Chapter 17 - Practice to become more proficient.

After completing the daily routine Mariel searches Deric's bookshelf for a book about wind magic but most of them only had books on fire magic, water magic, and ice magic. She searched until she found one that was about wind magic and this book looked smaller than others.

Mariel picked it up and studied it on the study table in her bedroom. After several hours, it was found that the importance of this type of magic is clearly inferior to other types. It is mostly used to fend off enemies when they are near or prepared to escape from the battle. Sometimes it is used to fight water magic, but it doesn't have much of an advantage. Just like Elf Erin said, there was nothing. People learned less about wind magic, and it was almost forgotten.

"I will practice wind magic and use it better than anyone else." Mariel said with determination.

At night, Mariel would secretly wake up in the middle of the night to practice wind magic with Erin. The more often she practices, the more her wind magic skills will advance. Erin taught all the knowledge that she had to Mariel. If she had one person dedicated to inheriting her knowledge, it was considered to be what she had most wished for.

*Waft* The sound of wind that Mariel made from her palms swept all the leaves and grass combine in one pile.

"Well done. That's it, you've completed wind magic at same level as me." Erin said with admiration.

Mariel stood still for a moment. It's like she's still not satisfied with the results.

"Is something wrong? Mariel." Erin asked curiously.

"Would it be good if I applied it in offensive attacks as well?" Marielle asked curiously.

"I have tried to learn and practice many methods but it's not satisfactory at all. It really can only provide attack support for the party." Erin explained.

Mariel pondered in her heart as if she wanted to use some methods with something.

Mariel slowly spread her hands out in front of her and gathering wind magic power into her palms, she created a storm wave about 2 meters in front of her.

Mariel then slowly stepped into the windstorm in front of her, but she was blown away by the windstorm until she fell on the ground with her face.

"Ouch! that hurts." Mariel said, brushing off the dust that was all over her face. There are slight abrasions on her face.

"Don't do that, it's dangerous." Erin begged.

"No, I believe there must be a way that to be able to take advantage of this wind magic." Mariel still believed in her own thoughts.

Mariel repeated this method several times until the wound was scratched and there were bruises all over the body, but she used healing magic to heal herself every time.

"Ouch!" Mariel shouted after fail again, she felt exhausted, and sat on the ground.

"How about a break for tonight? You've used too much magic power." Erin warned with concern.

"OK, but I absolutely refuse to give up. One day I will succeed!" Mariel still believed in her mind as usual.

Mariel said goodbye to Erin before returning to her bedroom for resting.

A week has passed and still no success. Until sometimes Mariel was secretly discouraged as well.

"Is this wind magic really only able to use for support the party?" Mariel thought alone in the back of the house. Her eyes looked at the stream of water. Grasslands and various flowers blowing in the passing wind.

"The wind blows really cool." Mariel said with a smile.

For a moment, her beloved pony, a unicorn that was released with stallions and mare out of the barn to graze the surrounding area. It slowly approached and sat beside Mariel with its head rubbing her head all over her.

"It tickles, Unicorn." Mariel said and played with Unicorn.

Mariel then brought Unicorn back to the barn, equipped with a saddle on the horse's back and rode together into the wide fields near the house.

"Run! Unicorn, just like that." Mariel commanded, which Unicorn responded in kind.

Whether it's steering left or right, running hard and then slowing down, everything looks as easy as her command.

"You know me very well. You can do whatever I want. It's like we're being one." Mariel said.

Then...Mariel stopped and thought about something. It's like she remembered one of the most important things.

"That's it! Become one, that's right!" Mariel shouted with happiness as if she'd gotten the answer that she'd been looking for.

Mariel rode Unicorn back to the barn and led it into the stables. Then she sat alone quietly at the back of the house as usual. Slowly closed her eyes and tried to keep her mind calm, then let her mind drift in the wind and not distracted, thinking about other things.

After a while, Mariel's body felt lighten up and felt every movement around her. Even the sound of the grass moving in the wind was clearly audible.

(Release your body and mind, become one with the wind and keep chanting in my mind) (Chai thinking)

Suddenly, the light green line of Qi in Mariel's body slowly merged with the main line of Qi. It was considered to be another leap towards becoming a swordsman in the future.

Mariel slowly opened her eyes, which were now clearly a light shade of green. A smile slowly appeared like a victorious one.

Mariel stood up and gathered her magic power into two palms, then sent out a large wave of wind magic in front of her.

This time there was no fear at all about what was in front of her. Mariel slowly stepped into the storm and reached the center of the storm's waves. Then she slowly closed her eyes and let herself flow along with the waves of the storm within.

Mariel's body slowly rose until it reached the top of the storm. When she opened her eyes, she found herself becoming one with this windstorm and could control the direction quickly or slowly as she desired.

"It was successful, yes!!!" Mariel cried out with joy.

Mariel then gradually trained more frequently until she began to develop a more proactive approach to fighting which Erin admired and saw her do even more than Erin did.

Until the day came to try out a new wind magic. Deric is recovering from treatment for his chronic back pain and was able to hold the magic wand again, and prepared to fight against his daughter, Mariel.

"Alright, are you ready? Mariel" Deric asked.

"Always ready, Dad." Mariel answered confidently.

Deric immediately cast an ice magic spell. As for Mariel, she used a fire sword magic to fight. Two magical powers collided fiercely, but Mariel's fire magic was obviously at a disadvantage.

"What is it? Mariel. Was that all you've improved?" Deric said with doubt.

Mariel didn't answer, but there was a slight smile on her mouth.

Going through many steps, everything seemed to be the same as Mariel was at a disadvantage with every attack and had to dodge Deric's ice magic until she could barely survive.

But...when the timing came, Mariel slowly closed her eyes and chanted another form of magic. The red line of magic power gradually changed into a light green line.

"This magic...or was it wind magic? When did you secretly complete your wind magic? Mariel." Derick said with doubt.

Mariel slowly opened her eyes which appeared to be light green eyes. Then, she cast a wind magic storm and slammed it at Deric immediately.

"This isn't bad, come on!" Deric said as he also cast a storm of ice magic.

Two waves of storm collided with each other until they both disintegrated together. Then, they all slammed countless amounts of wind and ice magic energy at each other.

*Clatter! * The sound of magics clashing.

Mariel got a chance and cast another wind magic storm, but this time Mariel jumped into that storm, stayed in the center, and forced this storm to attack Deric without fear.

"How could you do this? Very talented, Mariel. But that's all you got?" Deric said as he cast his ultimate which was Ice Magic Spear to defeat his daughter in this attack.

The Ultimate Ice Magic Spear prepared to pierce Mariel in the wind magic storm at close range. If she didn't hurry to dodge, she might be seriously injured from this spear.

"I got you! .... No way!!!" Deric seemed to recognize the danger in front of him, but it was too late.

Mariel let out a smile on her mouth. When the ice magic spear was about to pierce her in the center of the storm, it found nothing but emptiness because Mariel jumped and did a somersault after suddenly turning away from the storm. This caused Deric's Ultimate Ice Magic Spear to feel like it was being sucked into the center of the storm until it can't be forced anymore.

Ouch! Deric gritted his teeth, his two hands controlling the magic wand that cast ice magic spear was like being sucked into a storm that was too difficult to control.

"I got you! Dad" Mariel said.

This battle ended quickly. Mariel's sword was pointed at Deric's throat, which had no response. Deric was quite shocked about losing the trigger for this attack.

"This wasn't bad...I really didn't expect you to be able to apply wind magic to this extent. Normally it was only used to blow away enemies or only support other people's attacks in the party."

"But you're the first person to be able to use a combination of attacks in wind magic and others." Deric admired.

Mariel smiled widely at being praised so much.

"But…" Deric's tone suddenly began to change to something frightening that made Mariel was terrified. The surrounding atmosphere started to feel cold, like being in the middle of an ice field.

"Ice force field in all directions!" Deric said as he cast another round of his ultimate ice magic. This time turned the surrounding area into an ice battlefield, causing Mariel to shiver with coldness.

"Dad. What are you doing? Why do you use this ultimate ice magic?" Mariel asked curiously because this is the highest level of ice magic power used for actual combat when encountering Dekiran. The expression on Deric's face at that time was that was a fight for his life to the death.

"Well! You're really getting better at this, Dad admitted it. But... you made me lose this time. I had to give you a special reward!" Deric said as he cast 10 ice magic spears around him, preparing to attack Mariel and this made she had no chance of escape.

"Oh my god!" Mariel shouted.

*Clatter*

The sound of the ice spear and counted more than 10 ice storms hit Mariel, causing her to fall apart. The ice force field would allow Deric's ice magic to gain more powerful attacks. It also made the opponent who used other types of magic unable to cast their magic efficiently.

"Dad! Please! It hurts! I'm sorry. Forgive me! Don't do it to me! Ouch!!!" Mariel begged for her life and tried to fight back but she couldn't and hardly did any harm to her father.

"In front of my ultimate ice magic field, you're still just a little kid, take it!" Deric cast a large ice spell and taught his daughter that she couldn't fight against him at all.

After this, Mariel lay in pain, exhausted. There were countless wounds from the ice shards all over her body and this made her hardly stand up and fight again.

"That's enough! Deric. This could kill your daughter, you know? Claudia ran out of the house to see the result of this battle.

"No, just gently teach Mariel, that's all." Deric said.

"What are you teaching? This technique is only used for serious fighting, and you use it to Mariel!" Claudia scolded.

"Alright! Alright! I will go and restore my strength first. As for Mariel, you are still weak." Deric said as he grabbed his magic wand and walked back into the house.

Claudia used healing magic to heal Mariel's wounds and restored her power to be normal again. She gently picked up her daughter and brought her back into the house.

"By the way, I admired you. To the point that your father was able to use his ultimate ice magic field technique on you. It showed that your skills had progressed a lot." Claudia said with a smile.

"*Sob*...I won't do this again...got my dad to be serious. I almost couldn't survive." Mariel said through tears.

Claudia patted her daughter's head affectionately before taking her back into the house to get something warm to eat.
