Chapter 5 - The Escape

CHAPTER FIVE

THE ESCAPE

Aria's POV

Tell me I didn't just read that. Such an evil letter, who was it even for? I asked myself. I had just read a letter by Lucas that had a content of how my life and that of my family would be once he becomes the alpha of his pack. Maybe I made a mistake loving him. Maybe I shouldn't have fallen for him. Maybe I should have mated and got marked by him. Just maybe! I yelled.

Lucas had just hurt me. He had hurt me so bad like he used it. He could do anything to me and I would endure but how could he plan to execute my father and pack once he becomes his pack's alpha? How could he? How could Lucas? Here I was, hoping and waiting on him to reciprocate my feelings for him without knowing that it would remain just a dream that would never come true. How could he harbor these evil thoughts and plans towards me? If he didn't want to marry me, he could have said so! He could have declined!

I was deep in thoughts and still trying to put the paper aside, setting it same way I saw it before Scarlett got to me. She had just entered his study den, startling me.

"Scarlett, what are you doing?" I queried. I wasn't expecting her to just show up.

"Nothing, Aria. I just sensed you might need my presence," she replied.

"You came at the right time," I sobbed

She rushed over to me, engulfing me in a warm hug.

"Do you know the content of this letter?" I inquired, pulling away.

"No, I don't," she answered innocently

"Lucas wrote them. He wants us dead once he becomes alpha. Lucas, planned to kill all us all from the Bloodmoon pack, including my father,"

She gasped, her hand covering her mouth.

I cleaned my eyes of tears, breathing in and out profusely. It suddenly felt like a strong power had taken hold of me. I felt strong, kind of. I wasn't scared like I used to be.

"We need to leave," I blurted out

"What? Like, escape?" She asked, her eyeballs almost popping out of its sockets.

"Yes, Scarlett. We need to run away from Lucas. We need to run from this blood thirty animals. This peace treaty my father proposed to them is void, we need to leave immediately," I commanded.

"But…"

"There are no buts, Scarlett,"

I knew she wanted to ask about our luggage, but there was really no time for that. Our lives and that of my father was at stake and I needed to save them.

"Hold my hand," I urged, pulling Scarlett behind me as we hurried through the winding corridors of the tower fortress.

Lucas was around in the tower fortress, I just didn't know exactly the room he was in. He'd probably be in his father's meeting chambers. It was evident that he was power thirsty thus, he always enters his Alpha Roberts chambers, reading his governing bulletin and all.

"What if he catches a whiff of our scent and suspects something?" She mumbled

I quickened my pace and reassured her, "Before he can even sense us, we'll be long gone,"

She nodded in approval and continued walking behind me. As we walked through the fortress, our footsteps hushed as we kept our senses sharp. But just when we thought we were in the clear, Lucas emerged from a nearby corridor, his expression dark and foreboding.

I could hear the footsteps of his servants, walking behind him, coming from different directions of corridors. His father, Alpha Robert was approaching us too but instead of giving off a dark expression, he was rather confused.

Confused? How come? Was he pretending? Or didn't his killer son tell him of his evil plans? Bunch of muderers, I cussed inwardly.

"Oh, I heard that, btch," he cussed back, using his senses.

Without a second thought, Scarlett and I turned and bolted in the opposite direction. Lucas, roared in anger as he realized what we were up to. Hastily, he sent his loyal and shameless minions after us.

Luckily for us, we were able to leave the fortress. But still, they still ran after us. Running into the woods, I transformed into my wolf. My silver brush through the grasses as I ran and howled. Scarlett, on the other hand couldn't transform. She was an omega who was yet to find her wolf self but regardless, she ran along with me.

I ran for what felt like eternity till we were unable to either see or perceive their scents anymore. Tired, we resulted to sitting down under a dead oak trea right there in the woods. Gradually, I transformed back to my human self, naked and panting heavily.

Scarlett, pulled off one of her maid attire and gave to me. Was she really wearing two dresses at the same time? I asked myself. Well, it saved me.

We were still resting under the oak tree when our serenity got interrupted by bunch of hunters.

"Who are they?" I asked rhetorically

"Hunters," Scarlett answered simply.

Before I could say another word, they got to us. They appeared like they were going to hurt us. They wanted to hurt us, actually.

We stood up hastily, with Scarlett in front of me, she ordered that I stay behind her, with her hands backward apart.

"Stay behind me, Aria," she commanded

She turned her gaze towards the hunters, "Leave us alone, we're just escapees," she stated

As if what Scarlett said meant "Attack us," they rushed us immediately.

I tried to run but I fell and sprained my ankle. I didn't feel pain immediately anyway so I stood up immediately to run.

"Go without me, I'll be behind you," Scarlett called out.

"No! No, Scarlett!" I yelled

"Aria please," she implored

"I can't leave without you!" I yelled again. The distance between us had began to get longer. I was really going to leave Scarlett behind. My heart broke at the thought of it.

"I'll be fine, Aria. Just go, I'll see you soon!" She yelled.

Immediately, I turned and ran as fast as my legs could carry me, departing totally from Scarlett's sight.

"What would I do without her?" I asked myself but there was no reply.

Just as I was about to jump over a fallen tree, a hand from nowhere grabbed me, startling life out of me. Immediately, I fell, darkness covering everywhere.
