Alex's phone rang, breaking their kiss.
Dunice stared at the phone which had fallen on her lap due to the kiss and saw "Susie" on the caller ID with a sunshine emoji. She wondered if Susie was Alex's sunshine.
She quickly answered on speaker before Alex could react.
She wanted to know who the lady was, she wouldn't take it likely if Alex was seeing someone else and yet blaming her for the shared kiss with Jeffrey
"Hello Lexie," Susie's cheerful voice greeted.
"Hi," Alex replied calmly, his tone belying the turmoil within him.
Alex felt trapped, realizing the delicate balance of conversing with Susie while Dunice was nearby. Despite there being no romantic involvement between him and Susie, her unrestrained nature made him wary. One offhand comment from her could potentially lead to undesirable consequences.
