Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Mana Spirit

Her long hair was a flowing water! As if that was now shocking enough, under its beautiful clear eyes were scales, scales!

Glistening blue scales that resembled diamonds.

It was a fascinating yet gorgeous creature.

It was like a doll kids used to play.

The doll wore lenin clothes that made it give off an air of elegance, it flowed comfortably and glided through its white unblemished skin.

The doll looked like an angel!

"Wh-what are you?" I stuttered.

The creature looked at me with curiosity and pointed at itself, nodding. I blinked not understanding.

My eyes fell on the pieces of the shattered sphere, looking again at the seemingly harmless doll, I connected the dots.

I came up with a conclusion.

Thi-this creature couldn't have been hatched from that sphere right?...or was it an egg?

The sphere came from the waters right? And seeing that the doll also seemed to have some attribute towards water — as I realized the moment my eyes landed on its liquid-like substance for hair, that there was a connection.

Also, another thing, the sphere sucked away my mana right? And for what purpose?

For a fetus to be born, it needs nourishment right? Then could have my mana been served as a means of nourishment so that the sphere — no, the egg, would hatch?

So, in a way, I am sort of its father right?

Then, this creature was, in a way, my child?

No, this was all just assumptions, I shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. But looking at its show of affection and intimacy — curling in between my hands, it was probable.

Wait...could this possibly be a spirit? A mana spirit?

According to my memories — which I acquired along with my advancement to tier-2, spirits are creatures born in areas densely packed with mana so their kind is very rare.

It is said that spirits are born not from copulation but naturally. They are born from nature itself, they are born from mana so it is common to say that their affinity with mana is through the roof.

Spirits are powerful and are hard to come by, what were my chances of seeing one hatch right before my eyes?

They say that a mages best companion is a spirit.

But I had a lingering doubt on my mind, how had a spirit been born here? Wasn't it said that spirits are born from places densely-packed with mana?

Well, this cave surely didn't seem to fit the description.

Abruptly, the spirit jolted, I was a bit startled as I saw the spirit close in on my forehead, for some reasons unknown, I didn't show any sign of vigilance and let the spirit touch my forehead.

Perhaps it was because, for some reason, there was this deep feeling of trust and even a bit of...familiarity coming from the spirit.

I could somehow feel its sincerity, which was a bit weird.

Soon enough, images flashed in my mind and soon I understood.

Turns out, the pond wasn't any ordinary one, it was a mana spring! In it was dense yet very pure mana which resulted in the spirit's birth. Since spirits needed nourishment, it fed off the waters containing dense and pure mana.

Though, just before hatching, the pond was sucked dry of mana and only a little residue was left.

That was when I came in, I had the mana that was lacking for it to hatch, though it was able to absorb my mana at first — when I willingly soaked in its waters, it was still insufficient.

However, when I picked up the egg, it was able to absorb enough mana for it to hatch.

In other words, if I had not been present, the egg wouldn't have hatched at all. It would've probably died, it was also probably the reason that spirits only hatch in areas densely-packed with mana so it would accommodate for its need of nourishment to hatch — which made sense.

Still, that would mean that for the spirit to grow powerful, I would need to accommodate its needs.

And who knows how troublesome it would be.

Enough of that, it was a talk for the future, and I had to focus on the present.

The spirit grabbed my finger pulling me out of my thoughts, it then pulled me towards the nearby pond — well, at least it tried to.

Anyway, I was a bit distrustful, I never wanted to step my feet in the water ever again after what happened.

Still, I felt no hostile intent from the creature, the only thing I felt from her really was warmth and love, like how a daughter would feel towards her father.

My instinct also told me that there would be no danger, so my distrust was put aside.

What does it want? I wondered.
