Chapter 18 - Turnaround |Part 1|

The forest was cold, but I hardly felt the cold because of the heat that was overpowering my body from running through the forest.

We didn't have a direction or anything like that, we just wanted to clear our heads a little and relax, we only stopped when we got thirsty and heard the sound of water, it was a stream of a river.

I was drinking water when Triton nibbled on me, in response I tried to bite him but he dodged easily. I raised my head, even though I was smaller than him, I showed him that I was not afraid, I realized that he liked the challenge, so he turned around and ran into the forest. I

followed him and found him standing in the middle of an area where there weren't many trees, I didn't get too close, because I already knew what he intended: to train me. That's what he had said before we transformed, he wanted me to know how to protect myself from the killer wolf.

And even after saying that Aunt Ju trained me for more than three years, it wasn't enough to convince him. I didn't know if I liked the idea or not, but now it seemed like something really fun.

As he realized that I wasn't going to go to him, he growled and came at me just as I expected, it wasn't hard to dodge, but countering was almost impossible. I didn't have as much agility to be able to dodge and still make an attack, which is why I was so excited when I was able to take him down.

I almost wagged my tail, but my pride wouldn't let me imitate a dog, so I just bit its ear.

From proud, Triton went from defiant because of a little bite, and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground with his paw on top of my neck and his teeth right next to my eye.

He growled, nothing threatening, but he wanted to show dominance, if I could, I would have laughed in his face, but I wasn't in a position to do so. I growled back, but he was no longer surprised by my actions, he already knew that I loved to challenge him.

The annoying thing was that he wouldn't let me get up and still bit me lightly every time I tried to get up, he was much stronger and more experienced, but I wouldn't give up.

So, I tried to get up once more and by the time he came to bite me, I licked his muzzle, taken by surprise, Triton pulled back and shook his head, I took advantage and jumped on top of him and we ended up rolling down a small hill.

When we stopped, I was lying on top of his body, I stood up and nibbled on his neck as he stood up. It didn't growl, but it gave me a look that I felt I should run, and that's what I did.

I was already quite far away, but my sense of smell told me that he was close, I used my ears to know where and how far, I crouched near a bush, as I was small, it was easy to hide.

Then Triton appeared right ahead and didn't see me, but I knew I would soon find myself somehow. Said and done, with his snout he found me and grunted, I got out from behind the bush and walked, cautiously, to him.

Triton was still serious, but as soon as I got closer, something about him seemed to change and I knew he wasn't mad anymore when he gave me back the lick on my muzzle. I shook my head and gruntled, I was sure he would laugh at me afterwards.

The afternoon was so much fun, but it went by so fast. I had never realized that I could enjoy being a wolf so much, thankfully Triton was willing to show me the good side of our species.

It was already getting dark when we got back to the city, this time we walked in the northern part, I jumped more than I walked and Triton thought it was funny.

- What's wrong? I stuck out my tongue. - Can't I be happy?

- Nothing. - He kept looking at me. - I just think that next year we will have a new member in the pack. - he smiled.

I could tell he was really excited about the idea of me joining his pack.

"Why do you want me to go into this pack?" - I asked, walking normally again.-

It'll be fun to have you around. - he replied. - New wolves always cheer you up and it's nice to teach you things.

It was an acceptable answer, but it still wasn't enough to convince me to leave my home. I went back to concentrating on the street, there weren't many people and nothing unusual happened for more than two hours.

Now, in the center of the city and almost reaching the southern part, Triton stopped and sniffed the air as if he had a muzzle, I looked around, there was only a couple and two children, and further ahead there was a skinny man in an old coat and a pair of half-torn sweatpants.

Then, soon we realized what bothered us, it was the smell of the lord that was identical to that of the killer wolf. However, we couldn't get too close since he could recognize our smells as the same species, the solution was to follow him and when there was no one around, we would catch him.

"You're going to help me follow you because then we pretend to be a couple, but just in time, I'll pick you up and you watch."

I snorted and nodded, it was no time to argue with him as we had a killer in front of us, I let Triton's dominant ego prevail for today.

So we started the chase, the guy was carefree and didn't seem to notice our presence, a bit of a strange attitude for a wolf, but the day I came face to face with him, I realized that he wasn't one of the best of our kind.

We walked slowly and very attentively, time went by and we were not alone with the guy, only when we were near the hotel, where Triton is staying, there was no sign of anyone around.

As Triton had commanded, I continued walking normally as he approached the suspect. He tapped him on the shoulder, the man turned around in surprise, the two stopped and I approached slowly so as not to alert the man and not to irritate the Triton.

I stopped a little before them, it was enough for me to listen to the conversation.

- Is there anything I can help you with?

The man turned to face Triton, gave a small smile, his face was very thin and had a worn expression. I scratched my nose, I didn't know how Triton was putting up with being so close to this horrible odor.

"I'm sure you can," Triton replied quickly.

The old man blinked twice, then let out a nervous laugh.-

D-I'm sorry, but I don't understand. - he trembled.

From afar I could smell Triton's scent change, it was stronger and I also noticed that he was showing dominance, possibly it was a way to intimidate the other wolf.

I just didn't understand why the man pretended not to understand, didn't he realize that we already knew who he was. In fact, looking closely, he hasn't noticed that I'm here yet.

I take another step and finally he sees me, that's when I knew he wasn't the killer wolf, because his eyes were green and if there's one thing we keep in both forms it's our eyes.

I was going to warn Triton about the mistake, but the old man tried to run away and Triton grabbed the sleeve of his coat on instinct. Without much coordination, the man broke free from his coat and took off running, Triton was going to follow him, thankfully I was fast enough to stop in front of him and stop him.

"What are you doing?" his voice was very angry.

"It's not him," I said, "His eyes are green, the other's are gray.

Triton stopped and stared at me, I thought he was going to ignore what I had just said, but instead, he took a deep breath. I was surprised by the trust he placed in me.

"I just don't know how to explain the smell," I commented.

"It was a very simple and clever trap. He gritted his teeth. "The wolf we are looking for must have given this coat to that man.

Triton threw his coat on a nearby bench, thankfully, because the smell was irritating me.

"So we've been deceived?" I asked a rhetorical question.

We turned and went back on our way, we had fallen into the trap, now we had to run and see if there was still time to save the next victim.
