stirred enthusiasm, Chou Ping began his presentation.

"Boss, the theme of my plan is breakthrough and innovation."

Then Chou Ping began an enthusiastic explanation, incorporating the points mentioned by Stephen yesterday, along with his own opinions and summaries.

Although there were only two listeners this time, the significance of this presentation was no less than the summary presented at the company's annual meeting. This would determine the company's future development direction and business focus, representing a potential investment of billions, if not tens of billions.

Compared to the last presentation, Chou Ping appeared more confident, creative, and logical. Stephen listened with a smile, nodding frequently, feeling that this young man's ideas resonated with him.

Stephen even had the illusion that this young man was like his passionate and energetic self from the younger days.

Chou Ping's speech, coupled with Stephen's satisfied expression, made Sarah, who was beside them, feel happy. She looked at Chou Ping with a different light in her eyes.

The presentation was perfect, the audience was engaged, but just as Chou Ping was passionately speaking, a sudden voice broke this perfection.

The phone placed on the table rang...

Sarah's expression changed instantly, and she quickly said, "Chou, what's going on? Don't you know that during work presentations, the phone should be on silent mode?"

Stephen's face also showed some displeasure; indeed, this was Chou's fault.

However, Chou Ping grabbed the phone without hesitation and said seriously, "Boss, I'm very sorry. I deliberately turned on the ringtone because I'm waiting for a very important call!"

Sarah was immediately annoyed. This guy seemed to be deliberately challenging her. "How important can it be? Can it be more important than the company's development?"

"Of course, it's a matter of life and death, and I must answer it." Chou Ping said without hesitation.

Sarah was furious. "You wait, Chou. I think we should deduct your bonus for this month. Let that be a lesson!"

Stephen's expression changed several times, but he finally remained silent and didn't say anything.

Chou Ping answered the call, running out of the meeting room, saying, "Sorry, Kailin, for keeping you waiting. Where are you? I'll come to you now. Have you encountered any trouble?"

In the meeting room, Sarah waved her hands, somewhat angrily saying, "This guy has no manners at all. It's really outrageous. I think we should deduct his bonus to teach him a lesson."

Stephen shook his head. "Sarah, sit down, be quiet. It's good for employees to have personalities. Look at this guy with a personality; didn't he bring us a great plan?"

Stephen pointed to the screen, where the slides were still displayed. "He has already explained the core content. We can look at the rest ourselves."

In the corridor, a weary voice came from Kailin's phone, "Chou, I should be the one apologizing. I let you down, I..."

Chou Ping quickly interrupted her, "Okay, don't say anything. You should have received my text this morning. Don't worry about the money. For me, making half a million is much easier than you imagine."

"Chou, you don't need to comfort me. I understand your situation. Half a million dollars is not a small amount for you. I'm very sorry for believing in someone else's lies and causing you this loss..."

"Hey hey hey, Kailin, listen to me. Making money is really easy for me. Where are you now? I'll come to find you, and we'll make another half a million together!"

At this moment, Kailin had already reached the company's rooftop. Facing the wind, she was in a state of despair, with all hopes extinguished.

"Chou, I no longer have the face to see you. You are a good person, and I let you down. I am a sinner, and I can only go to hell..."

"No, Kailin, it's nothing. Money is just a number to me, really!"

"I'll pay you back this money in my next life, Chou. I'm really sorry, really..."

The sound of the wind, and a few seconds later, Chou Ping heard the sound of a heavy object falling, and then everything came to a sudden halt.

Chou Ping's heart tightened; he knew that Kailin had jumped off.

But he didn't know the specific location of Kailin's company, nor did he know what happened to that money. He didn't even know how to console this foolish girl.

Suddenly, Chou Ping slapped his own head. He wanted to scold himself as an idiot. To find out Kailin's company address, it was straightforward: check the news.

This kind of suicide jumping event would definitely make it to the news!

"Kailin, wait for me. I won't let you die in the next cycle!"

With a silent vow, Chou Ping calmed down and returned to the meeting room. Stephen led the applause, joined by Sarah.

"Chou, your plan is really fantastic. Youth is indeed full of passion. But there are a few minor flaws. Do you mind if I point them out?"

Chou Ping shook his head.

Stephen pointed out the shortcomings and then encouraged Chou Ping.

"What's wrong, Chou? Are you in a bad mood? Is there anything I can help with?"

Chou Ping forced a smile, "Sorry, Mr. Stephen, there was a little accident, but I'll be able to adjust soon."

Stephen patted Chou Ping on the shoulder, "Young man, work hard. I have high hopes for you!"

Thinking that he could find Kailin in the next cycle and prevent her from jumping off, Chou Ping no longer felt dejected.

Of course, he didn't want to go to the hospital again to see Kailin's lifeless body. He spent the entire afternoon in the office.

Apart from eating and using the restroom, Chou Ping sat in front of his desk, scrolling through various news articles, focusing on the news about Kailin's suicide.

This suicide event had attracted media attention, and through the news, Chou Ping learned the specific address of Kailin's company, which was not far from his location, just two streets away.

Not only did he find out Kailin's company address, but the media's powerful investigative abilities even revealed the reason for Kailin's suicide.

To Chou Ping's surprise, the keyword for this news was "China."

Kailin had accepted a commission from a Chinese friend to manage a fund of 500,000 dollars.

This Chinese person naturally referred to Chou Ping, but his specific information was not leaked, thanks to the media's professional ethics.

The reason for Kailin's suicide was that she violated the commission agreement and misappropriated the money for investment in a Chinese company that was going public on the same day.

At the same time as this company went public, the lunatic president of the United States issued a decree imposing high tariffs on some Chinese industries and restricting the sales of some Chinese products to the U.S. market.

And the business scope of that company happens to be within the restriction order!
