A seven year old girl is seen in bed with her mother sitting at the edge of the bed.
"You have to get some sleep, Dawn." Her mother said while trying to tuck in the errant strands of her black straight hair to the back of her ear.
But Dawn was having none of it "But mom-"
"No buts... tomorrow is your big day you have to catch some sleep" That was right. Dawn was turning 8 the next day and her parents had planned a little party with her and her friends after school tomorrow.
Suddenly,a voice came from behind her mom.
"Seems like someone's having a bad time sleeping" Her dad said while strolling into the room leisurely.
"I can't sleep.....I should probably go check the dress you got for me" She said already getting out of the bed to be drawer back by her father.
"Woah...woah...woah...slow down there champ" He said while grabbing her shoulders and gently pushing her shoulders down to have her sit on the bed.
"This is like the 1000th time you've checked your dress today" Her mother said while rolling her eyes with a hint of smile.
"It's just soo perfect" Said Dawn her eyes trailing back to her cupboard where the dress was folded nicely.
"I know right??... Daddy's got the best taste" Pride was evident in her dad's tone.
"We both picked the dress" Her mom said in a matter of fact tone while staring at her husband in disbelief.
"Yes we did....but I... Dawn's father picked the perfect colour that soothes her perfectly.Am I right,my lovely?" He asked, kissing he's wife's knuckles which made Dawn giggle and turn her face away at the everyday sight.
Dawn's parents,Shawn Artemis and Evelyn Artemis, were the perfect couple to everyone around. While Shawn had a bright easy going character that can make you laugh in a serious situation, Evelyn was more of a serious and hard to read person, that was often persived as a cold demeanor,She runs a restaurant downstairs, while her husband is a child psychologist.
"What if daddy reads you a bedtime story to help you sleep" She said while fiddling her hands through the drawer to find her usual bedtime story book.
"Nope...not again" Her husband said stopping her from handing him the book.
"We would need a special bedtime story for a special birthday girl" He said while grinning from ear to ear.
Evelyn could tell her husband was cooking something out of the ordinary again so she stood up "I should probably leave you two alone,I need to get some sleep so as to prepare early for the party"
She said while giving her daughter a forehead's kiss "Good night Dawn"
"Good night mama" She said watching her mom leave the room.
"Okay!!!...Now that's she's gone" He said while rolling his eyes.
"Dad...!!" She drawed.
"Alright!! Alright....The name of my story is 'The Forbidden Hybrid'" He said while making sure he's voice sounded mysterious enough.
Dawn looked up to him with her black obsidian eyes through her thick long eyelashes, giving him a look of confusion "What's an hybrid??"
"Hmmm...how do I put this" Her dad seemed deep in thoughts which only heightened her curiosity.
"An Hybrid is a mixture of two different species" He tried to put it in the most simple manner.
"Like Ana's dog which is a breed of a German Shepherd and a golden retriever" She asked looking up at him.
A bright smile full of pride was plastered on Shawn's face "That's my girl" He looked back at the mini digital clock sitting on her drawer and it showed '9:58'.
"I guess it's time to go to sleep now, my lovely" He said already standing up to leave.
"But dad-"she whined and grabbed his hand to stop him from leaving.
"-no buts....we don't want you having dark circles in your pictures tomorrow,do we?" He asked with one eyebrow up.Dawn wondered if it was just her or do her parents love cutting off her sentences.
Shawn seeing no reply from his daughter, stood up with a queasy smile "Yeah.... that's what I thought"
"Goodnight,My lovely" He said and gave her a quick forehead kiss.
"Goodnight dad" she smiled against his kiss.
Before he could turn off the lights, he said without turning back to her "Happy birthday in advance,My lovely" And then he turned off the lights walking out.
