Deep dark bruises on his torso, his bulletproof vest having warded off the worst of a bullet's impact. A black eye, someone having gotten in a lucky shot. A broken arm, a sprained leg.
All things that spoke of danger, and a constant threat to life. And while Elle did not actively look away from it, but it was a part of the life she chose not to look too deeply into. Even after she had seen Gio kill in cold blood, Elle had somehow managed to push it all aside.
