Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: Research on the Philosopher's Stone

The truth behind the Philosopher's Stone is the crystallization of Ether.

"Ether" is the fifth element, beyond Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire, considered the source of all matter.

It serves as the necessary medium for the composition of matter and has a special connection to the spiritual realm.

Ether also possesses the ability to record information and intelligence. Akasha is its alias, and the so-called Akasha records are a universally encoded data set stored using Ether as a medium.

Although Ether does not exist in nature as a standalone material form, without it, magic would not exist.

However, as no one can directly control the Ether element, its presence is not prominent in either the wizarding world of Harry Potter or in other realms.

Yet, it is precisely because of Ether's unique connection to the spiritual world that magic exists.

Magic involves manipulating magical energy with mental control to leverage the techniques of bending rules.

The reason the power of the mind can truly interfere with the material world in a magical world is due to the existence of Ether.

Conversely, it is the lack of Ether's presence that makes certain worlds—such as Alaric's homeland—a monotonous materialistic world.

The Philosopher's Stone, as the crystallization of Ether, is not easily extracted.

At least, after a month of continuous research, Alaric had made no breakthroughs.

No, he did gain some insights. At the very least, based on his research on the Philosopher's Stone, he developed a technique to store magical energy.

Using this technique, he could modify mineral crystals to store magical energy efficiently.

While this technique is quite common in many magical worlds, it doesn't appear in the Harry Potter universe.

This is why there are no highly powerful magical artifacts in the Harry Potter world.

In this world, all magical artifacts derive their magical power from runic inscriptions.

Although alchemists can use runes to maintain higher magical power, it has its limitations.

Runes were not designed for this purpose; they were primarily meant to serve as CPUs. Yet, these people insist on using them as power sources.

Without a true magical power source at its core, how can magical artifacts unleash sufficient power?

Although this is a simple foundational technique for most magical worlds, for Alaric, the technology of magical energy storage is a significant starting point.

Many magical technologies and creations start with the storage of magical energy.

This includes the magical machinery technology mastered by Orianna. Alaric, due to the lack of alternatives to magical cores, never progressed further in his studies.

The ability to generate magical power, from magical furnaces to more powerful magical reactors and Mithril cores, is all built on this foundational technology.

Though it is currently just a sapling, one day, it will grow into a towering tree.

However, saplings need water, and this sapling needs money—he needs to spend a considerable amount to purchase gemstones as storage batteries for magical energy to continue his research.

Without sufficient financial support, all of this is just talk.

This also means that Alaric's money-making plan must continue, at least until he masters the technology of artificial magical energy storage crystals.

Of course, if Alaric were to announce this technology immediately, he could undoubtedly receive a first-class Order of Merlin and endless wealth.

But for now, he doesn't plan to do so because he is still too weak. At least, he is not yet a match for Dumbledore or the full power of Voldemort.

Before he grows to the point where he can confront the former two directly and even defeat them, he will not reveal this technology that could completely revolutionize the magical world.

For now, he uses a few gemstones as a magical power source and modifies his bus to store more magical energy at once.

During the holidays, Alaric has another goal: to learn about Animagus.

Animagus refers to a wizard who can transform into an animal, one of the highest levels of Transfiguration.

Many great wizards possess this ability, with the most powerful being the legendary Merlin Ambrosius.

He is the most astonishing Animagus in history, capable of transforming into various animals and communicating with them.

His most astonishing transformation was turning into a virus, leading to victory in a duel against the witch Mrs. Mim.

At the same time, Merlin is also a Metamorphmagus, able to transform into an old man, a child, and a woman.

When practicing Animagus, a person may become obsessed, so the Ministry of Magic tightly controls it.

All Animagus transformations and characteristics must be registered in the Ministry of Magic's Office for the Prohibition of Abuse of Magic.

The steps to practice Animagus are quite complex. The first step requires the learner to continuously hold a Mandrake leaf in their mouth for a full month.

After removing the leaf, they must fill a crystal vial with saliva and soak the leaf in it, allowing it to absorb pure moonlight.

Add a strand of the learner's hair and dew collected from a place untouched by sunlight or human contact for seven days.

Finally, add the chrysalis of a Bubotuber. Place this mixture in a quiet, dark place until the next thunderstorm, without looking at it or disturbing it.

During the wait for the thunderstorm, at each sunrise and sunset, the learner should perform the following actions: point the wand tip at the heart and chant the incantation, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus."

At the moment lightning streaks across the sky, immediately go to where you buried the crystal vial. There, a mouthful of blood-red magical potion will appear.

At this point, the learner needs to point the wand tip at the heart, recite the incantation, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus," and then drink the potion.

At this moment, the user will experience intense pain and two types of rapid heartbeats. Images of the creature about to transform will appear in their mind. The first transformation will begin.

After mastering the transformation process, one can truly become an Animagus.

Now, Alaric is about to start this process.

The time to hold the Mandrake leaf must be during the full moon, and by the next full moon, he will already be at Hogwarts.

This way, the remaining steps can be completed at Hogwarts, and during this time, he can also seek the assistance of Professor McGonagall—Professor McGonagall herself is also an Animagus, transforming into a cat.
