Chapter 2
"Goodnight Hara sweet dreams." My father and mother said in unison while tucking me in. "Night, Night Hara." Olaf said waving to me. Closing my eyes they all walked out and closed the door behind them.
Yes finally after weeks I can safely say I can somewhat control my arms. That's right you heard it folks not only did I learn to control my arms in my previous world but here also. Sometimes I surprise myself with my greatness. While I control my arms they still lack the muscle strength and control to support my body which would allow me to crawl.
I will soon learn no need to rush. Though I can't crawl I can pick things up now which helped me understand textures of things in this world for example. When I had some sort of meat for dinner it felt rough. I don't know if this world has chiefs but the meat seems overly burnt, which is not unexpected. These people don't seem the type to form delicacies.
Also I have learned that the Circular stones or gems that I saw in town feel somewhat hollow inside like the gem is not filled with something but I can tell something is in there. On the other hand the jagged stones that were there feel much harder in full similar to the ones in my world.
Also gramps has been visiting more often and sparing with Olaf and taking care of me when my parents aren't here. While I thought that the grizzly was my father's dad, to my surprise my mom is his daughter. While they act the same, my father and gramps don't really talk much to each other. Anyway when my gramps would visit he read me bedtime stories that I begrudgingly enjoyed only because it gave me knowledge on the world's customs. Though the man was very frightening he was kind and was very gentle to me and Olaf. When he and Olaf spared he made sure to always give him advice like my father.
On the topic of Olaf it seems that he is inspired to be a swordsman then eventually a knight after he gains experience as a hunter. (Hunters are people who go to many lands and hunt down mana beasts then sell them for coins.) While I don't know much of the world I can tell that Olaf can make it big. He is very kind and has an amazing personality and he is one of if not the smartest child I had ever met. It's kind of scary. Especially when he's fighting it's similar to someone I knew like their dancing on the battlefield. Though I was the strongest I sometimes got jealous of the people who could look so beautiful when they were doing the same as me, killing.
Anyway, I have grown a lot. I finally have visible hair on my head and though I can't see myself my father and gramps say I have my mom's eyes.
Hmm now that I think about when I eventually learn how to write, I should get a journal. It's nice being able to let out my thoughts like this.
Part 2
I have conquered thousands of battlefields and slayed every enemy in my path. I didn't ask for respect, I demanded it. With a wave of my hand I could cause the end of millions. I dueled anyone and everyone, never losing, beating everybody in the king's game, keeping my country as one of the strongest while also keeping stability by having all citizens know my Authority never being threatened off the throne.
All those who did though tried then failed. But it wasn't just my strength I was known for having one of if not the greatest minds in human history, rivaling the likes of Einstein, and Edison though they're like chumps now compared to the real modern geniuses. Though I had all these achievements under my belt I have never been as proud as I am now. I can talk and crawl!
The past months in this new world have been hard but I have finally conquered the trial of a newborn now I am a baby. When I began to crawl was when we were having breakfast and I was set down by the couch to wait so my parents could set the table. It happened so suddenly I just felt this strength rush through me then it happened. Though my parents were exhilarated when it happened it's not compared to when I spoke my first words.
"Say dada Hara, come on say it." Gavin said in a baby voice. Stop bothering me. I'm not going to be speaking anytime soon. "Come on say it." Gavin kept pestering.
Shut up was what I was trying to say but "Dada" came out instead. "Hah you said oh my gosh you said Dada was your first word." Gavin jumped for joy while picking me up. Fuck I wanted my first word to be Mama.
Whatever at least he'll shut up about now. (Disclaimer he did not.)
After these two instances my life has been pretty calm. I still occasionally go out shopping with my mother, sometimes with Olaf as well.
'But till now all I had was bedtime stories and conversations from my parents, gramps, and strangers in town who would sometimes visit. Olaf would also sometimes tell some cool adventure story about a man with long white hair slaying a ferocious red dragon. These instances gave me hints on world customs and folklore which made the structure of the world.'
Bremndal Gorah, Major of black stone. My gramps has been the head of black stone for longer than my mom has been alive. He was a great leader and the people loved him. When he would walk with us around town people would greet him and shake his hand with the utmost respect.
Gavin Flyrow, former adventurer, he had a great experience in his former job. Apparently he was an A class adventurer that was part of a 10 man squad that he co led. Also my mother was a part of this team. Anyway they made it big and got a big reward. Because of the reward my mother and father decided to settle down because they already had a child Olaf. Apparently Olaf is a child born on the road, maybe that's why he's so good at fighting. Anyway my father was very happy to brag about the fact that my mom suggested the idea to live a cozy life with four kids. I could assume he was lying because he got smacked in the neck by my mother.
Frey Flyrow formerly known as Frey Gorah. Also a former A class adventurer. She was a very valuable member of the squad and was a main member. She eventually retired.
My name is Harald Nero Flyrow, known formerly as General Knox. I also have the nickname Hara. While I have already shown my disgust in the name after I saw myself in the mirror I could confirm that I had my fathers dark brown curly hair and my mothers caramel skin and glowing green eyes. Not to brag but I was an adorable baby just imagine how good I'm gonna look in the future.
After weeks had passed I had more control over my body and I could crawl effectively and could travel a farther distance(20ft). Eventually when exploring the house I found our family work area or library. I was unsupervised because my mother was cooking, my father was at work and god knows what Olaf and gramps are doing. I could tell that my mother was annoyed when she found me out of my crib. Whispering she said "Ha seems like you're more energetic than Olaf or Gavin." I wouldn't go that far mom.
Part 3
Closing the weighty tome known as 'Basic Knowledge – Thomas Fro,' I pondered the underdeveloped state of this world. Limited water sources, unconventional transportation (riding bears, really?), and an alarming ease in acquiring weapons marked this peculiar place.
As a former ruler in my past world, I chuckled at the simplicity of the political landscape here – a dictatorship under Odin Bigard. Countries were a matter of debate – two, three, or six, depending on the source. Denfrank for humans, Elfhiem for elves, and Albina for gnomes, hobbits, and dwarves were the known players.
But even though I had learned so much knew knowledge Mana and Magic peeked my interest the most.
Though I was not unfamiliar with the topic of a power source to boost fighting capabilities. Magic seemed to be a normal thing in this world; almost everybody had the ability to use it.
Magic was more ingrained in a more practical sense for this civilization. While ESO became common in some ways because there were more practitioners of the art. ESO was inside of you and that was an indisputable fact. ESO was the core inside you. ESO was engraved in your body; it was a part of you, it was an extension of yourself. You could train ESO so it can become and absorb more inner energy to strengthen your unique ability.
But in this world the power source was called mana and instead of it being only inside you mana was everywhere and anywhere at all times. It helped the world function as a whole it essentially allowed the world to spin every living thing needed mana even the earth itself. Because those who dived in the art of magic could take mana from the surrounding atmosphere and use it as their own by manipulating it and moving it in ways you would never imagine. They were able to do this because mana also existed in them; it's what allowed them to live, breathe , sleep and eat. Then after taking the surrounding mana inside them they could build what was called a mana body.
"Mana body starts off with a brain, and heart then builds off from there. You can only build a mana brain and heart by coming in contact with a lot of pure mana. Still it's only a 40/60% chance of building these by force. Most of the time people get both attributes by the age of 10 to 20 if it's created without force. When a person makes a mana brain you get the ability to control, and move mana inside you to your will or give orders to it. When you have full control of your mana body you can add mana to your inner supply also known as mana heart. Mana heart stores all of your mana supply and spreads around the body think of mana as your blood. After you can build the rest of your mana body you need to understand the body part you're building. An example would be if you want to build mana nerves you have to know the structure of it, and the uses for it in your body. Mana body can be any shape or size it just depends on how much mana you store in you, and which body you feel most comfortable in."
It was strange not only did mana exist in nature it existed in living things as well something like accepting everything as nature. After learning these new things I could tell that mana was less discriminating. In the art of ESO you have set the amount of inner energy and how big the ESO was important because A human is not the size of a whole world. But for this world you have an almost endless amount of energy to take and charge off of. The amount of mana that you were born with did not determine how strong you will be.
So if I were to practice the art of magic the same way I did with ESO how strong could I be. Though I was not blessed with a large amount of inner energy in my previous life in fact I thought I didn't have any but, I used it sparingly and thought about my every move with it. With mana though I have no restrictions on how much I can get. Internal or external it doesn't matter what art I choose I could become the best at it and I will. I will become much stronger than I ever was in my past life I swear on it.
"There you are Hara time for lunch come on." My father said behind while picking me up. Dad, I am beginning my journey of becoming the greatest wizard in human history. I do not need lunch at the moment. That's what I wanted to say but I knew the sentence was far too advanced for my underdeveloped mouth to say.
Ok if I want to get good I have learned, I thought. After my mother and father put me to bed I will sneak through the big hole in the crib then go to the library.
"Goodnight Hara sweet dreams." My family said. After they saw me shut my eyes they slowly walked out of the room and left a crack in the door. Ok step one of learning more about magic is a go.
I slowly crawled through the hole and landed on the soft blankets in the corner of my room then I crawled to the door and pushed the door open. I looked left and right to make sure the coast was clear then started the second part of my mission make it to the library. I felt like a super spy the way I was crawling. I'm sure I broke a record for the fastest crawler in the world.
'Whew' I finally made it to the library. After opened the door I plotted down on my belly in exasperation because of how tired I was.
Anyway, let's get to work. After a few minutes of searching I finally found a book. It answered many unanswered questions from the dictionary that I had read beforehand.
"How magic works for newbies 'by Richard Joodson."
Hmm looks legit.
"Though people don't like to admit it, the use of magic is largely genetic. For example those who had parents that were able to manipulate mana would have a higher chance of also being able to manipulate mana than a person whose parents weren't able to. Not to mention only 10 out of hundred children were able to use sense mana and both of them had parents who were able to manipulate mana. Now on the topic of mana body only 10 out of 1,000 children have a mana brain, but if you are lucky and you are able to create it will be obvious because your mana brain is underdeveloped and will surge out of you and in some instances destroy some things around you." While the statistics did humble me a little I still had faith in the fact I had prior knowledge.
So I flipped through some of the pages and found something interesting.
'Another way to utilize mana is spell casting. Spell casting is using incantation or an Array to form a spell. They are split into 4 categories 1.Attack/ Using a spell to attack 2.Defense/ Using a spell to defend from outside force 3.Healing/ Using a spell to heal target or one's self. 4. Transmutation/ Breaking done mana to a fundamental state for a different use.' "Hmm" So it seems mana body is used to morph your mana in a more controlled stat, while spell casting is taking the mana you already have, and turning it into a separate force. Also it seems while both types can manipulate mana from the start only mana body users can truly control their mana inside themselves.
Reading on, I saw another interesting section.
"While there are multiple techniques, some techniques work better with specific mages. The two main types of mages are conjurers who mainly use magic to project mana outwards. While augmenter's who use magic to project inwards mainly focusing on boosting their physical capabilities."
"Conjures are usually not in front lines and will project shards or other shapes towards a specific target; they also surround targets with mana."
"Now that we have explained the two categories and what they are usually capable of we will now go over their weaknesses. While augmenters are very powerful their major weakness is the normal range of their attacks. When you are fighting an augmenter in close combat you would need to be on guard at all times but if you were far enough to avoid the range of his fists or feet you would be safe."
"The main weakness for a conjur is the fact the average spell needs mana taken from the outside area to be casted. Most normal mages don't have enough mana in their mana body to cast spells that are strong enough to make a dent on a tree."
"Both of these mages have their ups and downs. This is clear through the fact there are many ways to measure the strength of each category."
"Augmenters mainly measure strength through your development in your mana nerves in their body, which controls how mana is flowing in a more internal level if you were to have well developed mana nerves you would almost have full control of how you want to use the mana inside your body. Also since augmenters rely on close quarter battles the nerves also control the speed of the transferring mana in your body all from the brain."
"Conjurer's are measured by the developed mana viens. Mana veins are in charge of transfers as well but in this case the veins are connected to the mana heart. The mana heart is only second in importance to the mana brain when it comes to the mana body. The heart distributes mana through the veins which helps the conjurers use spells proficiently. The veins help connect you to the outside world so conjurors usually have a more mana since than augmenters."
"The reason we have decided to make these two categories is because trying to be a close range fighter while also being a long range mage is going to take forever. Only those who have extreme talent and devote their lives to the art of mana only then can you be somewhat proficient at both."
After reading these few pages I have deduced that my father was a competent augmenter and a horrid conjurer. While my gramps was also a decent augmenter I haven't seen him spell cast yet so I have no clue if he is a good conjurer.
What was confusing was it only mentioned healing spells once. What type of magic does my mother use? Is she special?
I flipped through a few pages until I found my answer.
Here it is.
"In the world of augmenters and conjures there is a somewhat anomaly called Apollos. Apollos also known as medic ,doctors, or healer are very important because of their latent ability to cast their own mana onto others to heal wounds. These anomalies have similar mana bodies to conjures but instead of using spells to make barriers or shoot projectiles Apollos would emit healing to others. Apollos are split up into three categories. First is 'Epione' these mages sooth mental and physical pain not erasing the wound but damping it in a sense. Second is 'Aceso' Apollos of this category are able to heal wounds almost like they erase the wound as whole, and they are able to cure some illnesses. Finally the 'Aegle' the buffs as we like to call them. These mages don't heal wounds or soothe pain but boost your physical state as a whole. If you could only lift 50 pound Aegle could give you a boost of strength to left 100 pounds as a 2x strength boost."
So what this book is saying I'm basically guaranteed to be able to use mana.
Basics of Conjuring
"While I went over the main power of conjures 'spell casting' I have not gone over the process of making the spells. As I mentioned, conjurers use the mana heart and mana veins to make spells but to start this process the first have to absorb the surrounding mana then take it in through their mana veins all the way to their mana heart. After the transfer the heart purifies the natural mana then you focus that mana in a wanted area then shoot by chanting the spell. The spell regulates the shape, size and quantity of the spell. The higher ranking the spell is, the more time is going to take. After going through this process conjures will eventually cross the road of their elemental affinity(Air,Earth,Fire,Water). When you find out your affinity you'll be able to focus on the elements and rank up on the amount of spells you can do. But that does not mean you Are restricted to one element with proper training you could eventually use all of the elements.
Basics of Augmenting
"Like I mentioned, augmenters don't need to spend much time on outside mana. In order to be a skilled augmenter you have to be very fast and accurate with your mana usage as I also mentioned you don't have infinite mana in your body the mana in the world is much more abundant. Augmenting will always require a constant amount of distribution into your many body parts. Feet, hand, thighs, legs, arms, lungs, and brain all of these need to be thought of when augmenting. While some conjurers look at augmenter's as meat heads it takes much more mental fortitude than some people think."
Recoil
"All users of magic know Heard or experienced something called recoil. Recoil occurred when Adventures had a low amount of mana in their mana body. This caused them to feel an extreme amount of pain. Like nausea, headaches and vomiting. If the recoil is bad enough it can leave permanent damage to your mana body. Conjures experience recoil when they bite off too much and then they could chew by using an Advanced spell or, when they didn't purify the mana well enough and the spell gets encrypted."
Whew what a load of information. I shut the book then slowly went back to resting on my stomach. I tried to digest all the information that was handed to me but it was hard.
There were so much but so little similarities to my old world and ESO. While it seemed that mana seemed more welcoming I was surprised at the fact that it was so rare to even sense mana presence when it was all around you even in the air you breathed. My world though it did not seem that way at first had a much easier system. Kids at the age of five were really able to channel their inner energy to improve their ESO while it was rare for a child to awaken at 10. All that was needed is the little amount of energy to touch the ESO to control it.
Maybe if I…. Well no time like the present to test the theory. I shut my eyes and did short controlled breaths. I had practiced these sorts of meditations for most of my life. I was an expert. Could I truly sense mana by using the meditation technique of ESO with this infant body I was on six months old. Though this was a far-fetched plan, I had to try. Wait I can feel it it's working it's working.
"Hara there you are, I thought you ran away." A familiar warm, kind voice said behind me which snapped me out of my concentration as well as taking the feeling of mana away.
Ugh I was feeling the phenomenon that was mana you took it away from Mother. I'm making my first steps in becoming a mage and you're snatching it away. Suddenly my head felt like it was being mangled and began to cry.
"OK let's head back to your crib, it's night night time." What was that?
