Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: In the City

A young boy, with luscious silky black hair that was long enough to almost reach his neck, rested on the back of a wooden wagon. The wagon hit a bumpy road and seemingly awoke the child.

When the boy opened his eyes, a pair of dazzling purple irises shone with a glint.

"Ohhh, you woke up. Right on time, actually, we are about to enter the great city of Lithum."

Inside the wagon, the boy had company. The voice came from a much more older man, with disheveled hair but spirited eyes. He spoke with pride in his voice.

The boy with the unique purple eyes looked out via the open back of the wagon, there he saw the view of the nearing city.

It was majestic to say the least, with walls that reached a dozen or so meters, towering buildings that went past the walls threatening to reach the skies. He could only look at it with wide eyes.

"Finally..." He muttered under his breath.

______

We neared the walls, needless to say, I was looking forward to what awaited inside.

"Hmmm, is it your first time being in the city?" Fuego asked. I turned my head towards him, and I nodded.

Fuego was the son of the one driving the wagon whom both were saved by me.

It happened just a few hours ago.

After going through the portal, I appeared near a road, I happened to have heard some commotion and went to check it out.

Turns out, they were being ganged up by the local bandits of the area.

There were only three bandits, moreover, they weren't mages or anything, though they did have some shocking physical abilities that were beyond the norm, it wasn't anything that I couldn't handle.

I simply conjured my Lightning Serpent spell to incapacitate them.

Both the father and son were very grateful to me, I asked them to lead me to the nearest city as compensation, which they were headed to already.

They gladly let me hitch a hike.

And here we are...

________

After the checkpoints were done, we managed to successfully enter the city.

Not even an hour after we set foot in the other side of the walls, I bid them farewell.

"This is it then." I said with a smile. I was glad that they had led me to the city even if I just tagged along.

"No, we should be the one thanking you." Fuego uttered with gratefulness in his voice.

"Ohh, remember what I said to you, never go inside too deep into the core of the city." He reminded.

I nodded and waved them goodbye.

I took a deep breath and looked back, a new chapter of my life was about to begin.

The city was filled with humans wearing all kinds of clothes, there were some who simply wore common clothes whilst there were other who wore leather armors with swords on their waist, there were also others who wore robes etc.

The city was diverse in many ways.

Buildings made up of wood and bricks were everywhere. Some stood low, some stood high.

There were people selling things on the streets, and there were others who were looking around.

It felt surreal actually.

I shook my head, I looked at my inner clothes that were a bit more than just dirty.

First goal in the city — buy myself some clothes.

I asked around, trying to find a place where I could buy clothes.

Still, I found that people were avoiding me for some reason. Everytime I closed in on them, they start backing up.

"Uhmmm, where can I buy some clothes?"

I asked a man who was walking by.

He too, took a step back, pinched his nose and with wrinkled eyebrows and spat out, "You stink! Go take a bath first you beggar!"

"Be-beggar?!" I was left dumbfounded as the man hurriedly went on his way. I stood there with anger swelling in my chest.

I tried to get a hold of my emotions, I was in the city now, I have to act civilized. I took a deep breath and smelled myself.

"Do I really stink?" I wondered in my mind.

Now that you mention it, throughout the ride to the city, I noticed quite a lot that Fuego's eyes would occasionally squint and his nose would wrinkle.

Maybe it was true?

All right then, second goal in the city — take a proper bath.

Even though I took baths in the forest lakes, it seems it's not enough to rid of the blood stench and animal guts.

Somehow, I managed to find an inn where I rented a room.
