Alex found Dunice coming out of the school gate with Alix the moment he highlighted from his car.
He was about to call out to them when Alix caught sight if him and screamed his name.
"Daddy!" Alix exlaimed happily.
Dunice gaze trailed to where Alix was looking at and she saw Alex standing at the back of the car.
At that time Alix had left her mum's side to hug her dad and Alex picked her up in his arms.
"Hi," Dunice said shyly as she walked over to him.
"I'm very sorry for coming late, I had some issues to deal with and I didn't know it was going to take much of my time," Alex apologized sincerely the moment Dunice came to stand in front of him.
Alex had called Dunice earlier on and promised to pick Alex from school. He knew he was late the moment he saw Dunice coming out from the school gate alongside Alix.
"It's fine," Dunice replied cooly.
"I actually had a business meeting with someone around a cafe here so I just decided to wait a few minutes to pick Alix up," She added.
"Oh!" He said with his mouth in an "O" shape.
"Uhm…did you bring your car?" He asked while looking around to see if he'll catch sight of her car.
"Jeffery drove me to my destination and took the car back," I'll just oder a taxi she said.
"Daddy I want fried chicken," Alix said in a small voice where she was busy fondling his hair.
"Let's go to a near by restaurant then," he said while looking at Dunice and she nodded.
He opened the door for her to get in and helped Alix at the back seat fasten her seatbelt.
"Don't do that!" Dunice exlaimed.
"Don't do what?" Alex asked while looking at dunice in a confused expression.
"I mean the seat belt….she's asthmatic," she said quickly.
"Oh! I'm sorry," Alex apologized and unfastened the seat belt. Closing the door he came to the driver's sit and began to drive off.
While driving his thought wandered to the fact that Alix was asmathic.
"There's a lot I still don't know," Alex thought to himself.
Alex could feel Dunice gaze on him as he drove.
"You look fluffy," she blurted.
"Ugh? Oh!....I do?" Alex said nervously.
"Yes….why are you so dressed casually?" she said as she took in his appearance
"A sweatshirt? A crocs? And baggy trousers too?" She had nver seen him dress so casually before.
"Aren't you going to work today?" she asked curiously and she noticed his hands tighten on the steering.
"That doesn't matter anymore because I already quit my job," he said and flashed her a smile.
Dunice: "!!!!!"
"What do you mean you quit your job when you are the CEO?" She asked wide eyed.
Alex pulled over in front of a large restaurant, and he came down to opened the door for shocked Dunice and he also carried alix who was in the back seat in his arms.
They sat in a table-for-three in a coner near a massive window.
The waiter brought a large tray, Which two plates and two cups containing a lap of chicken each and two orange juice. She placed each of them in front of little Alix and Dunice.
"Is there anything you'd like to eat sir," she asked Alex and coily and Dunice who noticed the tone she used in talking to Alex rolled her eyes internally.
"Champagne, a bottle of champagne would do he," he said quietly and the waiter left after stealing one more glance at him.
"So why did you quit and how is that even possible?" Dunice asked staring at him.
"Quiting means giving up on all the properties and buisness my father left in my care," Alex replied as he cut the chicken into bits and fed them to Alix who was beside him.
"And why?" Dunice asked quietly.
"I want peace, I've been dancing to my father's tunes since the day I was born and besides I'm not his only son so he can given the other son. He doesn't care about me," Alex said still feeding Alix.
'i'm sorry about that, what do you intend in doing tho?" Dunice asked worriedly.
"i'll be fine, I have money of my own and I also have shares with several companies so I believe I'll be fine for now," he said as he blinked.
Just then the waiter came back with the champagne.
"I'll serve it to you now," she said to Alex so seductively.
"Leave it, I'll do it," Dunice said sharply and yanked the champagne of the waiters hand. The waiter her sent her a glare and she left the table reluctantly.
Alex who noticed the little exchanged bit his lip to stop the grin from escaping his lips. When Dunice finished pouring him his drink she looked up at him in a confused expression.
"What's funny?" She asked as she flared at him.
"Nothing, just that you were cute back then," he said finally smiling and dunice cheeks heated in return.
"Shut up!" She said calmly.
"Eat, or do you you want me to feed you?" Alex asked Dunice teasingly and she quickly began to dig in.
Just then Alex sighted Jeffery and Madison.
"Hi, both of you,"he said as he waved slightly at them. And Dunice's head snapped backwards to catch sight of Jeffery and Madison.
"Why are they together!?!!" Dunice screamed internally.
"Hi, Alex" Jeffery replied numbly and went ahead.
"My little watermelon, how are you?" Madison said as she gave Alix a peck on her cheek.
"I'm fine," Alix replied mouthful.
Dunice gave Madison a "what's going on?" look and Madison wiggled her eyebrows in return andvquickly went after Jeffery.
"Oh! Poor thing," Dunice shook her head in pity for Jeff.
Earlier…..
"Oh I'm sorry the CEO just left some moments ago," the secretary at Dunice's company told Madison apologetically.
"It's okay," she said and left the reception.
"I wondered if she at home by this time," Madison mumbled to herself.
"You are standing in front if my car," she heard a man say from behind her.
"Oh I'm so-" Madison stopped halfway when she saw who just spoke.
"Oh, good afternoon," Jeff bowed.
"I'm so sorry I didn't know it was you," he quickly apologized his voice soft and genuine.
"Where are you headed?" He asked.
"I wanted to see Dunice but she isn't here so i just want to grab something to eat before going home," she replied.
"I also wanted to grab something nearby….you don't mind if we go to the same place do you?" He asked politely.
"Of course I fvcking don't!" Madison screamed in her head.
"Oh yeah," she said trying to appear cool as ever.
And with that they got into the car and drove off.
