Chapter 5- I'm So Proud
Gavin POV
I'm so proud!
I was so blessed, grateful, happy, and excited when we had our two baby boys. They are so smart and advanced for their age, especially Hara. I can't wait to teach him my cool moves and magic. I wonder the specific age to train. I started at 6 I think, and Olaf started at five so I think it's ok to train Hara when he's three, right? I hope when they awaken they'll be like daddy an augmenter. If one of them are conjurers there's not much I can do there. I can only use beginner conjuring techniques. And I only use them to have variety. I guess I could ask one of the town's people.
Or Frey while she's not a conjurer by definition. Apollos' techniques are similar. Like transferring mana outwards to heal people. Like when our group was in a pickle Frey used the spell 'Watchful eye of Brigid'. This spell created a dome around us. Inside the dome all of the group members were healed in mere moments. This was around when she first joined. The group was skeptical of her skill, but when she pulled that spell out the group never questioned her again. Sheesh, it's those crazy mana reserves. I don't know where she gets it from. Bremndal is strong but I've never seen him use magic to that degree. Maybe her mother?
She doesn't talk about her often but she had to be amazing at magic to create Frey. Man, I'm so lucky. Back then we never had to worry about injuries or fatigue because Frey was there.
Man I really hope they are augmenters. I want the conjures to be out numbered so they can stop looking down on us. We are not meatheads that would rather fight and get dirty than stay a safe distance and still do the same amount of damage if not more. What do they know anyway it's obvious augmenters are superior who wouldn't want to coat their hand in mana and punch the living shit out of somebody.
Anyway at least I'll know right away which type of mage Olaf and Hara are. It's pretty clear to see which type they are when they awaken. Because when they first awaken conjurers will create a wide dome around themselves which can sometimes tear down a house. Apollos are similar as well; they create a dome around themselves but the difference is that there's not as much destructive power. Augmenters on the other hand have a more contained magic barrier around themselves when first awakening. The biggest barrier formed when awakening from an augmenter is about the size of a room.
The amount of time these barriers and domes last for is entirely dependent on the person. For some people it lasts for minutes, for others it lasts for seconds and on rare occasions it can last for hours. This does not mean that those who held the dome or barrier for hours are stronger, it just means that they were outputting a lot of mana when first awakening.
I think when I awakened at the age of 11 I was in the Barrier for about 2 minutes. I levitated the entire entire time I felt like a superhero.
But that doesn't matter. I can't wait to train those two boys. I can tell they are going to be strong. So I better hurry home.
"Six apples please." I said walking up to the storesmen. "Ok that will cost six bronze coins." He said picking six apples and placing them in a bag. "Here you go." I said handing them to him. "So how have you been Gavin?" The man asked, handing me the bag.
"You know the same old same old." I answered with a shrug while taking the bag. "So how are the kids and wife?" He continued sitting down on his wooden chair. "They're good Olaf has made great progress in swordsmen ship and Hara is still growing and is healthy." I answered plainly. "I know you don't like shopping but show some emotion." The man stated. "I'm sorry I've been shopping for an hour. It's just so boring and I'm drained." I expressed my dislike of shopping with my slouched shoulders and my sore fingers. "I mean I have had to hold these many bags for an hour just to find a specific store to get a specific item that I could've gotten at another store. Also my pockets are almost empty. I've used basically all my cash in just one day. I just don't get women sometimes." I whined.
"I get you, my wife is exactly the same." The man voiced that he understood my situation. "It's probably not as bad as you though. I produce my own fruits and veggies so my family eats those but when it comes to meat I have to travel all through town to find some special fish. It's annoying but I can manage. I can only imagine your pain though. You have to travel everywhere for fruits, veggies and meat."
"It's a tough life we men have to live." The man uttered, looking off in the distance. "Well I better get going, Frey said that I have to be home by 2:00pm sharp." I explained walking off. "Ok see ya later." The man responded. "See ya." I echoed. "Wait Gavin isn't that your house on the hill?" The man asked. "What are you talking about?" I questioned looking up to see our house. "What the hell happened. Call the mayor now. I'll go to see what happened." I ordered. "Ok, meet you there." The man agreed. Standing up running to the office.
How could this happen? The left side of the house is completely gone. I'm surprised it's still standing. Frey, Olaf, Hara please be ok I'm begging. I ran as fast as I could. I even enhanced my legs. What could cause such damage? Maybe an attack? No Frey would have sensed it.
I had finally made it up the hill. I saw wood and debris everywhere. Where are you, where are you guys? I searched. "Frey!!! Olaf!!! Hara!!! Where are you?!!!" I shouted. Please be okay.
I lifted all of the debris and searched for five minutes. Where are they? "Gavin!" I heard a dull voice say. "Frey, is that you?! I'm coming! Talk again so I can figure out where you are." Where are you? "Gavin, we're here." I heard a voice say. It was coming from the left of me. I rushed to the pile of debris and started digging. Digging like my life depended on it.
"Hah." I sigh. "I finally found you. Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" I asked. Frey was covering Olaf. Piles of debris were on them. The only reason they survived was Freys healing. "HARALD!!!?? Did you find him!??" Frey asked with desperation. "He's in there he was napping!! He's defenseless!!?" Frey cried out. All blood dissipated off of Frey's face and she was completely pale. Her eyes filled with concern, sadness, and desperation.
I immediately ran towards the house. I entered where the explosion came from. "Frey is everything alright." I heard Bremndal say behind me he came from the office he sounded drained. Probably from running.
Entering the house I covered myself with mana skin in case I got burned or stabbed. As I moved deeper in the house the more I was bombarded with debris. I assumed I was getting closer to the source of the explosion. After pushing through the broken house I had gazed upon it.
My baby boy was floating in the air and was surrounded by a colorless condensed dome. Hara was the cause of all of this chaos and destruction.
"What the hell?"
I couldn't understand. Out of pure confusion my legs stopped working and I fell down resting my back on one of the debris. My boy was only a few days from turning three but has already awakened. He is only a child… he awakened 9 years before me.
How could this happen, why did it happen. My emotions were uncontrollable right now. I didn't know if I should laugh out of Gavinly pride or cry because of the amount of money I'm going to spend to rebuild this house.
"Gavin, where are you? Frey is waiting outside. Have you found Hara." I looked back to see Bremndal coming through all the debris.
Bremndal just shrugged all of the wood and brick off like they were feathers. "Gavin what happened. Did you hear me? Did you find Harald?" Bremndal asked.
"Look there." I simply pointed. Then went back to marveling and contemplating.
Turning his gaze all he could utter was "What the."
Part 2
Harald POV
Man that felt good. Stretching the back always feels special when you accomplish something. Ok let's check progress. Closing my eyes I sensed the newly formed mana heart and brain. Oh yeah I'm the greatest. Welcome mana heart and brain. I finally have one of my own.
"Harald, what happened, are you okay?" I heard a deep voice say from the right of me.
Opening my eyes I saw a familiar face. Long time no see gramps. He rushed towards me and hugged me tightly. Behind him was my flabbergasted Dad who was laying down on a stone.
Why does he look so shocked and why is gramps here? "Arghh!" I squealed out gramps was hugging me a little too hard. It felt like I was going to pop. "Gramps why sad." I managed to say. I was confused why does he look so concerned.
He didn't answer and proceeded to squeeze me harder. My Dad finally got up and walked up to me and gramps. He patted gramps back and was handed me. Holding me Dad gave me a dim smile. Why does everyone look so dull? Finally looking around I saw that the library was destroyed and all that was left was debris. Now how the hell did this happen?
Did someone attack? No, that doesn't make sense. Why would they attack then leave me? But I am only a child so they might have left me to die. And Olaf, and mother aren't here. Are they dead, kidnapped? Now who dares attack the Flyrow family. I shall make whoever did this pay. They will never have a restful night until I catch them.
"Congrats little dude you awakened." Gavin said, sticking his hand up for a fist bump.
Me, I did this. I blew a hole through the side of the house. I'm the villain? How could this happen? Even on earth when youngsters would awaken they wouldn't cause this amount of damage. The average amount of force would be able to push a desk down. How could I blow a house up just from awakening. Am I going to pay for this. I don't have any Money plus I'm a child so it's not like I can make any. I can only apologize.
"I'm sorry dad, gramps. Did I do something wrong?"
"No you didn't, I just thought something happened to you. I'm glad you're still kicking." Gramps explained from the side of me.
The doofus that I called my Dad on the other hand was staring in the distance. "Conjurer, augmenter genius, fast, child, adventurer, why Conjurer though?" He muttered and repeated all the way until we got outside.
"Hara!! Harald!!" Olaf and mother said, rushing toward us. "Are you okay, are you hurt? Do you need me to heal you? I'll heal you." Mother stammered snatching me from Dad.
"I'm ok, don't worry." I managed to say. "How can you say that? You were stuck in a destroyed building for minutes." Mother said. "Frey I know it's hard to believe but Hara is the cause of the explosion." Gavin explained. "W..what… Now is not the time for jokes. Your son was trapped in a burning house with thousands of debris crowding the area, and your telling me he caused that. You need to learn when the situation is serious." Frey reprimanded.
"I'm serious Frey, you can ask Bremndal. He saw it." Gavin said pointing to gramps. "He's telling the truth, Frey. I saw it with my own eyes. Harald was surrounded by a translucent dome of energy." Gramps confirmed. "Did you feel weird Harald, or did you see yourself floating?" Mother asked, looking down at me.
"Yes." I answered. "That's great honey. You are an awakened one." My mother said,
"What the hell happened here. Are you guys alright?" A man asked behind us. "We're ok thank you. Also Troy we're going to need some materials." Gavin said, pointing to the broken house.
Breathing in and out my gramps shouted "All citizens it's time to get to work. Bring all Materials we need to build the best house. We need it to be built in two months!!!!"
Well he's still the same.
Part 3
A month has passed since my awakening. The only people that knew of my awakening were my family and the man that came to check up on us. Gramps managed to rally up many of the townspeople so we could rebuild our house. We're making great progress and the time rebuilding we've stayed at gramps house. It was good staying there because it gave a chance for mother and gramps to rebuild their relationship.
During the process of rebuilding my birthday passed (October 10). I was greeted with presents from gramps and Olaf. And some weird native pastry.
"This is from me." Olaf said grinning. Opening the present I saw a wooden spear, dagger, sword, and bow. "Thank you." I said hugging Olaf. While my reaction was exaggerated I was genuinely happy I haven't been able to use a sword in years. "How'd you get this Olaf?" Gavin asked. "Oh, some lady who was a wood carver said if she did this for me I would have to go on a date with her daughter." Olaf plainly answered. "Did you go on the date?" Gavin asked. Idiot. Olaf slowly nodded. "My son is already getting lady's good job." Gavin exclaimed with his fist out. Olaf fist bumped him in response.
"Now Now Gavin we shouldn't be supporting our son for this behavior. He should not be selling his time for random people. Got that?" Mother explained with a dangerous expression. "Yes mam." Gavin nodded. "Y…you shouldn't do that Olaf g…got that?" Gavin said turning to Olaf. "Yesir, never again." Olaf agreed.
"Ok back to you Harald it's your birthday." Gravin said trying to change the subject he didn't even use my nickname he was that scared.
"Ok time for our gift." Gavin announced. "Here it is." Gavin said, handing me a cubed box wrapped in green paper. Unwrapping the present I saw many books versed in magic. Let's go. I was hoping I got this. "Thank you mom and dad." I said hugging them both. "No problem kiddo it's the least I can do." Gavin said, patting my head. "Your fathers right you awakened at such a young age we should congratulate that with a least something's related to magic." Frey explained with a smile.
"Me and your father also have another gift in the works. It's just going to take a while to prepare so be patient." Gramps said.
"Ok, don't worry I can be patient." I wonder what the gift is going to be.
Part 4
Weeks have gone by and our house has been rebuilt thanks to the town's people. When the production was finished I made sure to thank all the people that contributed in the rebuilding because I was the cause. But ignoring that these people are much nicer than I expected. I haven't had much interactions with them but with the few that I've had I can tell they are decent people.
When we moved back in, my mother began teaching me basic literature. Like writing my name and saying more advanced words. She would also give me some run downs on some of her spells that were similar to conjurers. They were much too advanced for me to understand. After all, I only had basic knowledge of mana. I think I'll eventually get the hang of it though.
My father on the other hand has started teaching me hand to hand combat. And Olaf has tried to teach me a few things as well. But my father has also tried to teach me some mana manipulation. Which I already knew how to do. He also tried to teach me the basics of conjuring. He was not a good teacher. I knew he was an augmenter but he was so bad at conjuring. It was so bad that gramps had to help. I'm glad Frey forgave him because if she didn't I don't think I would've learned anything.
Gramps taught me that:
The way conjurers measure strength is by usage of ranked spells. Ranked spells ranked from 1 lowest to 10 highest. The difference in strength is enormous. While ranked 1 spells could only take down a small tree at most, ranked 10 spells could destroy mountains with ease. Another way to gauge the power of mages in general is the color of the mana heart or core. The color that mages start with is dark green. You can change the color by building on the heart when you build enough the color will soon to change to green then to neon green. The highest you can reach is violet.
All of the colors in order are green, red, orange, yellow, blue, indigo, then violet. These colors are also split by numbers 1-3. The higher the number the brighter the heart gets. The higher the stage gets the faster the heart can pump mana.
"Hey body, I have a surprise." Gavin said, walking up to me. "What is it?" I asked, looking up at him. "In a week you will have a magic teacher." Gavin answered. "Is she going to teach me conjuring?" I asked. "Yes siry." He answered.
"Yes thank you dad."
Part 5
"Okay guys I'm heading out, I have to head to black stone and get there in a week so I'll see you guys in a few months." A woman announced with long green hair and a white dress with a sword on her back and a book at her hip with a suitcase in the right hand.
"Bye see you later, have fun" Her call leagues said in response. About to walk out of the door to head to the carriage she was stopped by a burst of flames that turned into a relatively tall man with bright red hair and orange tips and burnt skin with black glasses that covered his eyes. "Hey Isabell where are you headed?" The man asked, leaning on the door.
"I gotta go to black stone to teach a newly awakened and I'm heading out now so I would appreciate it if you could step aside." "Oh in Black Stone you know I grew up there right?" "Yes and I don't really care." Isabell retorted. "Aw your hurting my feelings anyway I'm taking your geg so hand me the file." "No" "Yes" "No" "Yes" "You're not even a conjurer what are you doing teaching a newly awakened conjurer?"
"How do you know the job file? The paper was facing me." Isabell stated sticking her left hand which was holding the paper in her chest. "Look behind you." The man said, pointing behind her. Turning around she saw nothing. "What are you talking about? There is nothing there. Before she could turn around fast enough the man snatched the file and examined it. "Hey give that back." "Hmm, Harald Nero Flyrow!! Oh well I have to go now come on just give up you know I'm more qualified for this just let go. I'm sure a geg will come up where they're going to need you to teach a child to become a meat head and swing a sword around for hours." He stated.
"Why you little I'm going to beat your snarky, cocky, privileged, pansy ass up, come here you little shit." She declared dropping all of her things to try and grab the man. The man avoided all of her attempts until he slipped on the carpet and fell on his back. "I've got you now." The woman was about to bash him to death until. "Shut up!!!" An old man with a very long beard walked from a room and slowly walked down the right set of stairs. "Can you guys shut up, you know what since you guys want to educate so much why don't you go together." "What!!" They shouted in unison. "I can't work with this meat head," the man said. "I can't work with this pansy." Isabell exclaimed.
"Fine then none of you will Rod take this job." The old man called to one of the bystanders trying to mind their own business at their desk. "Fine! I'll work with the meathead." "Yeah what he said I'll work with the pansy." "Just so you know this doesn't mean we're friends just teaching partners" "Agreed" "Ok now that that's settled leave now." The old man said sternly.
"Ok." The man disappeared with a swirl of fire. "Show off, I'm heading to the carriage." The man later appeared back with a briefcase in the right hand, a big book on the left and a wand at the hip. "Bye grandmaster see you later everyone. Don't miss me too much." The man exclaimed, waving and kissing his co workers good bye. "Bye Surtpliem" everyone responded plainly in unison. "At least try to seem sad." "Just go!" The old man shouted back. "Ok ok," walking out and shutting the door behind him he left to teach. "What am I going to do with them?"
Walking in the carriage Isabell asked "How'd you see the file and Why'd you want to come anyway? I thought you hated teaching gegs." "This thing." He responded plainly pointing up. "There's nothing there." "I got you again you really are a meathead aren't ya." "I hate you." Isabell responded steaming. "Anyway I do hate these type of gegs but…" Surtpliem paused. "But I want to pay a visit to family."
