Tang Xiao was still in a daze.
She knew well that she should not assume this man was her father. After all, this man could be someone who might look like her father. A doppelganger or something like that.
But then, her instinct was telling her that the man standing in front of her was definitely her father.
Her heart was telling her that this was the same person in her mother's photograph.
Now that she had a closer look at this man, Tang Xiao realized that this man almost resembled her elder brother.
Look. Their eyes were the same, right?
Tang Xiao snapped out of her trance when she saw that the little boy in the tall man's arms was stretching his hand as if wanting to touch her.
"No." Tang Xiao shook her head. "I'm not lost." She then recalled that she had found an item that belonged to this man earlier. Tang Xiao lifted the card in her hand and spoke, "I think you dropped this."
Ye Heng glanced at the item in the little girl's hand and saw that she was holding a hospital appointment card.
It was then that Ye Heng realized that the card he was holding earlier was no longer in his hand. He took the card from the little girl and finally saw Su Yu's name on it.
The light in his eyes lit up. "Thank you." Ye Heng observed the card in his hand. He looked at the little girl again and smiled. "Little girl, it would be quite troublesome if I lost this card."
Tang Xiao pursed her lips into a thin line. She glanced at the little boy in her father's arms, wondering if this little boy was her little brother.
Xiao Xiao realized that there was something that she had never considered before...
According to her mother, it had been a long time since she had seen her father and she did not know where her father had gone to.
But what if her father was now married to someone else and he now had a new family?
Then, what should she should do?
Tang Xiao wished to discuss this matter with her elder brother. Chen Chen was smart. He would know what to do. Unfortunately, her elder brother was not around.
She hesitated briefly before she spoke, "Uncle..."
Tang Xiao knew that her father did not know who she was or recognized her. She did not want to scare him by calling him 'Daddy'. For now, Xiao Xiao thought that she should call this man 'Uncle'.
"Why are you here?" Tang Xiao asked. She looked at Su Yu again. "Is this little brother unwell?"
Ye Heng glanced at his nephew. "No. He's not unwell. Yu Yu came here to get his shot." He rubbed his head against Su Yu. "Yu Yu is very brave today."
"Yu Yu brave." Su Yu echoed his uncle's words.
Tang Xiao looked at the little boy again. She could not deny that she was a little jealous to see that this little boy had a father with him. "Little brother's name is Yu Yu?"
"Un." Ye Heng nodded. "His name is Su Yu. Everyone at home always calls him Yu Yu. Little girl, what is your name?"
Tang Xiao was a bit happy when Ye Heng asked for her name. "Tang Xiao. But Uncle, you can call me Xiao Xiao." She hoped that he would remember her name.
"Un. Tang Xiao is a pretty name." Ye Heng nodded.
Tang Xiao smiled brightly.
"Xiao Xiao!" Su Yu repeated.
Ye Heng looked at his nephew. "No. Yu Yu, you have to call her Sister Xiao Xiao."
Su Yu nodded. "Sister Xiao Xiao!"
Tang Xiao thought that her little brother was quite cute. She wondered if she should tell her brother that they have a little brother.
"Then, Uncle, what is your name?" Tang Xiao braved herself to ask for her father's name.
"My name?" Ye Heng pointed a finger at himself. He watched as the little girl nodded and smiled. "My name is Ye Heng."
Tang Xiao repeated the name a few times in her heart.
"Uncle!" Su Yu patted her chubby hand on his uncle's shoulder. "Look for my mom."
It was then that Ye Heng realized that he had spent a long time talking to Tang Xiao and that he had forgotten that they were supposed to look for his younger sister, Ye Qing Xin.
"Alright." Ye Heng heaved helplessly. "Let's look for your mom."
"Uncle?" Tang Xiao repeated. She looked at both Ye Heng and Su Yu with a puzzled look in her eyes. "Why is little brother Yu Yu calling you uncle? Is he not your son?"
Ye Heng laughed softly. He should find it strange for a little girl like Tang Xiao to ask him too many questions. But then, he realized that smaller children seemed to like asking questions. Moreover, he liked Tang Xiao.
"Yu Yu is my nephew." Ye Heng patted the little boy on his head.
Tang Xiao's heart was beating fast, knowing that Su Yu was not her little brother, but her cousin.
"Then, Uncle, are you married?" Tang Xiao asked the question cautiously.
Ye Heng froze. For a while, he thought that it was a strange question coming from a little girl like Tang Xiao. But then, he did not seem to mind her question.
"I'm not married," Ye Heng admitted. He leaned over and whispered, "I am still single."
If it was another stranger, Ye Heng would not entertain that person and answer the question. However, the little girl in front of him was too adorable. He felt the need to answer her question.
Tang Xiao's eyes lit up upon hearing the man's answer.
Her father was not married. Then, her mother still has a chance to be together with her father. Then, they could become a family again.
"Xiao Xiao, I need to go and look for Yu Yu's mother," Ye Heng said. "Will you be alright to stay here on your own?"
"It's fine. I'm on my way to find my friends anyway."
Ye Heng heaved a breath of relief. "Then, Xiao Xiao, thank you again for helping me." He stretched his hand and patted the little girl on her head.
He flashed the girl a smile before turning around with Su Yu in his arms.
Tang Xiao watched as her father left and did not look away until he had disappeared from her eyesight. After a while, she raised her hand to touch her head, the spot where her father had touched earlier.
It seemed that her father's hand was quite big.
