Chapter 2 - Old ties, New Start

In the black expanse of an endless void, there was a single source of light floating lazily. A human soul, unaware of the nightmare that is nothing, enveloping him. After an eternity passed, for that is the only real measure of time here, the lone soul began to stir awake. "So that is what a headshot feels like. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!" The soul said, a smile on his… face? How can a faceless ball of light smile?

Sato, as if only just now realizing his state-of-being was formless, moved to inspect his surroundings and found, "Yep, I got nothing. I know I died and all but this is just boring" Sato said as he got right back to just floating along in the void. "Shouldn't God have sorted me to my afterlife already or at the very least run into a ROB," Sato thought out loud.

"We were just getting to that, actually," said a calm and serene voice. Sato, confused, turned around only to find a tall black man dressed in a pure white tuxedo with a full head of gray hair surrounded by the void, which now changed to a blinding white to match the man. "Morgan Freeman! You know what, I'm not even surprised." Sato remarked.

//Sato's POV//

Morgan Freeman smirked as if amused by my lack of surprise. "Give it to me straight doc, where do I go from here," I expressed equally amused at speaking to both God and Morgan Freeman. "Well, normally you'd be sent directly to Hell for your actions," God asserted with a stern look, almost like a father scolding their child.

'Normal? As in, I won't be taken to hell?' I deduced after catching on to God's phrasing. 'Well, I'll find out soon anyway, so why not probe for info,' I inferred. "Really, and which action would that be?" I questioned the Supreme Being himself. "I'd like to know my sins."

Morgan Freeman's expression softened into a more impartial expression as he pulls a file out of a cabinet that wasn't there before. "Very well… Let's begin with your more recent sins." He opened the file before sitting at a pure white office desk.

"Your sins are as follows. Variance." God claimed, "Is it wrong to be different?" I replied. "Strife," He continued. "Disagreements over fundamental issues are inevitable." I retorted.

"Uncleanness" "Are you saying I was dirty, I did my best to keep good hygiene, and you know it!" I was unhappy about that one. "Hatred and wrath," God went on as I was silenced by memories I'd rather forget. "And finally Sedition, Envying, and Emulation."

I couldn't speak because, 'Emulation, the effort to match or surpass a person or achievement, usually by imitation.' I've only ever known one character to have ever made me so envious. Tet, the one true god of Disboard.

I know it's strange to envy a fictional character, but wants not to envy about the freest gamer. He lives his reality as a Dev and world-hopper, with no worries of a war ever appearing in his realm.

"Honestly, God Freeman, you got me on that last one. Now why don't we move on to what is going to happen," I spoke to God in a cheerful tone. Sighing at my unfazed smile, god said, "Luckily for you, the final action in your life racked up more positive karma than your sin's negative karma." God explained. "So, does that mean I get into heaven." I inquired. "No, but you can if you wish too," God replied.

"What do you mean if I wish," I once again questioned god. "For those who have greatly contributed to humanity and built up enough karma, they are rewarded with a single wish." God explained. "Only one?" I asked, "Yes, only one because a single wish is enough to fulfil your greatest desire."

My greatest desire. Freedom, happiness, and challenge the thought filled me with joy, but… "My daughter, Alter, what happened to her after my death." I had no intention of just indulging in selfish pleasure.

"Well, after your death she grew lonely and attempted to make an AI of her own despite knowing the fail-safe put in place if a new one were to appear." The fail-safe? Right, if any new AI was born and had access to my private servers, I figured it would be an enemy. So, the fail-safe I left would tear apart the foreign AI's code line by line until nothing is left.

"So, what did she do in response. She can't get past the fail-safe, and she's not one to give up, so how did she do it." I had to know. "She passed on her security key to the new AI." God said in the same calm and serene voice he had since the beginning.

But I am anything but calm right now, "What did you say?! No, that can't be right, that would mean that would… would-" "Kill her? Precisely what happened." God ever the calm one finished my sentence.

In the end, I suppose I should have given her more freedom or at the very least give her the ability to make more security keys. I guess I have no one but myself to blame. "Does she get a wish too?" I questioned him.

"No, as an AI she had no soul and therefore no vessel to hold the karma she accumulated." God answered. 'I figure that was the case. Well then.' I thought before making my decision.

"If she has no vessel, then I wish she and her daughter to have souls and for the karma they acquired to reward them as any other species would." Gone was the cheerful tone, and in its place was conviction.

"Pfft, ha ha ha ha ha. No hesitation, not even a second thought!" It would seem the calm and serene Morgan Freeman look isn't his true self.

The once calm and serene visage of Morgan Freeman shattered like glass and in his place a tall faceless humanoid with skin as white as paper and wide smile adorned with a white top hat with a golden crucifix. Their head framed four floating detached eyes, which were currently squinted crescents in show of joy, produced a slight glow.

"Looks like he won the bet, I'll have to deal with that later," God said to no one in particular. "Well, your wish has been granted. Off go to the void now," God said dismissively while waving his hand.

My vision began to blur and twist before I felt a jerking up as if I was being pulled off in an unknown direction.

//3rd POV//

Standing in the white void, God turned his to an old man who appeared to be in his late 70s or early 80s. The man was tall, tell, and covered in scars and wearing an old military uniform. A sign of a colorful past.

"Are you sure you don't want to see your grandson? You spent so long watching him, after all." God ask the man curiously. "No, he'll just feel guilty knowing I didn't move on." The old mad with a look of sad remembrance said.

"Well, it's your choice. Anyway, you ready to end this bet." God said with an infuriating wide smirk. "Come, claim your second wish."

"Well then… I Tomoya Getoru…. I wish for Sato's deepest desire to be turned into reality," Expressed Getoru with deep conviction.

"Ha ha ha ha. You two really put others first, don't you. Very well, your wish shall be granted." God laughed
